Rurouni Kenshin Fan Fiction ❯ That Voodoo That You Do ❯ Little Mischief, A Lot Of Pain ( Chapter 2 )
Chapter 2
Misao was not expecting any mail at all, and especially not a package she found just inside her door that Omasu had put there whilst tidying up. It arrived that morning and came with a letter. She sat cross-legged in her room, reading the paper as she clutched her somewhat deliberately disproportioned Saito doll. Even when finished, she went over the letter again, scanning it for missed information.
Greetings to you, Misao!
We've been having a lovely summer here so far in Tokyo, with sunshine and light wind all through the past fortnight. With the elements so appealing, I hope this small gift will reach you in good time. You see; I have rather taken to making Magic Dolls lately, thanks to a picture book I myself received as a present. I made all sorts of resemblance dolls, even one of Aoshi, but unfortunately, I've misplaced that one, or that would be the one in the box now.
Misao looked at her Saito doll, and then flicked it on the head in annoyance.
So I send you this Saito doll instead, in thanks for the ribbon you sent me on my birthday.
Many Thanks
Megumi
Misao thought back. She had sent that ribbon months ago. Well, it may have been a bit late, and the doll was a little disappointing, but surely it couldn't hurt to see if the stuffed fabric actually could do wondrous things. She decided that to do that, she would have to cause a little trouble. And, a little trouble was her forte.
From out of nowhere, Hajime Saito was hounded by a terrible headache. It caught him completely off, and he had to sit down, massaging his temples. Despite his unbelievably high pain threshold, this affliction seemed to resound inside his skull. After a while, he put it down to a stressful day, and walked out of the office without a word.
On his way home, always the same way to keep to routine, he walked down through the high street and he always had to pass two `landmarks' of sorts. The first was a little tucked away restaurant just of the main street and the second was the Aoiya. The restaurant could not be beaten for his favourite meal, and since Tokio was away visiting family, he decided to save himself the efforts of cooking. He went in, took his usual table, and awaited service.
After a pleasant serving of plain, super hot soba, Saito went to pay his bill. However, on pulling out his wallet, something else had miraculously appeared in his pocket, and it rolled its plump little self along the tatami mats. The waitress picked it up and looked at it, before handing it to a very confused looking police officer.
"Excuse me sir, but you dropped this." She smiled. Saito put his head on one side, looking at the doll with a puzzled, yet bemused look on his face, eventually coming to the conclusion that it was a temporary parting gift from his wife. He took it back with thanks, completed the transaction, and went home, grateful at last his headache was fading, and the little fox doctor's doll in his pocket.
