Sailor Moon Fan Fiction ❯ An American Boy in Tokyo ❯ Beginning Stages ( Chapter 9 )
We all split up and went to different places to gather the materials needed to begin construction. Imara had one her mechanic friends join us in the effort as well. The outer senshi went to the salvage yard in town to collect a few unusable vehicals. Mina, Amy, and Myself went to a computer repair shop to purchase the items necessary to build the computer sections. Lita went to a friend of hers and asked him about some of the equipment, three hours later we met back at my place. Amy and I started working on the electrical systems. Imara and her friend got the metal pieces shaped for the exterior. I had just finished the interior works for the laser cannon on the left arm, when they brought the housing for it in. I carefully placed the cannon inside the casing and they welded it shut. I then took the racing helmet apart and started wiring it. I then plugged the micro computers into my computer and started programming them. At the day's end two of the most important pieces were finished and ready for testing.
"Okay, I'm going to test the helmet now." I said. I tied a rope around the front and back ends of the laser cannon and hoisted it up, using the rope as a shoulder strap. I then plugged the helmet into the port and put it on. "Cross hairs are go." I said moving the cannon's barrel around. "Magnification test." I used my thumb to increase the magnification. "Magnification is go. Infra red test." I said using my pinky finger to flip a switch. "Heat signatures detected, attempt shielding." Amy held up a blanket in front of her. "Heat signature still detected, Someone kill the lights." I said. The room went black.
"Testing light amplification." My pinky flipped the switch to a third position, and I spun to the left, stopping Imara in her tracks. "Hey Imara, you know you have a zit on your neck?" I asked.
"What?" She reached up and felt for it.
"Kapow!" I said. "Light Amplification is go." I flipped the switch again returning it to normal mode. "Helmet systems are go, good job everyone." I said. "Lights." They came back on. I took the helmet off. "Tomorrow, we'll test the cannon."
"Okay, I've got the muscle amplifier for the right arm almost done." Amy said. "It's pressure activated, so it will slow you're movements down a little, but it shouldn't be too bad."
"Good, how's the vehical coming?" I asked Imara. She smiled.
"It has potential but it's gonna take a while before it's ready." I nodded.
"What model did you pick?"
"A Chevy Corvette, early seventies model, convertible."
"Okay, just make sure it's an automatic transmission."
"What? You're joking right?"
"No, I'll have more important things to do besides shifting gears." I said. "The hemi sitting in my garage is a manual, that's good enough."
"Did you just say hemi?" Imara asked.
"Yeah, sixty four and a half model Ford Mustang, completely revamped engine and dual exhaust manifold with a nitrous injector in the trunk. Four on the floor, soft top, dark orange with a yellow racing stripe down the driver's side, and all chrome detailing." Imara was almost to the point of drooling when I finished.
"That car is an icon to her." Michelle said chuckling.
"What's it's name?" Imara asked. "You must have named it."
"Magellan." I replied. "My dad had it built for me, and ordered the chrome pieces I requested, modifying it to suit my tastes. Special ordered rims and gear shift handle. The seats are black leather, racing style..."
"Stop talking!" Imara said. "Show me!" I lead them upstairs and pulled my key ring out of my pocket opening the door next to the one that lead to my room. Inside I flipped on the light switch and yanked the tarp off the car. I opened the garage door and got in, starting the engine. I carefully pulled it out of the garage to give them more room to look at it. Afterwards, I revved the engine a few times before shutting it off.
"Hey, Alex, is this..." Mina started pointing to the design on the hubcaps.
"Your insignia, yes it is." I smiled. "This car has only been on the road twice. I very seldom drive it."
"No! Don't say that!" Imara ran up to it. "What if we took this car and made it into your transport?" She asked. "It's almost perfect for the job, just a few modifications, and we're ready to rock." I smiled and traced a finger over the emblem on the steering wheel. "Seriously, these things were built to take punishment, what do you say?"
"Let's do it." I replied. "We'll start tomorrow." I said. I started the engine and moved the car back into the garage, up on ramps this time. The others finally went home, once again leaving Mina and myself alone.
"Um, Alex, I was kind of wondering about something." She said. "Do you think I might be able to stay here tonight?" She asked. I was caught completely off guard.
"You want to stay here? With me?" I asked. She nodded slowly.
"It's just that, well, the scouts are all out of practice, including me. What if they try to attack us while we're sleeping?"
"That's a valid thought." I replied. "What about your parents?"
"I can tell them I'm staying over at Raye's and have Raye cover for me." She said. I nodded.
"Are you sure that will work?" She nodded.
"I've done it before." She said.
"Okay, it doesn't bother me any." I said. She made the phone calls, just like she said, it was pulled off perfectly.
"Raye hastled me a little." Mina said. "But she agreed, under the condition that she could tell everyone else." I smiled. Shortly afterwards the phone rang.
"Hello?" I answered it.
"Alex, good it's you." Raye's voice replied. "I just wanted to tell you one thing real quick."
"Okay, shoot." I replied.
"You'd better not hurt her, Alex, you had better take full responsibility for any actions you take." She said. "You do know what I'm talking about, right?"
"Um, I can hazard a guess, Raye." I replied. "And you have nothing to worry about." I said.
"Just remember, she's head over heels for you, and she's trusting you with her well being, as are the rest of us, whether we openly admit it or not. She's like a sister to all of us." I smiled.
"I know, and you have my word, I will not do anything that I am not fully prepared to follow up." I said.
"I didn't think you would, but I was just letting you know how I felt." Raye replied. I smiled again.
"I appreciate your honesty, Raye, I'll talk to you later." I hung up the phone and turned to Mina.
"Wow, you are good!" She said. "So, where am I gonna be sleeping?" She asked. I chuckled.
"Okay, I'm not going to say the first thing that comes to mind, but my parents room is upstairs, the couch here folds out to a full size bed, I can set up a cot in my room, or, heaven forbid, you can always share my bed with me." I said.
"You'd like that wouldn't you?" She asked smiling.
"Well, contrary to popular belief, not all boys my age spend all their time trying to get laid, Mina." I said.
"What about you?"
"Me? Personally, I don't care either way. I mean, yeah, I want to," I chuckled, "what guy in their right mind would turn down a shot at you? None that I know of, but on the other hand, I'm not that shallow. I'm not going to pressure you into something that you're not ready for. I have a great deal of self control, and if things get too bad for me, my dad has a stash of dirty magazines upstairs." I said. She made a face.
"Ew! Gross!" She said. I shrugged and pointed at her.
"It's your call."
"What? On sex?" She asked looking shocked.
"No, where do you want to sleep?" I said smiling. She blushed and laughed nervously.
"Oh, um, let's set up that cot."
"Okay, you get the bed, I'll take the cot." I said. I went downstairs and folded it out in a corner throwing an extra pillow and a blanket on it neatly.
"Alex, I don't want to throw you out of your bed or anything."
"Mina, don't worry about it, I wouldn't dream of having you sleep in this rickety old thing." I said.
"You're so sweet." She replied smiling.
