Rurouni Kenshin Fan Fiction ❯ That Voodoo That You Do ❯ Megumi's Scheme ( Chapter 5 )

Megumi looked down with a sad sigh at the very last of her Magic Dolls. It was the miniature Kaoru, and it was the only one left that she was able to retain. She recounted what happened to the other seven of her cloth children.

`Yahiko' she had given to Kaoru that morning. A bird had abducted her `Kenshin' doll, probably for its nest. The `Misao' she had given to Yahiko, and to Misao as a thank you, she sent the `Saito' on express delivery, by train to Kyoto and then by courier. The `Sano' doll she had misplaced somewhere, which was a shame because she had planned a pleasurable torture for that one. To be able to touch someone without laying a finger on them… she bit her tongue in self-reprimand, and readjusted her thoughts to the dolls. The `Aoshi' doll she hadn't seen since leaving the dojo either, but in all honesty she didn't care what happened to that one. Oh, and then there was the `Kaoru' doll.

"Well, if I can't have fun with Sir Ken, then I s'pose I can at least make Miss Kaoru toy with him, and I can hear about it later." Almost predictably, those ears appeared, ans she cradled the doll, whispering things into its ear.

MEANWHILE

Yahiko was sat fumbling with the tie to the plait of his Misao doll, which he undid. Unbeknownst to him, in Kyoto, Misao was subconsciously doing the same thing as she prepared for an early night at her idol's request.

Kenshin was sat in a peaceful pose, mimicking how miles away, Aoshi had placed his counterpart to sit beside him in evening meditation. Of course he didn't know this, thinking how peaceful he was in almost solitude.

Sanosuke was drying along with his mini mannequin outdoors. The latter had been washed along with Kenshin's laundry whilst the former had opted for a bath. While one hung by the line, the other had attempted to sunbathe on the roof in the last of the daytimes sunshine, but had slipped and was hanging stable by his fingers onto the roof. Pride kept him from shouting, or so he thought.

Kaoru was sat, taking Kenshin's strange behaviour in, reminding herself that everyone had off days. Even Kenshin. She was about to make a comment to him about drinking the tea he had requested her to make, but when she opened her mouth, words of a completely different nature spilled out.

"Kenshin, have you ever had any dirty thoughts about me?"

That got his attention. And Yahiko's. Even Sanosuke shimmied along the roof to look at her through the open dojo door. Realising what she said, she blushed the colour of fresh blood, and used her hand to cover her mouth, attempting to mask her embarrassment.

"I'm sorry!" She apologised with vigour, "I don't know why I said that!" He went back to his Aoshi-like concentration, face devoid of expression. She licked her lips, "But Kenshin, what about Miss Megumi? After all, she's far better suited to you than I am."

She couldn't help herself. Kenshin glared, but said nothing, returning once again to his ascendance activity. Finally the last straw came when Kaoru blurted, "I don't want you here anymore. I think you should stay with Megumi and make her your happy wife."

Sano dropped from the roof, Yahiko passed out, and whilst Kaoru sat there with a look of horror from her supposed own words, Kenshin got up and left. He passed by Sano on his way out of the dojo. "Hey Kenshin," called his friend after him, "Where are you going?"

"Somewhere I can get some peace," answered the stoic reply. Of course, that meant Sanosuke would go too, leaving Yahiko on the floor and Kaoru in her tears.
