Chapter Five: Failure

~

They were sitting on a bench in central Juuban. There was nothing special about them.

Well, nothing if you didn't look too closely.

"Please?" Telanis asked for the hundredth time.

Kilag rolled his eyes. They had been sitting in the park for about an hour, waiting. "Not until she shows up. Then you can have all the fun you want."

"But I wanna have fun noooooow," Telanis whined. "Who are we waiting for, anyway?" she cocked her head and looked at her partner in crime.

Kilag slowly smiled as he stood. "Her."

Usagi and Minako walked into the park, both of them unusually quiet.

"All right," Minako huffed as she stopped, forcing her friend to stop as well. "Are you going to tell me what else is bothering you, or are you gonna force me into guessing?"

Usagi bowed her head. "There's nothing wrong. Well, besides the obvious," she lied.

Minako sighed and rubbed the bridge of her nose. "Yeah, and it's obvious there's something wrong besides Mamoru-san. So just tell me."

Usagi started walking again, motioning for Minako to follow her.

When Minako caught up to her, she began. "Last night, I was having a really hard time of dealing with it. I left my house for a walk, and Rei was standing outside. I ended up staying at the shrine last night," Usagi paused and took a deep breath as she thought of how she was going to say what she wanted.

Minako beat her to the punch though. "So she finally told you how she feels," she smiled slightly.

Usagi smiled slightly. "More or less. But -"

"Aino Minako?" Both girls stopped to face the voice intruding upon their conversation.

"Hai?" the blonde in question answered.

The man stepped forward and bowed. "I was an admirer of your work while you were in England," he said as he returned to his full height.

Minako immediately took a defensive position in front of Usagi. "Who are you and what do you want?" she asked cautiously.

He held his hands out as energy began to collect there. "I am Kilag," he said calmly. "And I want you!" he shouted as he released the gathered energy.

Minako's reflexes kicked in and she dove behind a tree, dragging Usagi with her. She pulled her communicator out of her subspace pocket and popped it open. "All available Senshi to Juuban central park! We've got problems!" she yelled into it. "Usagi, stay down. We don't know what this guy wants, but it can't be good," she said as her henshin wand appeared and she called out her transformation.

Rei walked through the house, gazing at the opulence of it. It reminded her slightly of the pictures Minako had shown her of Buckingham Palace.

The room had been a little difficult for her to get out of. The door had been three inches of solid steel, plus it had been protected by several magic wards. She had ended up just blasting through the wall, which surprisingly didn't have any kinds of defenses on it.

`I hope they aren't too angry about that,' she thought with a smirk. `Oh well, screw `em.'

Rei stopped suddenly, a haunting melody reaching her ears from somewhere in the house. `It sounds like a song Haruka would play,' she mused as she sought out the source.

She found it shortly thereafter, in what appeared to be the dining room, a large table placed in the middle of the room, a grand piano sitting off to the side, next to a fire burning low in the fireplace. Rei blinked a second at the fire. It was… silver?

`This place just gets weirder and weirder,' she thought as she turned her attention to the person sitting at the piano. It appeared to be a young girl, no older than seven. She was playing the piano with a precision that Rei wasn't sure even Haruka could match. As Rei approached her though, she noticed the girls hands were just laying on the keys, not moving.

But the keys were.

"You must be the new student," she said happily as she turned to look at Rei with unseeing eyes.

"Shit," Venus grunted as she narrowly dodged another energy ball from the man's hands. "Crescent Beam!" she shouted, aiming with her fingers again.

Again, his defenses deflected the shot away.

"You can't keep screaming out the invocation every time or you'll never touch me," he taunted. The only movements he had made since the battle had begum were to turn his body to follow Venus' retreating form. "You were a much more formidable warrior in England!" he continued. "Did you go soft, relying on others to do your job!? Hah, you've become a pathetic hack, Aino-san!"

Venus' face set into a stony mask, it becoming more obvious with each passing moment that this man was here to do nothing more than bug the shit out of her.

~

Usagi blinked as she watched Venus renew her attack against her assailant. He could tell the things he was saying were affecting the girl. She had always been proud of her accomplishments as Sailor V, and telling her she had become something less than that with her new role was something she would take personally.

"She's too emotional." The voice caused Usagi to yelp and spin around. She found herself face to face with a woman. "Oh, Kami, this can't be good," she thought as she tried to reach for her brooch.

The woman caught her hand and wagged her finger in front of the princess' face. "Uhn-uh. We can't have you doing that," she smirked. "It would ruin my fun."

Usagi stared wide-eyed at the woman as black coils escaped from her hands and encircled her body, leaving her completely immobile and utterly vulnerable.

"Sparkling Wide Pressure!" The woman spun on a dime and caught Jupiter's ball of electricity between her hands. "I'm not sure if you guys are just amateurs or if you're all really dumb," she smirked as she tossed Senshi's attack up and down in her hand like a baseball. "No, just dumb," she laughed as she caught the ball one last time and launched it behind her to slam into Ami's chest, knocking the girl back several meters.

"AMI!!!!!!!"

The woman smirked at the tall brunette, who was now seething in rage. "Oh, do you have a thing for her? Well, that sucks, because she just got hit by your magic," she sneered. "I really hope she's not dead," she stopped for a moment and feigned thought. "No, wait. Yes I do."

"You bitch. You are going to pay," Jupiter screamed as she charged the cocky witch.

The woman regarded her for a second before grabbing Usagi. "I think not," she laughed as she disappeared, the moon princess vanishing along with her.

Jupiter came up short as what had happened clicked in her mind.

They had gotten the princess. And she was too concerned about Ami to do anything about it. `I failed,' was her last thought as she fell to her knees.

~

Venus was really starting to hate this guy. The only time he attacked her was when she tried to physically charge him, and that was not working. `I'm going to get this guy.'

Her thoughts were interrupted, by a scream over near where Usagi was hiding. As she turned to the scene she saw Ami fly back and smash into a tree. Then she saw a Woman grab Usagi and disappear with her in tow.

"No…" she whispered.

"Well, looks like we are done for today," she heard Kilag say. "Be seeing you around, Aino-san"

Minako stood and looked into his eyes before he, too, disappeared.

`Yeah, and next time, you'll be dead,' she thought with determination as rage started to boil within her.

A/N

I know, I know!! This took forever. Curse that damn writer's block. Well, not really writer's block, more like writer's lack of a good way to end the chapter. But alas, her it is at last. Just like fishing for monkeys in a trash can.

Don't ask.

Later! Oh, and as always…

THANKS FOR READING!!!!!!!!!!!!!
