Kenshin sat amidst a pool of dark warm blood and was staring with disbelief in his eyes, “No! Kaoru! Don't leave me! Please no!” his voice horse, ripped to shreds from screams of torture. A small broken hand reached up and stroked his face, “Kenshin, my Kenshin. I will never leave you! I will al…” Kaoru stopped, coughing up more of her life's blood. “I will always love you. Remember that! Promise me that you'll…” Her voice died as her hand began to go limp. “No Kaoru! I promise, please don't leave me I-I love you!” Kenshin screamed, but to no avail. Kaoru's eyes faded away as a last sunny smile toughed her marred and bloody face. Kenshin's breath caught in his throat as a new wave of tears ran down his face. Burring his face into her chest he let go a sea of tears and sobs.

 

Three hours later

 

The police man draped a blanket around his shoulders and sat down behind his desk. “Now then Kenshin can you tell us what happened?” The older man asked in an uncaring softening my tone because you are a child voice. Kenshin raised his head, his fiery red hair falling back reviling burning gold eyes. “I have lost every thing of importance to me. First my family, then my girl friend, next I lost my friends, and then I finally lost the woman that I loved more then any thing else for some thing that she didn't even do. So officer I would greatly appreciate it if you wouldn't use that tone of voice with me. I have gone through more then you could ever imaging. So if you want to hear one than I suggest that you sit down, shut up, and treat me with more respect.” His voice almost gone turned into a hiss that was so cold, so full of hatred, and so full of pain that the officer sat up straight and asked him, “Kenshin, you have to tell me precisely what happened from the moment you met her to when she died or else I am going to have to assume that you killed her.” Kenshin glared at him. “Fine, I will tell you how it started…..” Kenshin began telling the story that changed him for ever.
