Sailor Moon Fan Fiction ❯ An American Boy in Tokyo ❯ Carpe Diem ( Epilogue )
"So what's going on as far as marriage is concerned?" Raye asked. "I mean we still haven't heard a date set down yet."
"Yeah, really." Amy said. "If it turns out to be anything like the one Alex described, that's one festivity that I can't wait for." she smiled.
"Well, actually," I replied, "we've decided to put it off for a while." I still had bandages covering my chest.
"Yeah, when we had that fight, it really brought us both back down to Earth." Mina agreed. "We both came into the relationship thinking it was going to be the perfect love affair, and when it didn't turn out that way, it almost split us right down the middle. We just need time to get used to each other first."
"Hello, isn't a little late to change your mind?"
"Who said anything about changing our minds?" I asked. "This isn't a trial run or anything, it's just kind of like a halfway house, we still have just enough freedom to move around and not feel completely trapped, but we're still attached at the hip." I said.
"Pelvis seems a little more appropriate if you ask me." Amy mumbled slightly. I cut a short laugh and shook my head.
"What's the matter, Amy, jealous?" Mina asked. Amy started to protest, then just blushed and turned away causing everyone to erupt into a round of uncaged laughter.
"Well at any rate, I'm just glad that the two of you finally got your stuff straight." Darien said. "Because when you two started fighting, it got Serena all riled up at me, and I'm a guy, I know that not everything you girls hear is one hundred percent accurate."
"And you see, Mina, I was not using you as bait, that was a very unexpected twist, when you locked me out of the basement." I said. "Which by the way, whatever happened to that lock anyways?" I asked whistling and looking around innocently.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah, you know I hate show offs." She replied. "So don't rub it in."
"Okay, okay, but anyways, what I was actually saying was that the five of you wouldn't know the difference in your power pens as long as I kept the attention focused in one of two places, Rini, or Mina and myself."
"So what was that supposed to accomplish again, because the last part of that whole battle thing was a blur to me." Lita said.
"Okay, because of their laws, when I was initiated into the agency formally, that put me in a position where the IROG are the only ones who feel that they have the right to discipline me, period." I said. "And so a law was put in place that stated that anyone outside the agency who lays a finger on the perpetrator, takes punishment in their place, or along side them, whichever the case may be."
"Wow, that was pretty smart, because we already knew that General Shenlong would come after you again." I nodded.
"No one else has ever survived an encounter with him, he had a reputation to protect, so when I became a convict, Jackson raised a shield arround the planet, keeping IROG forces from arresting me, until Shenlong had the chance to try and kill me."
"You really are a Maniac, you know that don't you." Jackson's voice said from the stairs. He was wearing a white suit for a change. "I've got news from The Commander." He said.
"What's up?" I replied.
"We're starting a new agency, completely separate from IROG, but associated." He said. "Our primary goal is to carry out combat oriented missions based on IROG's commands, you game?"
"What kind of man power are we talking?" I asked.
"At the moment, we have fifteen hundred soldiers, counting me and you." He replied smiling and removing his shades again.
"Huh? What happened to you?"
"Well, I was selected for IROG when I was a Marine, I've seen a lot of hard core battles, Alex." He smiled. "And frankly, I can't wait for the next one."
"Well, um, what about my place here on Earth?" I asked. He smiled.
"The Commander wants you to set us up, Tell him what you need done, and he'll do it. Here, take this." He tossed me a cell phone. "It works just like the ones they peddle around here. Only difference is, speed dial one is The Commander's personal line, and uh, you'll never get a bill." He smiled. "I am also available to help you in anyway possible, sir." He saluted. I waved a hand at him.
"Knock that off, Jackson, you were my superior before I was yours, besides, we're all friends here." I shrugged. "No titles between you and me." I pointed. "That's rule number one, off the record of course."
"Of course, Alex." He replied.
Five decades have come and gone since then, and I've come to realize how the people of the Moon Kingdom lived thousand year life spans, I've learned a lot about the co-existence of the two realities, primarily through IROG databanks, but I can see it with my own eyes as well. The Moon Kingdom did exist in the plane called reality, where time passes normally, however, in the plane we call fantasy, time passes much more quickly, while those from `reality' still age normally after their twenty first birthday. It's complicated to explain the details and scientific explanations behind this, so I won't bore you with them, suffice to say that what we call `fantasy' is in fact another form of `reality' where both dreams and nightmares can and, more often than not, do come true. Crystal Tokyo has risen, just as we knew it would, and thanks to the new agency being headed up by Vice Commander Jackson Calhoun and myself, Commander Alex Simpleton, the threats that `reality' knows will eventually bring it down, will never come to pass, our forces number in the hundreds of thousands universe wide, ready to lash out at a moments notice at the unsuspecting forces of darkness.
That was the long of it, now here's the shortened version. Reality supplies the fantasy realm with heroes and heroines to defend it from the nightmares that people suffer. In return, those same heroes and heroines keep the nightmares from entering reality. IROG is like the governing force that keeps watch over both realms, staying in the shadows, and taking no credit for their selfless acts of bravery, fortitude, and courage, three characteristics that often confused as being the same thing. However, when you've been in battle with the nightmares and horrors that I have, things gain a new sense of clarity. I used to fear the daylight, despising it for the pain and suffering that came with it, but now I look forward to each new day with a passion that I never knew I could have. So you see, mom and dad, I am still alive, and doing quite well, your grand daughter looks just like his mother. I just wish that you could meet her, not so I could gloat and say I told you so, but so you could see for yourself what a wonderful thing came of something that everyone thought to be a hopeless and futile pursuit. I just hope that this message is sent to the right place, opening worm holes and controling them is an IROG specialty, but even the almighty Agency of Light (their nick name) can make mistakes every now and again, until next we meet, goodbye.
Love Always, Your son,
Alex Simpleton
