I am about to tell you a tale that was once thought of as a myth, but I know the truth. It is said that there was only one Battousai, but there was once one who was just as good as him. The only exception is that this rival was in fact, a girl. It is said that she is the only one who can actually get through to him, since they have been best friends since they met. I will now tell you the tale of how they met.

A young girl slowly walked down the dirt road, her kimono covered in dirt, and torn. Her face was tear-stricken, and dirty. A loud thunderclap made the girl jump, and she started running as rain began to fall down onto the ground. Her brown hair and kimono soon became soaked to the bone. Without any warning, the girl tripped, and fell into the mud. Tears slid down her face as she stifled a sob. She hated this; she just wanted it all to end. Looking up, she saw a hand, and connected to that hand was a young boy with dark red hair. She accepted his hand, and slowly got up.

She gave him a smile and said, "Thanks . . . what's your name?" He paused, and said, "Himura, Himura Shinta. What about you?" The girl paused, and said, "I don't know my last name, but my first name is Tenshi." She paused, and then asked, "Do you live around here?" Shinta nodded, and then looked confused and said, "I don't really know, we move around a lot." "Well, where are your parents?" Shinta frowned and looked down at the ground, "They died. What about you?" Tenshi also frowned and said, "They were murdered by bad people . . . Hey! I've got an idea! I'll be like your sister! Yeah! Now my new name is Himura Tenshi!" Shinta looked bewildered, and then grinned, "Sounds like fun! I've always wanted a brother or sister." Tenshi nodded in agreement, then took his hand, "So where are you staying?" Shinta started walking towards the camp area where he was staying.

When they got back to the camp, Tenshi was introduced to the others, and the tree women who had taken such a liking towards Shinta squealed and immediately accepted her. At first, Tenshi was a little scared of them, and so when introduced she ran behind Shinta and clutching his shirt, she looked at them in awe. Soon, she grew accustomed to the people. Tenshi blushed when the women gave her a new kimono; it was a little large, but she'd grow into it perfectly. The next morning, they set off; Shinta and Tenshi hand in hand. All day, they walked, and all day they talked about everything imaginable. They acted like real brother and sister. Soon the sun began to set.

Tenshi was slowly walking along beside Shinta when shouts from the front were heard. Bandits were attacking the group! The women took Shinta and Tenshi to a safer area, and they watched in horror as the men were torn apart by the bandits swords. Shinta felt a burning rage fill his chest, and when another one of the men was slaughtered, he reached down and picked up one of the swords. Tenshi reached out, and placed her hand upon one of his shaking hands, "Shinta" She said breathlessly "If you're going to fight, then so am I. I might not have a weapon, but I can pack a good punch." They started running, but were pulled back by the women. They shielded them from the bandits, and Shinta and Tenshi could only watch in horror as their companions were all killed.

*Just to let you know, don't have a clue what happens where, so I'm making it up from what information I have, ok? If you know the correct story, please tell me!*

Soon the bandits were all finished with the men, and turned to the women. Sneering, they ignored their cries to spare them, and swiftly killed them. Before they could kill Tenshi and Shinta, though, a mysterious man with a white cape appears and slices one of the bandits in half. The other bandits turn around, furious, and start to attack him. He kills each one with ease. Before Shinta or Tenshi can utter a word, he leaves them. Tenshi looks around her, and starts to cry. "W . . .Why? Why'd they have to go and sacrifice their selves for our sake? Why did those bandits have to be so . . . so evil?" Shinta put his arms around her and said, "The least we can do is bury them, and give them a small funeral in their honor, ne?" Tenshi looked up at him and said, "how? We don't have any digging tools." Shinta shrugged, "We'll have to use our hands." Tenshi nodded, and they started working.

A few hours later, the graves were finished. Tenshi and Shinta were sitting in front of the three women's graves, tears flowing down their cheeks. Tenshi had torn part of her kimono and placed it on the grave markers. Behind them, the man with the white cloak appeared. He called out, "Boy, your name?" Shinta said, "Shinta." "Shinta, eh? From now on, your name shall be Kenshin." Shinta/Kenshin looked up at him and said, "Ken . . . shin?" Tenshi looked up at him too, and said, "My name is Tenshi, and I'm shin, I mean, Kenshin's sister." The man looked down at her, then at Kenshin and said, "You will be a warrior among warriors." Tenshi looked up at him and said, "If Kenshin is going to become a warrior, then so am I. I don't care what it'll take, I will become better than the best if I have to." The man smirked and said, "You both will become the best of warriors, now come with me." Tenshi and Kenshin got up, and followed the man in the white cape.

Tenshi slowly walked down the hallway of the dojo she was staying in. She was carrying a tray with food for two. Sliding open a door, she walked in and called out, "oniichan! Dinner!" Tenshi occasionally called Kenshin oniichan, because he was like a brother to her. She still remembered her promise to him ten years ago; that she would be his sister. Kenshin was asleep, and Tenshi smiled softly. "Baka," she said quietly, "You knew dinner would be ready soon. I even made this miso soup myself." She sat down the tray, and carefully walked over to him, keeping her distance. They had been trained to not really fall asleep, but to only be half asleep. That way, in case of an attack, they could react swiftly. Tenshi crept over till she was about five feet away, and said a little louder, "Keni-chan, get up! Your dinner is getting cold!" Kenshin's eyes flew open, and as a reaction, he unsheathed his sword. Swinging it out, he swiped at Tenshi. Tenshi jumped backwards, but tripped, and fell onto her back.

Kenshin's eyes widened, and he ran over to Tenshi, "Daijobu da, Tenshi? I didn't cut you, did I?" Tenshi nodded, and accepted Kenshin's hand. "Baka!" she said, hitting him on the side of his head, "You really need to chill sometime, you know? Aah! Dinner!" She rushed over to the tray, and brought it over to where they were sitting. "Eat up!"

About twenty minutes later, one of the men slid open the door and said, "We've got a problem."
