Chapter 6 Big brother!

With in a few minutes the group had reached the dojo. Kaoru continually chattered on about the Kamiya Kashin style. When they arrived Kaoru and Yahiko eagerly demonstrated their style for Takara. Takara watched them with interest. She was fascinated with the Kamiya Kashin style, never had she seen a style so defensive as that.

“Will you show us your style Takara?” Yahiko asked eagerly.

Takara wasn’t sure she wanted to. No one had ever watched her use or practice her sword skills before. “I don’t know...” Takara replied nervously fingering her bokken.

“Oh please!” Yahiko begged.

“I’ve never shown my skills to any one before.” She replied staring at the floor.

“That’s alright.” Kaoru said reassuringly. “What’s your style, then?” She asked.

Takara continued to stare at the floor. She hadn’t practiced any specific style. In fact she’d created her own. With no one to learn from in the forest she had to rely on experimentation. “It is called yoru ame.” *Night rain. I made it up! Ok so sue me!*

“I’ve never heard of that style.” Kaoru looked at her curiously.

“I’m not very good with it, I’m afraid, but I am a pretty mean archer.” She said smiling holding up her bow. “Would you like to see?” She may have been shy about her sword skills, but she loved showing off with her bow.

“You bet!” Yahiko jumped at the chance to see a new weapon in use.

“I’ve never seen that weapon used before.” Kaoru said as they walked out on the lawn.

“Well watch this!” Takara said as she raised an arrow to the string. She drew the bow till it was taut. She aimed at the tree in the front yard, taking aim and then swiftly let loose. The arrow soared at unrealistic speed and logged dead in the heart of the tree.

“Wow!” Yahiko shouted. He ran forward to look. “Hey Kaoru she hit the knot!” He shouted trying to pull out the arrow.

“Wow! That was amazing!” Kaoru said her jaw still hanging slightly open in shock.

“Thanks!” Takara said as she strolled forward and swiftly pulled the arrow from the tree, which Yahiko had been struggling with.

“That was so awesome!” Yahiko said bouncing up and down with excitement. Takara smiled. Yahiko stared at the smile it seemed vaguely familiar. Just then Kaoru offered Takara something to eat. Takara took the offer with thanks as she had not eaten in a few days.

“Wonderful! I’ll just whip something up!” Kaoru chirped as she headed off towards the kitchen.

“You’ll regret that.” Yahiko commented once Kaoru had left.

“Why?” Takara asked.

“She’s not a very good cook.” Yahiko whispered. Takara laughed heartily. It felt good as she had not laughed like that in a long time. “Now Kenshin on the other hand, is a great cook!” Yahiko said as they walked toward the kitchen.

“Who’s Kenshin?” Takara asked curiously. Before Yahiko could answer they heard the sound of the gate creak open. They turned to see Kenshin and Sano walk through.

“Here he is!” Yahiko shouted running towards them. Takara stared at the two men for a moment. The tall one did not look familiar, although she did find him somewhat handsome. Then her gaze fell upon the shorter of the two.

His red hair immediately caught her eye. Her mind began to swim with memories; memories of her parents telling her of her long lost brother with red hair. She had never seen another person with red hair other than her father.

“Hey guys! Come meet this girl me and Kaoru met today in the market!” Yahiko shouted pointing at her.

Takara stepped from the shadow of the porch and stared at the Battosai. Sanosuke saw her and stopped dead in his tracks. ‘Whoa!’ He thought.

“Is this her, Yahiko?” Kenshin asked politely.

“Yeah! This is Takara. Takara this is Kenshin!” Yahiko shouted introductions.

‘Kenshin.’ Her heart began to sink. That was not her brother’s name! She walked closer until she was, but 3 feet from the group. She could now clearer see his face and eyes. ‘They’re lavender!’ Her eyes widened as she recognized her family’s strange coloring. His face even had the same shape as her mother’s. It was almost undeniable. She was staring at Shinta!

“Please to meet you miss Takara.” Kenshin said smiling at her.

“Takara Himura.” She stated.

“Excuse me?” Kenshin asked a little confused.

“My name is Takara Himura.” She took a deep breath and stared at him. “What’s yours?”

Yahiko and Sano stared at one another for a moment before Yahiko spoke up. “Hey Kenshin, isn’t your name Himura?”

“That it is.” Kenshin whispered. Kenshin looked the strange girl up and down. He did not recognize her from anywhere, but when he saw her eyes his breath hitched.

“It is Shinta. Is it not?” She continued.

Sano stepped forward. “Look here miss, his name is Kenshin so….” Before he could finish Kenshin interrupted.

“My birth name is Shinta that it is. May I inquire as to how you know that?” Kenshin asked in a serious tone.

Takara gasped. She stepped forward and put her hand out to touch his face. “Kami.” She whispered. “It is you!” She said. They were all silent for a moment. Takara moved her fingers along his cheek. She bit her lip to keep from crying; all these years thinking her entire family was dead, and in one moment she finds a brother she never thought she’d meet.

Kenshin grabbed her hand. He stared at her intensely. “Your coloring is very strange, like mine.” He stated.

“Shinta,” She struggled to talk as a sob had lodged itself in her throat. “I’m your sister.” She finally said.

“What?” Sano and Yahiko said in unison.

Takara could no longer hold in the sob and threw herself at Kenshin choking back the tears. At first Kenshin was confused, but somehow he knew she was telling the truth. Her eyes held the same intensity as his. He held her for a while not saying anything. Sano and Yahiko stood nearby, very confused. Kaoru came out when she heard the commotion and was surprised to find Kenshin holding Takara. She was becoming very steamed, but Kenshin threw her a glance that told her she had nothing to fear from Takara.

Finally Takara had calmed down a bit and they were all sitting around the table drinking tea. Takara wiped her eyes and smiled at Kenshin. “I never thought I’d meet you.” She said.

“Forgive me for asking, but how is Kenshin your brother?” Kaoru asked now completely filled in on the incident. Kenshin watched Takara questioningly as he too wanted to know how he could possibly have a sister.

Takara took a deep breath. “This may take a while.” She sighed pouring herself more tea before she began
