Chapter 14 A new beginning
They arrived safely back in Tokyo and the others at the dojo were astonished to hear what had happened. For a week after that Takara remained unconscious. Everyday someone would go in to her room and talk to her, trying to get a response.
Nothing seemed to be working and they were all very sad. Finally one day Sano went in to talk to her. “Hey Takara. I wish you’d wake up.” He brushed a loose hair from her face before he continued. “Kenshin isn’t angry with you. He’s just worried about you. We all are. We want you back. We don’t care about what you did, we forgive you. I forgive you.” Sano leaned over her face as a tear slid from his cheek it fell on her forehead. “I love you Takara, I don’t know what I’ll do if you die.”
Suddenly her eyelids began to blink a little. He sat back a little as her eyes slowly opened and she stared at the ceiling. She sat up and looked down at her hands. Sano was speechless with joy. He grabbed her hand and she turned to look at him. “Takara! You’re awake!”
Her eyes began to swell with water. “Why am I alive?” She asked.
“I stopped you just in time. What were you thinking?”
“NO!” She shouted. She pushed him away and held her head. She squeezed her eyes closed. “Why did you stop me? I need to repent for what I’ve done. Suicide is the only way!” *I know sounds a little like Megumi.*
Sano grabbed her by wrists. “Are you crazy? There are other ways to repent; death is not always the answer. That’s always been your problem, you solve everything with killing!”
“It’s all I know!”
“We can change that.”
“We?” She looked up at him thoughtfully.
“We; Kaoru, Yahiko, your brother, me. We’ll help you.” He looked down at her as she leaned towards him and touched his cheek. “You know what you almost did to me? I couldn’t live without you.” He wrapped an arm around her and played with her hair. “I love you.”
Tears slid down her cheeks. He was her savior, her voice of reason. She smiled at him and he grinned. “What would I do without you, Sano?” She pulled him down and kissed him softly. He kissed her back and they just sat there kissing and holding each other for a moment.
“What’s all the ruckus?” Yahiko shouted as he slid the door open. “Eww!” He shouted when he saw them. “Wait… Takara’s awake!” He shouted down the hall. Sano pulled away when he heard the thunder of the others coming down the hall. Kenshin stopped at the door and stared at his sister.
She stared back and half smiled at him. “Takara!” He cried as he grabbed her up in a tight hug.
“I’m sorry.” They said at the same time. They looked deep into each other’s eyes, identical lavender eyes.
“I’m sorry for all the trouble I caused. You were right, killing no matter who you’re killing is wrong. I won’t do it anymore, I swear.” She looked at all of them.
“And I’m sorry. I should have been able to protect you.” Takara put a finger to his mouth and smiled. “Bro…I appreciate the thought, but with all you guys protecting me, I’ll never have any fun.” They all laughed.
“I’m glad you’re back, Takara. Sano just wasn’t his same annoying self when you were unconscious.” Kaoru commented.
Takara turned to her man and smiled. How he loved that smile. He didn’t care who was watching, he pulled her into his arms and held her, resting his chin on her head. She leaned back against him and sighed contentedly.
Kenshin smiled to himself. “Now that you’re awake, we should discuss you’re future.” He commented.
Takara sat up straight. “What about my future?”
“A girl of your age should be thinking about settling down. Luckily I’ve found you the perfect husband.” Kenshin said hiding his sarcasm well.
Takara scrunched up her face. “Shinta, I don’t take kindly to arranged ….”
“Hopefully you can handle her Sano.” Kenshin said eyeing his tall friend. Takara never finished her sentence she just spun around to look at Sano, who seemed just as astonished by Kenshin’s words as she was.
“You mean?” She questioned excitedly.
“I give my blessing whenever you to are ready.”
Kaoru clasped her hands together in excitement. Yahiko’s face held a look of disgust.
Takara grinned at Sano and threw her arms around his neck pulling him down to her for a kiss. He was surprised, but kissed back. He pulled away for a second and smiled his trademark smile at her. “What happened to going slow?”
“I think I’m ready to speed up now.” Takara finally had everything she ever wanted; it just took her awhile to realize it.
