Chapter 1

Battousai & Mia the Assassins

In the revolution there was one man every one feared Battousai the man-slayer or Hitokiri Battousai, a shadow assassin for the imperialist army of Japan. Belonging to the Chosu Clan. Staying in the shadows of the war only his victims saw him, until a spy interned the Chosu clan and compounded his cover as a shadow assassin. So he came out into the open as an assassin and the Imperialists chose another Shadow assassin to take his place.

"Kenshin." He heard some one yell. He placed his hand on his sword and turned around.

"Oh it's only you." Kenshin said and relaxed a little.

"How does it feel to be out in the open now?" the guy asked.

"Pretty good Autosi. But still I'm in more danger since every one want's me dead." Kenshin said.

"Yeah well you can handle that Kenshin you've done it before." Autosi said and slapped Kenshin in the back. "Let's go get a drink." He suggested.

"I'd rather not Autosi so I'll talk to you later." Kenshin said and walked away from him.

"Fine be that way." Autosi said as he started off to a bar happily.

<Fool you can't use a sword if you're always' drunk.> Kenshin thought as he walked in to an inn.

"Sir. The leader of the Chosu would like to see you." The innkeeper said bowing respectfully then retreating.

<Ahhh…now what another assignment no doubt.> Kenshin thought as he walked out into the garden of the inn.

"Sir you wanted to see me." Kenshin said in an almost impolite way.

"Yes Kenshin some members of the Mebu clan are starting to get in our way. Can you take care of it?" he asked Kenshin.

"Of course I can take care of it. When and who?" Kenshin asked.

"As soon as possible and it's Koma Hitora, Assassin of Mebu." The leader said.

"Done." Kenshin said coldly as he walked out of the inn and down the street.

<Koma Hitora head assassin of the Mebu clan this won't be easy but it won't take long either. He uses the Kanama style.> Kenshin thought as he headed towards the Mebu Clan's hide out.

"Kenshin what are you doing?" a young man yelled running after Kenshin.

"Shami you know I can't talk about that. Now go back to the inn." Kenshin said coldly as he continued to walk.

<He must be on an assignment.> Shami thought as he headed back to the inn as Kenshin had said.

About An Hour Later!

"Koma Hitora of the Mebu come out!" Kenshin yelled.

"The Battousai is here!" a guard yelled drawing his sword.

"Intelligent deduction now do something else intelligent run." Kenshin said placing his hand on his sword.

"You're only here for me aren't you Battousai." Koma said walking out of a building.

"Correct Koma Hitora!" Kenshin said.

"Fine you'll have me." Koma said drawing his sword.

"Good." Kenshin said getting on guard immediately drawing his sword. Their swords only hit each other twice before it was over and Kenshin stood alone in the middle of the Mebu Clan.

"Kill him." a samurai yelled.

"My only target is dead don't make me kill more of your precious clan." Kenshin said and started to walk away.

"Kill the Battousai." a guard and friend of Koma's yelled.

"No! Leave him be. An intelligent warrior also knows when to quit. When his opponent is too great." The leader of the Mebu said angrily as he watched Kenshin leave.

<Damn the Chosu clan!> the leader of Mebu thought as he glared daggers at Kenshin as he left.

Back At The Chosu Clan!

"It is done now if you have nothing else I'll be going to my room sir." Kenshin said and turned to leave with out giving his boss the chance to answer him.

"Oh Kenshin good work." The leader said and Kenshin only nodded then left the room. He walked up the stairs to his room and walked over to the window opening it then sitting down. He held his sword in his lap as he watched the last raise of sun light fade and give in to the beautiful moon and stars.

<Kyoto isn't bad once you forget all the blood shed. It's quite beautiful actually.> Kenshin thought as he watched the people slowly return home for the night then he reluctantly fell into an uneasy sleep.

The Next Morning!

<He must be cold. Course I understand why he sits there like that.> a woman thought. She had long black hair tied up and crystal blue eyes. She wore a dark blue kimono with reddish sakura petals on her left shoulder. She brought a blanket into the room and wrapped it around Kenshin.

"What the…" Kenshin said drawing his sword on the woman.

"Battousai chill out." The woman said.

"Sorry Mia." Kenshin said.

"Yeah. Thanks for removing the sword from my neck." Mia said.

"Sorry…" Kenshin said again.

"Don't worry about it. I understand your uneasiness. I'm in the same boat as you." Mia said and smiled at him.

"You're boat is a little different then mine." Kenshin said.

"Well the great Battousai can be perverted can't he." Mia said.

"uhm…that's not what I ment and you know it…" Kenshin said

"Yeah I know. The only difference is my cover hasn't been blown where yours has. Only three in the our in tire clan knows of me." Mia said.

"Where's your sword?" Kenshin asked.

"In here. I keep it in your room cause people would wonder why I had a sword in mine. Hope you don't mind." Mia said smiled.

"No I don't mind." Kenshin said and started for the door.

"Where are you going?" Mia asked.

"Breakfast." Kenshin said.

"I'll go with you I have to help serve it anyway." Mia said and followed after Kenshin.

"Oh-whoa. Look what Kenshin got last night." One of the guys said.

"Men…is that all you guys think about sir?" Mia asked to keep her cover as help at the inn.

"Not all of us are like that." Kenshin said kind of insulted by her.

"Yes sir sorry." Mia said watching the floor as she walked behind him.

"Most are so don't be sorry." Kenshin said and walked into the dinning room. And Mia followed him in then started for the kitchen.

"Whoa how'd you get her Kenshin. No one else can get anywhere with that one." A guy said.

"Back off. She's not a slut." Kenshin said in a dangerous tone.

"Oh come on you can tell us. How was she?" another guy asked and Kenshin glared at him.

"I didn't sleep with her now keep you damn nose out of my personal life." Kenshin said and started for the door grabbing his sword to make his point.

"*gulp*…he's too up tight…" the guy said whipping the sweat from he forehead.

"I'd suggest every one leave Kenshin alone for a while." Autosi said staring after him. "And that woman." He added.

"Aw…but…" most of the guys said and got a very stern look from the leader of the clan.

"I agree with Autosi. Leave that young woman alone along with Kenshin Himura." He said.

"Yes sir." Every one said except the women giving the food.

"You didn't have to do that sir. I'm well capable of handling them myself." Mia whispered as she gave their leader his breakfast.

"I'm well aware of that Miss. Go find Kenshin and bring him back." The leader said.

"Yes sir." Mia said bowing slightly before taking her tray back to the kitchen and leaving to go find Kenshin. The rest of the clan gave a questioning look to their leader.

"What? She was telling me about none of you being out there with him." he said and proceeded to eat his food.

Out In The Streets.

"Oh where'd he go?" Mia asked herself. Then saw the third squad of the shinsengume coming towards her.

<Oh no Trouble.> she thought and turned and ran the way she had just came.

"Where is Kenshin?" the leader asked when she entered the dinning area out of breath. She took one last look out side then slid the door shut. She ran over to the leader and kneeled down.

"Sir the third squad of the shinsengume is here and so is the their leader." Mia said to him very worried.

"You must find Kenshin quickly. I'll keep the rest here. Get Kenshin here immediately." He said.

"Yes sir." Mia said bowing slightly then stood up and ran to the door. She opened it slowly and looked out. "Sir their here." she said shutting the door again.

"What?!" he said stunned as he got up and walked to the door.

"You might want to get your sword Mia." He whispered in her ear. "Go out the back you must find Kenshin." He said urgently.

"Yes Sir." She said bowing slightly and ran up to Kenshin's room and grabbed her sword and changed into her pants and shirt then put her sword on her side. She ran back down stairs and out the back door.

Several Minutes Later!

"Kenshin!!" Mia yelled.

"What?" Kenshin asked then turned around to see her in her assassin outfit instead of her Kimono. "What's going on?"

"Kenshin the shinsengume are at the inn with the rest you and I are the only ones out side. I'd say they're fighting by now. They want you there immediately." Mia said grabbing his hand and running back to the inn.

"Whoa…wait…hold on." Kenshin said and made her stop. "You'll be in danger." He said.

"Kenshin I'm in danger every time I'm on a mission. So lets just do this I'm to bring you back." Mia said and grabbed his hand again and started pulling him again.

"I can run of my own. At least let me do that." Kenshin said.

"OK!" Mia said releasing his hand.

"Thank you. Now I got to make sure it's still attached." Kenshin said sarcastically as she rubbed his shoulder.

"Sorry…" Mia said and blushed a little.

"Every one get home! There must be a battle about to happen look at those two." A civilian yelled as he pointed to Mia and Kenshin.

"Lets get out of the streets…" every one said and started running home quickly.

"Well at least they won't be in the way and get hurt." Mia said.

"That's a good thing and a bad thing." Kenshin said.

"What do you mean?" Mia asked.

"Well the Shinsengume know we're coming now." Kenshin said seeing the inn come into view and the fight-taking place in and around it.
