Poetry Of Love

Whites are of an eye,

Green is a fungus,

Guess whose crush on you is humongous,

It is I.

"Aw! Dammit! She'll never like this!" Growled Sanosuke as he threw the paper he wrote his poem on in the already full trashcan. He was running out of ideas, fast.

"Maybe Kenshin could help me. Nah, what would an ex-Hitokiri know about poetry anyways?"

Sanosuke stuck a pencil in his messy hair and started pacing. Back and forth he went until dawn of the next day. And the next day came. Well in actuality it was only about ten to fifteen minutes but to Sanosuke it felt that long. And... still no poetry had sprouted from his mouth.

Sanosuke collapsed, "ugh!" 'Why can't I think of anything?' He thought furiously, too hungry to actually voice his concerns. He pulled all of his strength together and left his house in search of food. Or anything, maybe he'll get lucky and find a big, juicy, fat frog that'll give him a book of poetry before he eats it. Maybe. When he pays his tab at the Akebeko.

"Man! What am I to do?" Sanosuke thought out loud as he kicked a rock from his path. He was wandering aimlessly around the outskirts of town. "I'm hungry and I don't have anything to give Megumi! What'll I do?"

By now he had arrived at a little pond that looked strangely familiar somehow. Maybe it was just his hunger playing tricks on his mind. As he walked closer he saw a person that had been hidden from his sight by the sakura tree. It, she, had her back to him. Her hair and clothing looked familiar. Her hair looked like one's hair that he had laid in, the clothing looked like some that he had ripped off in lust. 'The clothing looks like... a doctors uniform...' Then he remembered.

But it was too late to turn back now. She, Megumi, had heard his arrival through the bushes and turned around. "So you remembered did you? I thought I would be waiting here out in the cold like last time."

"And the time before that," he added. He looked into her old, weary face that was so much like his. Time and many trials had taken their toll on the semi-youthful couple. "Don't you think that after thirty-five years of marriage I would be able to remember our anniversary? I didn't even need our youngest naggings to remind me this year." HE told her with a laugh and a merry twinkle that wrinkled his lined face even more.

"Are you going to sit or are you still shy after all this time?" Megumi retorted with false anger.

"I'm coming! This place is still as beautiful as ever. I remember that our first kiss was hear!" Exclaimed Sanosuke. He leaned over to Megumi and kissed her delicately on her still youthful lips. "Still the same?"

"No you old blathering fool! It's way different!" Megumi teased lovingly. "It has gotten more enjoyable and more needed over the years."

Then all was silent as they relived all of their precious moments together. They sat there, watching the full moon's reflection in the water that also reflected to them their ever-lasting love for one another.

"I had a poem that I was going to recite, koishii," Sanosuke told hear.

"Yeah? Let's hear it."

"Nah, it would ruin the moment that we have going on here," he replied with a smile.

"Oh really! Now what moment are you speaking of?" Megumi teased nestling her head in her husband's warm embrace.
