CHAPTER SIX

“Kaoru-san…” Misao whispered as she realized my pain…

He closed the door behind him and walked to the woman he was with. She was beautiful. Her raven hair was tied at the crook of her nape, leaving some strands at the side of her head, framing her delicate face. She was rather conservative. She wore a simple white blouse with a purple poncho and matching white skirt. She smiled as Kenshin wrapped his arms around her waist.

“How could he?”

I run to the door as soon as they cleared it. The busy street ambience wouldn't let me hear my own cries. How dare he? My feet grew exhausted with all the meters it ran. I ran through the park, my tears streaming through the sides of my face. I grabbed the nearest lamp post and rested my forehead against it as I sobbed a bit loudly.

“How could he…?”

“Miss, are you alright?” people asked as they walked through the park. I would just completely ignore them and continue sobbing. Some would even leave me money. AS IF I NEEDED THEIR SYMPATHY!! I breathed deeply, trying to relax myself, `Forget him, Kaoru! He's a playboy!' I run once again, to the opposite direction, headed for home.

(Misao - this is just the first time…)

She ran off before I could even call her. I did so anyway, God knows why; “KAORU-SAN!” the store was disturbed as every pair of eye turned to my direction, including Kenshin's. I saw him saw me and I just thought that this was the time to actually rub things in. I walked up to him, dropping all the items I had in hand.

“You little weasel!”

“Misao-dono! What a pleasure --”

“Pleasure to POUND you! Be a man and let's take this outside, buddy!” I stomped my way and pushed him with a single finger on his shoulder.

“I don't understand --”

“Oh you'll understand! After we deal with this! Outside! Now!” I said, picking a fight.

“Misao-dono, I would like to know what is happening. Please do not humiliate yourself in front of all these people.” he said sternly, concealing his face with red locks.
“Don't forget, your little luvie-duvie here!” I said as I rolled my eyes to the woman's direction, who was left quite stunned and confused.

“I'm sorry, I don't think I have anything to do with this.” She said, explaining herself.

“When did you meet this man?” I asked sternly, looking up to her (she's tall…)

“I'm sorry --”

“WHEN DID YOU MEET THIS MAN?” I said demandingly as I completely yelled in front of all these people.

“Misao-dono!” he spoke, “this is rather inappropriate! I demand that you --”

“Shut up, you worm! Nobody wants to know your demands!”

“Since last week! I got here from Kyoto to meet my second cousin which is, apparently, him! There! You happy?!” the woman yelled back as I averted my gaze from Kenshin's.

“Well, honey, I think you just solved another case. And I would've succeeded if it weren't for these meddling kids! What the heck am I talking about?! Himura! Kaoru-date-Friday-OFF!” I yelled as I walked out of the store and ran after Kaoru.

The things I do for friendship! It drives me crazy!

(Kaoru)

I rampaged through the elevators and groped the wooden frame of our door, “Come on, come on!” the metal feel slid through my fingers and fell to the ground, “Kuso!” I bent over and crawled, looking for the key. The silver item shimmered in the light, indicating its location. My fingers clumsily pick the item up and hurriedly slid it through the opening in the doorknob.

Click!

The door flung open and I rampaged right through, not minding to close the door. I yelled my lungs out for complete anger and trashed the apartment. I threw every furniture out of place and the tiny details on the side tables were completely disarranged. I ran to the room for the major mess-up.

“But YOU had to barge in!” I yelled as I grabbed the picture from the ceiling and tore it to a thousand pieces. As if that wasn't enough, I lit a fire in the fireplace and burnt the sketch to ashes.

I watched the flickers of fire slowly etching the paper around the sides, turning it to ashes. The piece with his eyes sketched in, slowly scorched within my view.

“…”

Heartbroken, I sob silently, losing all faith in meeting another man like Kenshin. I felt Misao's footsteps pad to the sofa with me.

“Kaoru-san…she wasn't what you thought she was…”

“…she's his second cousin…”

Oh great! All of this for something that wasn't! I sobbed even harder as I gestured Misao for a hug. The things I do for love…
