Chapter 2: The Captains of the Guard
"You idiot, the police station is that way!!! You've led us in a totally different direction!!" Yelled Souzou Sagara at his younger brother, Sanosuke.
Sano sighed loudly. He and Souzou were reporting to their new post in the Tokyo police force. They had both been promoted to captain, and the only ones superior to them were Saitoh and Hiko themselves.
They had been wandereing around Tokyo for an hour, trying to fing the police staion. So far they had not been sucsessful. It was rather funny really, because the police station was not hard to find, considering it's size.
"Sorry, its just so confusing. This is a big place." said Sano, whining.
"Well we had better hurry up, or we'll be late for our meeting with Saitoh. And from what I've heard, he's not a man to be messed with." said Souzou seriously.
Sano shuddered. He too had heard the rumors about Hajime Saitoh. He indeed was not a man to mess with.
The two men encouraged their horses to go faster. Finally after a few more minutes of getting lost, they maneged to find the station.
"Gosh," said Souzou grumbling, " You leave a place for a couple of decades and they change everything."
At the entrance to the station, they spotted a few peasants dancing in the street for money. Both Sano and Souzou dropped some money into the bucket.
The peasant girl, who was small and skinny with a long black raven ponytail, and blue eyes, smiled back up at the two. Then just as she was about to get up to go, a guard confronted her.
"Where did you get that money girl?" he asked, staring accusingly at the girl, whose name was Kaoru, and her little brother Yahiko.
"I earned it, thank you very much." said Kaoru.
Souzou noticed the trouble, and 'accidentally' backed his horse up to the guard, knocking him over. The guard gave him a menacing look, but turned his attention away from Kaoru, giving her the chance to escape.
"Sorry about that, this horse is quite unmanegeable. He just likes to randomly knock people over if he dosen't like them, and he dosen't seem to like you." said Souzou, trying to keep from laughing, while Sano was cracking up.
"How dare you!!" the guard started to say, until he noticed the badges on both Sano's and Souzou's chests. "Oh Captains, excuse my rudeness, I didn't realize."
"We have an appointment with Chief Saitoh," said Souzou grinning, "Is this the police station?"
"Yes it is. I'll take you right to him." babbled the guard.
"Well," said Sano, "Guess they'll do whatever they tell us. But I'm still not to sure about this Souzou. Saitoh sounds kinda creepy."
"Well we were promoted to this posistion, so they must think that we are able for the job. He can't be that bad." said Souzou.
But the two new captains of the guard were about to find out just how bad he actually was in a very short time.

The large door of the police station clanged close behind Sano and Souzou, with an erie sort of finality. The guard led them to Saitoh's office and they sat in total silence(which is saying something for Sano) while they waited for him.
Finally after about five minutes, a hard faced, amber eyed, black haired man entered the room. Sano and Souzou stood to greet him.
"Greetings captains Sanosuke and Souzou Sagara of the special forces of the police. You found the station easily enough I trust? It's location has been changed since you were here last." said Saitoh, the usual scowl on his face.
Sano and Souzou looked at each other. Sano started to open his mouth, but Souzou interrupted.
"Oh yes we found it, no problems" said Souzou, stepping on Sano's foot to keep him from protesting.
"Good." said Saitoh, "Well I hope the two of you know that I expect the best from war heroes of your caliber. Nothing less."
"Yes sir, we understand that perfectly." said the two of them, eyeing Saitoh warily.
"Very well. Now the problem I need your help with the most is that of the rebellious peasants in this city. They are causing far to much trouble in the streets." said Saitoh, as he lit a ciggarette.
"You mean we were summonned from the wars to deal with a bunch of peasants?" asked Sano.
"They are not simply peasants. They are trying to overturn the Japanese government. They claim they are being treated unfairly." Saitoh stated with a hard look on his face.
"Well they are." coughed Souzou.
"What was that Sagara?" asked Saitoh.
"Nothing." said Souzou, pretending to clear his throat, "Just a cold."
Sano gave him a strange look.
"Alright then," said Saitoh, "I would like the two of you to accompany me to the feast of fools, to see exactly what it is I am talking about."
Saitoh got up, and the two followed him. Perhaps the man was as bad as the rumors had said.
