Chapter 12: The Birth of Pluto

Author's notes: Several more years have passed throughout the story. The timeline is still based in the Silver Millennium.
Standard disclaimers apply. I don't own Sailor Moon, the Greek Gods, or any of the characters I borrowed from various animes to fashion them after. The Guardians are mine. They have some pretty deadly weapons; don't mess with them without asking first.
I remember the day it was time to give Trista her powers and make her a senshi. I remember not wanting to do it. She had become happy where she was although she did miss us. She would call us about once a week just to tell us how she was and how things were. She did want to introduce us to Serenity, her best friend, but she knew that to tell anyone of whom and what we were would gather too much attention. So she had remained silent about her origins and why she was wise beyond her years.
Seven years had gone by before Hera announced that it was time. I begged and pleaded with the Queen of the Gods, but she calmly looked back at me and reminded me that I had bound Trista to this fate in order to spare her life. She also informed me that if I went back on my oath I would be forfeiting Trista, Rose and my lives.
So with a heavy heart, on Trista's twenty-second birthday, I went alone when Rose and I were summoned, so that Rose could ready herself to transfer over part of the powers of time.
Trista was standing in her room, looking very pretty in a black double strapped dress that clung to her bodice and stomach and flared out at her hips, fading to white as it reached the bottom, black gloves that came all the way up her arms and a black ribbon as a choker, her beautiful green hair, now down to her knees, was pulled up in her usual style. She took one look at my face and sighed softly, turning away a little to gaze out her window at the gardens below. "It's time, isn't it?"
I nodded sadly and I brought out a gold chain with a black opal as a charm and latched it around her neck, the colors reflecting off her tanned skin. "Happy birthday, Tris," I whispered in her hair, hugging her close to me as she fingered the charm and leaned back into me. I turned her slowly and took eight pins, the symbol of Pluto, from my space pocket and clipped two each on her four straps. "These are from Eros and Rose. They would have come but they had to get things prepared."
She sighed and nodded, remaining quiet before she asked me, "Am I going to have to leave the moon permanently?"
I gave her a small smile and shook my head, caressing her cheek. "No, not permanently, but you will now have duties you have to perform. Rose and I will train you to use your powers to the fullest and you will become the Guardian of Time as well as a protector of Queen Serenity."
She nodded again, looking a little relieved. "Am I going to be alone doing this?" I gave her a puzzled look and she blushed a little and clarified. "Am I going to be the only senshi?"
I smiled a little more and shook my head. "No, we have discussed it among the other Guardians and we each think that it would be wise if we all made senshi. None of them will know of our existence of course and it will take time to find the right ones for each power but you can help with that when the time comes."
She nodded again, listening to me thoughtfully as I put on the last pin. "I will be the only one that is both Guardian and senshi?"
I nodded, looking at her, amazed at how beautiful she had become. "Hai, it is safer that way, Tris. None of the others will have grown up with the Gods and they do not wish to be well known any longer. They are comfortable with the lives they lead. You are now of both worlds and can live in both. That is why we had you here for seven years. However, no one will know that you are Sailor Pluto. We use a magic to disguise our true forms from anyone who does not know."
She bit her lip for a moment. "Will I be able to tell Serenity? And the other senshi when they come?"
I nodded. "You can tell whoever you wish. But I warn you to keep it limited, although," I smirked a bit, "I don't think I really had to warn you since you have kept your origins and who your sisters are a secret from all who know you."
Trista giggled a little. "There have been times that I have wanted to tell someone, but it is hard to explain. I have only told Serenity that I have two older sisters, who live far from here. I guess I will have to explain a little more once I become Sailor Pluto, ne?"
I shook my head. "She already knows that there will be a female warrior coming to protect her. The silver crystal told her that." I winked when Trista shot me a look for sending the Queen a message through the stone. "So are you ready?"
Trista looked around her room for a moment, looking as if she wanted to wait but then determination filled her garnet eyes and she nodded.
I gave her a proud look as I took out my staff and called forth the Gates and the two of us stepped through, entering right outside the ceremonial chambers. I allowed Trista to get her bearings, since she had not seen the place she had grown up in since she was 15.
She looked around her for a long moment before closing her eyes and savoring the feel of the place that had once been home. When she looked at me she was smiling softly. "I have missed this place," she whispered.
"And this place missed you," a voice behind us said, causing both of us to turn around to see Chesna standing there.
The Senshi of Peace grinned and gave Trista a warm hug, standing back and looking over Trista. "Wow! You've turned into such a lady!"
She laughed softly, her crimson eyes soft and warm. "Hello, Chesna. It has been a long time and I have missed you as well."
Chesna turned a smile at me before nodding towards the doors. "Come on, everyone is inside waiting on you. I decided to wait for you two out here so that I could greet you. Rose wanted to but she is too busy preparing herself."
I nodded and sighed, taking Trista's hand and following Chesna into the darkened room. I briefly recalled when I had received my own powers in this very room so many years before. I hoped that Trista was not as scared as I had been.
She squeezed my hand, and walked over to Eros and kissed his cheek softly before she moved to Rose, who led her to the middle of the circle, kissed her cheek before stepping back a few feet. She nodded to me and I took a burner to light the candles while Rose spoke softly on each one that I did. "We light these candles to give you the strength you will need as a senshi, a Guardian, and a protector."
I handed the burner to Rosely before moving into my spot around the ceremonial circle. She lit the green candle as Rose spoke. "Green signifies that you will have abundance, growth and health."
Chesna lit the yellow candle. "Yellow signifies that you will have intelligence, wisdom and honor."
Vega took the burner and lit the red candle. "Red symbolizes energy, vitality and strength."
He handed the burner to me and I lit the white candle. "White embodies purity, innocence, clarity and unity."
I handed the burner to Brenna, letting her light the pink candle. "Pink denotes devotion, love, tenderness and faith."
She passed it on to Osmound, who lit the gold candle. "Gold indicates enlightenment and protection."
Rose moved to Osmound and took the burner from him and lit the rose colored candle. "Rose represents compassion for yourself and others, higher mystical powers and humor."
She handed the burner to Trista who lit the candle in the middle of the circle. "Black cleanses you of negative energy." She looked at Trista and gave her a small smile. "It is time, Sailor Pluto." As soon as she said the words the flames on the candles flared up brightly and formed a small dome around Trista and Rose, who had transformed into Sailor Destiny. She held her hands up, palms facing the ceiling and spoke as Trista went down to her knees. "I call upon you, Moirae! Heed my plea to you! I seek to grant upon the child who was raised here among the Gods and Goddesses, the power of Time and the keeper to the key and Guardian of the Gates!"
Trista heard whispers in her ears, calling for her to stand and she slowly rose to her feet, the symbol of Pluto shining brightly on her forehead. She closed her eyes and accepted the powers surging through her body that were stripping her of her beautiful dress. A hension stick, a small pen-like object, formed in front of her and the symbol of Pluto settled on the top of it. Without opening her eyes, she snatched it in her hand and called out, "Pluto Planet Power!"
Energy flared out of the top of her pen and she turned around, holding it out so that the energy spread around her and flared up around her. She crossed her arms over her chest as it completely surrounded her and centered over her to form a red garnet stone above her head before it formed a silver staff. Her arm came up and she grasped the staff in her hand as the energy began to fade around her, revealing a fuku of a white sleeveless bodysuit with a black skirt and a lighter shade of black bow in front and in back, a red ornament in the middle of the front bow, black boots that came up to her knees with white lining, white gloves that came up to her elbow to end in black circlets, a black chocker with a red circle shaped stone hanging from it, red arrow-head shaped earrings and a gold tiara with a red stone in the middle. Pink lipstick danced across her lips and she opened her eyes. She shifted her staff around her as she turned and it lengthened and formed a key. She brought it and her other hand up before moving both down, slamming the staff on the ground as she took on her pose, her right booted-foot in front of the other and her staff held firmly in her hand.
Sailor Destiny looked a little winded but smiled proudly at her younger sister as the candles' flames died down and flickered out. She stepped forward and took one of Sailor Pluto's gloved hands in her own and turned her around. "I give you the first senshi, Sailor Pluto, the Guardian and Keeper of Time."
Everyone, including myself bowed their heads in respect to the newest member of the magical group. Then I stood up fully and came forward, taking Pluto's hand from Destiny's and led her from the circle before I embraced her, pride and happiness filling me. I knew that her life would be a little on the lonely side and it would be filled with great responsibilities. I only hoped that when the time came Trista, my baby, would turn to me for help whenever she needed it.
Pluto cupped my face and smiled at me, her eyes even more ancient looking and I knew that she was already well aware of the future, that like Rose she could see the possibilities that came up. But as her eyes softened, I knew that she would be able to handle it. We quickly made our rounds around so that everyone could congratulate her on her new status before she, Destiny and I headed to the training rooms. Each of us was anxious to see just what she was capable of and to spend time together, even if it was work.
