I see her, smile faintly hinting at her amusement at my
blush and uncoordinated movements. She laughs, her nose
crinkling, her blue eyes sparkling, her navy hair shaking
gently above her ears. I could delve deep into those eyes, and
then bask myself in the cyan atmosphere. My mind sails from the
enveloping royal blue eyes upon a face fit for royalty a
thousand times over to other gazed at features, her lithe body
covered all too conservatively by her provincial and modest
clothing. If only she'd let it all go once in a while.

I wish I could be as well endowed with talent for academics
as she. I strive to be as close to her as possible, even lacking
as I know I am. Close is far better than nothing: far, far
better. I smile sheepishly in her direction and her look of
stifled giggling changes to one of concern for me. She heads
to me and reaches down, but I tell her I'm fine. I curse as I
realize one more chance to hold her hand has been shot down my
lack of foresight.

I stand there and stare at her once more, drinking in the
details. I blink as a realize her hand is not at her side, nor
resting on a book. The hand is held out, as if in pause,
waiting or me to click the play button. I blink once more,
attempting to assimilate the knowledge that life has offered
me a second chance, as it so rarely does. I take it, and she
smiles up at me.

She rests her head on my shoulder, and I shudder slightly with
joy. She doesn't seem to notice, and a genuine smile replaces
the laconic, geekish one that so usually possesses the space.
Maybe, just maybe, it will be ok.

"Boku no Ami-chan, aishiteru.1"

* * *

1. "Boku no Ami-chan, aishiteru" means "My dear Ami, I love
you."

Yes, this is an Urawa/Ami fic. Deal with it.

C&C always welcomed, as are flames, mail bombs, death threats,
and rotting voodoo chickens hanging from my rear view mirror
where my dice usually are.
