Sailor Moon Fan Fiction / Dragon Ball/Z/GT Fan Fiction ❯ The Banished and the Destined ❯ End of DUN-DUN-DUN SUSPENSE ( Prologue )

A woman stood among the rubble, smeared with dust and pale from the shock of unexpected tragedy. Shining brown hair dulled with dirt had fallen out of the disheveled ponytail and blew lightly in the wind. A single tear ran down her dismayed face, feelings only then catching up with the utter horror that was spread out before her.

Trista ran up to Sara, gasping slightly while clutching a tiny child to her breast. Her panicked expression changed to fright as she closed the gap between them and watched the destruction at the top of the barren hill.

The land before the two women had been a blossoming, thriving city only hours ago. Now it laid waste in useless slag, bodies strewn out with puddles of blood growing further and further out from underneath their dead weight. Prosperous buildings were toppled, support beams and whatnot sticking into the smoggy sky.

Trista cast her eyes downward in respect to the lost lives. The baby clutched in her arms squirmed slightly, oblivious to the rising smoke and dying moans floating into the air. The little baby girl reached out a delicate hand and grasped on a long lock of deep green hair with a smile. Trista smiled back, admiring the invisible aura of innocence surrounding that lucky little thing.

The baby eventually let the silky strands slip out of her hand with a yawn and a coil of her fuzzy little monkey tail, and settled back into slumber. Trista turned to Sara with a stern face.

A violent burst of wind let the long brown hair slip over Sara's shoulders, revealing the smudged face. Sara looked at the wasteland below while the muscles in her jaw twitched.

"Atitude…" It came out in a level tone tainted with boiling rage. Sara's hands curled into fists.

The baby girl's eyes snapped open and immediately began wailing. Trista tried to coax the child back to sleep, but gave up and handed her to her mother.

"There there, Ana." Sara clutched the child to her chest with sudden affection, her anger forgotten temporarily for the child. She buried her face in the matching brown hair, "It's ok now…it's ok…" Ana's tears eventually ceased. Sara's only grew more. Trista observed this and decided to lead Sara to her son's corpse later…

"Poor Loax…" Trista said under her breath in words of regret. She had almost saved the young boy. But almost wasn't enough.

Loax had desperately tried warding off Atitude's minions with only his beginner's skill, but he still amazingly held his own. And the determination he had held had burned so brightly within his eyes, determination to protect his mother and his people. Such a strong, caring boy.

Trista winced as she heard Sara choke back a muffled sob. Maybe telling Sara about her son's fate at a later time would be wiser. She would tell later for both of them, because they had shared enough heartbreak already.

Trista's vision went hazy for a moment as a howling wind whistled through the destruction. She could sense a presence.

The air blew only harder and the sky darkened from rusty brown to dreary grey. Trista's vision blacked out for a split second when she felt a clawed hand clench around her lungs, eliciting a struggled gasp. After a small twist the illusionary hand released her. She stumbled back a step before her eyes cleared.

Trista gasped again as she saw a man perched upon a collapsed building amidst all the destruction. His deceivingly innocent feathery blonde locks and deep blue eyes stood out from his blood-smeared face.

But it wasn't his blood.

A limp body lay next to his feet. Instead of lacerated skin and blood oozing from deep wounds, it looked drained and sunken. Large bites stood out on the snapped neck where Atitude had taken his feast.

Atitude smiled, an evil fire filling his eyes.

"Take Ana." Sara ordered as she handed the baby to her friend, wiping her tears away clumsily. Ana shifted a little with wide eyes, her sixth sense now picking up the terror.

Sara strode down the hill, sniffling back her tears. She stumbled every few steps from fatigue but still held her head high. What she had thought was a finished battle was no longer.

She stopped ten feet from Atitude. Bitterness was written all over her smudged face. But beneath all that bitterness was shaking knees and stuttered breathing. Blood trickled down her right arm and ran off her fingers with a plip, the torn sleeve showing gaps of brutally torn skin.

Trista fingered Ana's clothing. A large red blot had soaked into the white cloth.

Her brows furrowed. Sara shouldn't be fighting. She would die if she did. But Trista knew that no one would or could stop her, because Sailor Universe was the only one powerful enough to defeat Atitude, Lord of the Underworld.

"So." Atitude's rich voice boomed over the land and echoed back, "I've destroyed your precious home, Sailor Universe. All the heirs that could have taken your place after your death are now all gone. Your family is deceased, Sara. All is lost-."

"Wait." Sara said quietly in restrained defiance, interrupting Atitude's speech, "I still have my son, Loax, heir to the Overworld. All is not lost yet, Atitude." Sara's voice was chillingly bitter. Her eyes looked up and challenged his, determination hovering over the fear and pain.

Trista rushed down the opposite side if the hill, away from the two opponents. Sara hadn't mentioned Ana. If Atitude didn't know about little Ana, then there might be hope for Earth…

Atitude's eyes narrowed.

"Foolish Onna."

Atitude scooped up the body by his feet and tossed it recklessly toward Sara. The corpse flopped and skidded slightly before stopping face-up at Sara's feet. The skin had sunken against the cheekbones and the eyes had turned black from the poison of the Underworld, but the messy brown locks and pouty little mouth hanging agape were proof enough. It was Loax.

Sara gasped and backed up in horror, odd squeaks rising from her throat. Words couldn't form from her.

"You and your dear Sailor Pluto did a fine job of defeating my minions…" Atitude's eyes narrowed even more as he peered over his crossed arms down at Sara, "…But one last follower brought me the young prince's body. Even when dead, you protectors of the Overworld still overflow with that disgustingly pure energy of yours…" Atitude's mouth twisted in sourness, "But I like it that way. His dying life force has left me revived. I'm ready to take you on, Universe, but can you take me on?" His disgusted expression turned to a triumphant smirk.

She gave him the dirtiest look one could muster. Sara ripped the ornate key off of her neck with bared teeth. The key grew bright with pure white energy and hummed with a resonate ring. The same glow from the key filled her watery blue eyes, confirming her challenge.

"Universal…RECALL!" Sara's arm stretched out above her head with the key hovering just above.

Sara's feet lifted off the ground floatily before the land was engulfed in an intense flash of light.

Trista crouched on the ground, shoving Ana's face into her chest while keeping her eyes shut tight. She didn't want the baby's vision to get hurt. White wind whirled around her, carrying echoes and blurred messages with them. It was Sara transforming.

When the brightness finally dimmed, Sara was Sailor Universe. Instead of ragged clothes and dirtied features, there was a softly glowing white sailor uniform and beauty radiating from cleansed skin. Small bolts of bright blue lighting struck down on the long gold staff in her right hand, making the air around her flicker in a heavenly light. Shining brown hair swam around her head, adding an even more dangerously ethereal air to her. But the ice in her eyes clashed with all that shining beauty. Her anger made her more than ready to take Atitude on…or so she thought.

After the effects of transformation ended, she dropped down onto the ground carefully. As soon as her feet were planted on the ground, she sank in pain. The deep gashes in her arm reopened and oozed red. Sara bit her lip to hold back the whimpers.

"I thought you were ready to fight me, Universe. Your weakness disappoints me." Atitude observed dryly, arms still crossed over the black armor.

Sara struggled to her feet painfully. New determination surged through her and she took the golden staff into both of her hands, standing tall. Holding the staff directly in front of her with furrowed eyes, she started a chant.

The foreign words rolled off her tongue more and more smoothly until they ran together in a message that needed no language. The transparent-blue gem hovering inside the staff's top started humming and glowing. As her voice rose, the gem started slowly spinning, then picked up speed and spun faster and faster.

Atitude snorted at her. Normally Sara could prepare an attack like that in a total of three seconds.

Finally, Sara called out the final line to the chant in a booming scream.

"Universal…ECLIPSE!"

A ball of blindingly white energy grew over the staff, hovering slightly. Sara bared her teeth and furrowed her eyebrows in concentration, readying herself for the backlash.

Atitude placed one hand out palm up, smirking as crackling black energy grew over the outstretched palm entirely too fast.

Sara directed the staff in Atitude's direction while both their energies grew larger, Atitude's more rapidity than hers.

Sara's eyes watered from staring at the immense light for so long, "This is for my hometown, for my family, for Loax…AND FOR THE OVERWORLD ABOVE!" The energy ball shot off toward Atitude deafeningly.

Sara screamed in infuriating pain, the golden staff slipping out of her gloved hands and landing on the ground with a clatter. She stumbled back and nearly lost her balance from the sudden drain. It took almost everything out of her for that one attack.

Atitude grinned devilishly as he stretched his well-toned arm out again easily, the black energy residing inside his palm twice as large as the one hurtling toward him. The white energy soared slowly before they collided and clashed in another bright flash. The dark roared beast-like before swallowing the light.

Sara watched in horror as this happened. It couldn't be. It had been her last resort.

Atitude whisked the black energy back toward her like he was swatting a fly. It soared and loomed deviously over Sara's head before it crashed down, turning translucent as it touched her skin. Another flash went off and a sizzle was heard before everything went deathly silent.

Atitude brought his arm back to his side comfortably. Boots crushed small pebbles as he strode arrogantly over to Sara. His piercing gaze narrowed onto her as a hand rested on a hip.

There she lay, next to her dead son. Stupid bitch, he thought. She knew that she was no match for the Lord of the Underworld.

Atitude hesitated a moment before he picked up his foot. He landed a solid kick square in her side, feeling a broken rib under the skin. Sara's torso rocked once before flopping back onto the dirty ground. Unsettled dust collected on the small trickle of fresh blood running out of her open mouth.

Atitude smirked, all suspicion confirmed. Sailor Universe was dead. Sara was dead.

Atitude's mind swam with filthy arrogance, already hungering for his next chance to challenge someone worthy of his skill. Oh yes, there would definitely be others that would rise up to face him. It wasn't everyday that the most powerful Sailor Scout in all of the history of the universe was destroyed.

He curled up his fist and held it by him in a gesture of strength. Oh yes, it would be great, having everything existing under his archaic control.

Atitude shook until he couldn't control it anymore; a rich, body-moving laugh erupted from inside him, pouring all of his grand evil into the dreary sky above.

Trista clutched little Ana protectively to her, fleeing as fast as her weakened legs could carry her. She would take Ana to somewhere safe, somewhere where Atitude would never learn of her until it was too late for him.

If Atitude didn't know of Ana…then there would be hope for the universe.

And the universe needed all the hope it could get.
