Saitou peered around the tree he was backed up against. His saffron eyes were fixed upon the silently meditating beau in the clearing several yards away. The man looked so serene, so peaceful...so very languished. "Hmm..." Saitou sighed and scowled in a pensive, almost worried manner. What can he possibly be thinking of...?
Saitou had been clandestinely attracted to Aoshi since the whole Shishio fiasco. There was something about Aoshi's mysterious, frozen disposition that struck a cord with Saitou somehow. It sparked an odd sense of curiousity in him; a curiousity that motivated---no, forced---him to learn more about the other man.
But no matter how much he satred at, contemplated over, or stalked him; Saitou was never fully satisfied. It was like being famished without a single scrap of bread. He wanted more...So much more...He wanted to read behind Aoshi's stone-like facade. Whatever Saitou wanted, he got. One way, or another.
He took a long drag on his cigarette before dropping it into the dust and grinding it with a leather boot. He walked briskly to where Aoshi was sitting. Saitou came up direcly behind him and put a gloved hand on one of his shoulders. Aoshi's azure eyes snapped open in shock. Up until this moment, he'd thought he was completely secluded.
"Shinomori."
Aoshi slowly turned to see Saitou Hajime towering above him, gold eyes studying him with unfathomable intensity.
"What the hell do you want with me?" Aoshi growled.
"Temper, temper.I merely wanted to know if you'd care to join me for a man-to-man talk."
"Fine."
Aoshi rose to his feet and faced him.
"It's not healthy for a man to shield himself from the rest of the world," Saitou said.
"My health is no business of yours."
"It matters not whose business it is. You really ought to get out of that little box of yours and be more active."
"What are you trying to say?" Aoshi was becoming rather agitated with this whole discussion.
"All I'm saying is that it might be beneficial to you if you'd learn to interact with normal human beings."
"You don't fool me, Saitou. I know your ways. You'll play it coy for awhile, then you'll stab me in the back."
"You don't know half of me," Saitou smirked. "Besides, I don't stab everyone's back..."
"How can I be sure you won't stab mine?"
"Trust is something you must build on your own."
Saitou placed his hands on Aoshi's shoulders and drew him into a soft kiss. Aoshi showned not the slightest sign of discomfort as his lips met the wolf's. After what seemed like an eternity, they finally broke the kiss. Aoshi blinked; and Saitou wiped his moist mouth on his sleeve.
"Do you still distrust me, Shinomori?"
Aoshi did not answer. He could only gaze at the man in front of him. That kiss had sent the strangest sensations rippling throughout his body; something he'd never experienced before, something he didn't necessarily detest.
Saitou grinned. "I think the look on your face speaks for itself."
Unbeknownst to Aoshi, his normally pale cheeks were flushed. For the first time in years, maybe his entire life, he was blushing.
"Now that we've gotten a bit more aquainted, why don't you come join me for supper tonight?" Saitou inquired.
"I suppose..."
"Aa. Excellent." Saitou took a small sheet of paper and a pen from his pocket and scribbled something down. When he finished, he handed the paper to Aoshi. "Here is the address. You should arrive by six o'clock. Don't be late."
Aoshi looked on as Saitou causually strolled away. Perhaps there really was more to Saitou than he realised...
