Rurouni Kenshin Fan Fiction ❯ Her Own Path ❯ Kidnapped Rose ( Chapter 7 )
[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
I really am sorry for the late update for this chapter. Last week I unexpectedly went to visit family for a while and had no Internet access. Then my Aunt’s lung collapsed and my Great Grandma had a funeral (though 98 is pretty old). So as you can see I haven’t had much time to worry about this fic (or any other for that matter). I just thought all the loyal readers out there should get to know the reason for my laziness.
Well, enough sympathy dishes, on with the story!
Disclaimer: I made a special trip to Edmonton to try, but to no avail. They just won’t sell me Rurouni Kenshin.
Warnings: I dunno… beware of blood?
HER OWN PATH
Chapter Seven- Kidnapped Rose
Kenshin said nothing on their entire journey back to the house, not a single word. After gazing that strange gaze at her necklace he went into a completely silent mode. He ignored Kaoru completely with no recognition whatsoever. She hoped that he wasn’t for some reason angry with her; it was not as if she had done anything to initially upset him.
He roughly shoved the key into the outside door and then proceeded inside forcefully by means of slamming it open. Tossing his black trench coat onto a nearby chair he entered into an unknown room, still with no word.
His presence however, did not go unnoticed by Kaoru. She had watched as he gracefully and yet savagely flung his coat down. And her somewhat dirty mind could not help but watch his muscles that protruded out of his tight undershirt as he carried this out. She previously had no idea that he was so muscular, and actually had to physically shake her head to get her mind out of the gutter.
Kaoru was then presented with the decision of what to do. She could either attempt to follow him into where he went, or wait for him to come out. The latter seemed more reasonable. At present, he looked as thought he desperately wanted to be left alone.
So Kaoru entered the room that she had slept in, and without even taking off her jacket, fell backwards onto the bed. Her small hands grasped the blanket, drawing it closer to her. She couldn’t help but marvel at how who she wanted most right now, she was not permitted to have.
BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB
Harsh light greeted her sleep-glazed eyes.
A voice floated from her in between state of dream and reality, “Kaoru-dono?”
She pulled the sheet over her face in hopes to make the harsh light disappear.
“Kaoru-dono, you’ve slept for nearly the entire day. We have to be leaving now.” It looked as though Kenshin was in a better mood.
“I’m getting up Kenshin,” Kaoru mumbled as she buried herself in the blankets, feigning sleep.
“This is going to be a long morning…”
BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB
K enshin had spent at least another half hour getting Kaoru up and out the door. By the time she fixed her hair, ate and actually got to the car it was nearly six. Kenshin still marvelled how she could take so long. She couldn’t even use the excuse that her hair took longer, because he had at least as much as she did. Maybe she wasn’t a morning person…
They had reached the meeting place without great difficulty on the way. Without Sanosuke in the car Kenshin had not gotten them lost once.
Kaoru was about to ask Kenshin about Shishio when a black sports car pulled up the road.
Sano and a tall man with dark hair stepped out, along with… Misao?
Kaoru’s eyes nearly fell out of their sockets. Why was Misao here?
“Sano, Aoshi, glad you’re here,” Kenshin greeted.
Sano nodded his hello, whereas Aoshi did not look so happy.
“Himura, have you any idea how difficult it was to find this location with this fool giving me directions?” He questioned in a calm voice.
As Sano naturally took offence Kenshin replied with a simple, “Why do you think I refused to pick him up?”
Kaoru walked the short distance to Misao and began tapping her foot, waiting for the girl to notice her standing there.
Misao’s head turned in her direction. “Kaoru-chan?! What are YOU doing here?” She bounced up and down for the excitement.
“That’s exactly what I was going to ask Misao,” Kaoru continued her pretending-to-be-angry look until she burst out laughing.
“I’m here with Aoshi-sama. I know I introduced you to him before.”
Now that Kaoru shot a better glance at him she recognized him as the one Misao worshipped to no end.
Short dark hair with long bangs and piercing, calculating blue eyes. Yep. That was definitely Aoshi.
Misao continued to explain, “You see Aoshi-sama has been the head of the The Oniwanbashu since the revolution. And I’m in it too! So when he was called on a mission I tagged along!” Her face turned to a look of question, “And why ARE you here Kaoru-chan?”
“I… came with Kenshin.”
“You mean THAT baka is the Kenshin that you’ve been going on about?! If I’d known that Himura was the one you meant I’d have told you where he was!”
BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB
Aoshi pulled a map from the inside of his coat and unfolded it, “We’ll split into two groups and rendezvous to point 617. How does that sound Himura?”
“Fine by me.”
Misao said her quick goodbyes to Kaoru and headed off with Aoshi. Their car sped down the highway.
“Guess this means I’m with you guys,” Sano blushed a bit about not having a vehicle of his own. Unfortunately his had been towed away to pay off for some gambling debts. And this was a fact that Kenshin was well aware of. Seeing as he was there as he watched Sano yelling and swearing as a tow truck sped off with his truck.
“Yeah, Sano. As long as you don’t give the directions we’ll be fine,” Kenshin answered as he got into the car and slammed the door shut.
A, “Hey! What does that mean?!” was muffled through the door.
BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB
The gravel continuously beating against the sides of the car gradually slowed to a quiet rumble. These country roads of ancient were a complete nuisance to drive on. It was however necessary to drive down this particular one to get to the rendezvous point.
And yet here was the car, pulling to a complete stop.
The first thought to run through Sano’s head was something near, ‘Great! All this way out into the middle of nowhere and the car just HAS to die on us!’ But he then realized that it was Kenshin that stopped it. A glance from his was stolen towards Kenshin. Kenshin’s nostrils were moving ever so slightly, as if he smelt something.
“Why’re we stopped?” He asked in a gruff tone.
Kenshin reached under the seat and pulled from underneath it a wakizashi, gripped tightly in his hand. “Stay here,” was whispered, and he was gone. Disappeared from all sight. The frightening thought was that they didn’t even see him get out of the car. How could someone move that fast?
BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB
Sanosuke nervously twiddled his thumbs in a rhythm to take his attention away from the awkward silence. Kaoru was sitting in the backseat staring out at the window, so she wasn’t helping matters any. He idly peeked at the digital clock that read 7:15. Kenshin was been gone nearly fifteen minutes and the anxiety was really getting to Sano.
Kaoru’s attention was snapped from the window to Sano as he opened his door.
“Wait here Jou-chan. I’m gonna see if maybe Kenshin hasn’t gotten lost or anything,” he said, trying to keep a calm manner, though he was anything but. In his mind he knew that Kenshin never got lost, that was strictly Sano’s job. But in that case, where was he?
She could do nothing but watch as Sanosuke disappeared into the thick bushes to her left, hopefully in the direction that Kenshin had gone.
Unbeknownst to Kaoru was the bright eyes scanning her from the dark shadows of the trees. Patiently waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike.
BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB
He felt the panic in his chest growing as to where Kenshin could be. As his brain kicked in his feet came to an abrupt halt.
Kenshin had looked as though he smelled something. Sano knew that his sense of smell was not nearly as keen as Kenshin’s, but surely he had some talent.
Perhaps if he tried what Kenshin had done he would get a lead as to where he had gone.
Calming all of his other senses and only focusing on smell took a few moments, but the result was worth it. A faint scent of roses had filled him as he stood there. Perhaps that was what Kenshin had smelt.
However his victory was short lived.
A gloating glance to the right revealed a bush filled with wild roses. Sano’s hand fully smacked his forehead as he muttered a faint, “Kuso.”
He continued on his previous path after recovering from the dent in his pride.
A hand reached out to pick one of the wild roses, and brought it up to take in its fragrance. The blood red rose in his opposite hand seemed less important than the one he had just picked. His lips curved into a sadistic smile, now was the perfect time.
BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB
As Sano madly dashed through the endless supply of bushes and trees he had to desperately fight from tripping. Roots and branches combined insantly meant trouble for him. He was thinking how damn hard it was to stay upright.
His thoughts stopped dead as an ear-piercing scream penetrated through the woods. It sounded of a combination of pain and horror. Birds screeched away from the shock of the noise.
Sano immediately picked up his pace and raced towards where the scream originated from.
Being that it was only a few yards away from where he originally was he found the source quickly.
What he saw nearly made his heart stop.
BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB
Kaoru nearly jumped out of the seat as she heard the diminished cry lash out through the forest. As she slowly calmed she realized with a start that the voice sounded like it belonged to Kenshin.
Out of sheer panic she flung open the car door and stepped out. Kaoru was aware that both Sano and Kenshin told her to stay put in the car. But the anxiety as to where they could be had been building up for the past few minutes. That scream was all she needed to snap.
She started to make her way to the other side of the car, but before she could she was grasped firmly on the forearm. Her head spun around to meet the eyes of her captor.
The hairs on the back of her neck perked up with interest of her fear. Koaru began to scream, though as she did her mouth was brutally covered.
Her captor pulled her closer despite her protesting body. “Now now Kaoru-chan, we can’t be having you do that,” he chided in her small ear.
He gently tucked a wild rose behind her ear and then firmly grasped her wrists. Stopping all of her movement.
The side of the car was right behind him, so a mere gesture of turning around gave him easy access. He slowly placed a blood red rose on the hood, knowing that the owner would find it and understand.
BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB
The blood pounded harshly in Sano’s ears, blocking out all other noises. His eyes remained fixed on the scene before him.
Kenshin. The man who was nine years his senior had become more than a friend to Sano over the years, he had turned into an older brother figure. His mind wandered in and out of conciousness.

‘Zanza, it is impossible for you to defeat me. You moves equipped with the Zanbatou are far too easy to predict.’

‘Actually Zanza the revolution is not over. It is true that the shape of the revolution has been completed. But many people still live in the old world where the weak are oppressed and peace and equality are still just and ideal… That is why I took up this reverse-blade sword, to protect those people.’

‘Sano, you’re getting drool on your arm. And no, I will not have a drink.’
…………………………̷ 0;…...............
‘Kenshin look at all the women here. Some of them are real beatu’s.’
‘Sano if you find them so attractive then why don’t you go and talk to them?’
‘No way. I’m looking for the perfect girl, and waiting until I find her!’
…………………………̷ 0;…..............
‘Kenshin, Megumi and I are getting married! Isn’t that great?!’
‘That’s wonderful news Sano. However, how exactly are you planning to come up with the finances to cover it?’
‘Actually Kenshin, now that you mention it… That was the reason I called you in the first place!’
‘Sano…’
…………………………̷ 0;…..............
‘Kenshin, are you there? It’s Megumi… She’s dead! I came home and found her, and I know the bastard that did it!’
‘I’m sorry Sano…’
‘Kenshin, I’m asking you to help me find him. Makoto Shishio.’
‘Sano, I was thinking of searching for the him myself after I found Tomoe…’
…………………………̷ 0;…...............
Sano stood baffled at how this could happen. Kenshin was the best swordsman he had ever seen. And more yet, he had never seen more than a cut on Kenshin. This was horrible…
Kenshin was savagely pinned a few feet off of the ground to a tree. A Chinese sword was brutally stabbed straight through his right shoulder. Blood was covering his front side and dripping off of his jacket. Staining the grass red.
Sano slowly looked up to Kenshin’s face. His pupils were dilated, with no look of recognition. Blood was spattered on his face, and fresh track that looked to be from tears were present.
As another tear formed Sano heard him whisper the words, “T-Tomoe, why are you with him?”
It was like that simple task drained the rest of his energy. His knees buckled underneath him and his body sagged down.
Sano’s face turned to a look of utter horror. The image of Kenshin covered in blood faded away into Captain Sagara being shot.
In desperation he ran out to him as he watched his head droop.
“KENSHIN!”
BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB
“Now now Battousai, do not fret. You are merely getting everything you deserve. You took what was most precious to me and destroyed it. I felt obliged to return the favor to you in full force. Now you shall suffer as I have suffered.”
The man laughed as he carried the unconscious Kaoru off into the shadows.
AC: I’m sure it’s pretty easy to figure out who the ‘mystery man’ is; I gave quite a few clues. And yes, to those of you who realized, Sano did infact smell the red rose that the man was carrying, not the wild ones next to him. That was the only reason I added that part. Just for that sheer irony of having the enemy right beside him. Kenshin did take off when he smelt the roses (obviously he remembers them). Roses do play an important role in this story, symbolically mostly.
I hope to actually update this in a wekk (instead of 2). I really am sorry for the blasted delay!
