Love Everlasting-The Night Before
Scene 1-Serena-NY, NY-4pm
Serena smiled as the next person approached her. It had been a long day and would be a longer one still. But she kept that thought to her self and smiled and shook hands and signed her name until her fingers felt as if they would fall off. She discreetly glanced at her watch, ten minutes to four time to wrap it up. She signaled to the people behind to start crowd control and begin making it clear to her fans that time was short. At exactly four she signed the last three copies she had in her hand, snapped the last one shut and gave the crowd a smile and a heartfelt goodbye. She was immediately surrounded by her support team and escorted out. Usually she would have fused and stayed an extra 10 to15 minutes, but not today. Today was special, though tomorrow would be even more special. She had somewhere she needed to be, people to see, things to do. When she was back in her make shift room of the down town book store, she thanked her security and called it a day with her publicist. She quickly gathered her things and exited out the back door of the store. It was a warm beautiful day, so she walked tall and confident through the crowded noisy streets in her own world. After about a block she turned down an alley way, made sure no one was looking and vanished. She reappeared in her comfy townhouse. She usually didn't transport just because, but like she said today was special. She dropped all her stuff on the floor and headed to her bedroom, she'd clean up later. She sank down on the soft non- made bed and looked out the large window. What a wonderful day, what a happy day.
“Damn you Mina, you just had to go get married in the middle of my book signing season.” Serena had cut the time on the signing today, which had probably cost her at least a hundred copies. She didn't mind so much but her publicist had. They had hit that roof when they were told she was taking two days off for the wedding.
“Oh well, they'll deal. Mina, Mina, Mina getting married. Ha I would think it was a joke if it wasn't happing tomorrow. Hump tomorrow of all days, you think your slick.” Serena didn't acknowledge what tomorrow was, but let it go. Yep Mina was getting married tomorrow and tonight was the wedding rehearsal. They needed it seeing as how everyone had only communicated through phone and since five key people lived in the U.S. Tonight she was going home for the first time really in the last two years. She had been busy. Writing…forgetting…living. She was so happy for Mina she could burst, but she couldn't lie the closer the wedding came a little sadder she became.
She didn't have any separation issues. She knew Mina would always be there for her. She was just good old fashioned jealous. Mina's wedding made her think of the lack of a wedding in her own life. It didn't help that another one of them would be getting married in around seven months. Serena was pissed but happy. Shit this was making her think of him.
“Damn you Seiya Kou.” Just then she felt ten little claws sink into her lap. “Owe sorry baby, was mommy cussing.” She picked up the black cat and settled it in her lap. She had rescued Luna from a Humane Society two and a half years ago. She had been just a kitten, now she was one of Serena's best friends. “Sorry, mommy is just confused with so many emotions today, ignore me.” The black cat started to lick her paws and did just that.
That was fine with Serena, her thoughts picked up where they had left off as she continued to stare at the sun. Seiya, the real love of her life. She couldn't help but think about him from time to time. Especially times like this. In so many ways when he had left he had left her broken. In others he had help make her stronger then ever. Serena really did hate the paradox. How she had loved him, needed him. But she had finally grown up that day. She now knew that every thing you wanted, or even needed you couldn't have, so she had made do. And made do she had. By all accounts she had a wonderful life, thriving for someone her age. Incredible some would say! She had health, a dazzling career, money, a large group of true friends and a cat named Luna. Yes in deed she really needed to shut up complaining. She did have all of the above. Just one thing that Serena really needed that wasn't on that list. Something she thought everyone should have…love. Serena had no mate, no love. She dated…because she felt (really others felt) she needed to and it was fun. But she didn't have any kind of serious relationship. In fact she hadn't had one since Seiya unless you counted that one guy in college, but well that was a long story. She sighed now and knew that she was semi depressed.
“Damn it! I will not let you do this to me, I am suppose to be happy today and I will be happy today for Mina!” Luna decided quickly that she had had enough outbursts and rose, lazily walking off her lap unto the bed and fussed until she found a spot to her liking.
“Enough of this. In an hour or two I'll be so busy I won't have time to think straight. Let me get to packing.” She got up and went to her hidden closet and pulled out a small weekend travel bag. It was black and non descript except for the stitched initials of ST in the corner. She opened it laying it on the end of the bed that Luna wasn't occupying and went in search of items to throw in it. She stared with the underwear since that was always the easiest. After throwing a couple pair of plain ones in, she tossed in sexy green silk pair with matching bra for fun.
“Hey you never know a girl could need them.” She told Luna. Luna wasn't buying it though, she lifted her head off her paws and gave her a look that said “Honey please!”
“Hey have some faith it could happen.” Serena pouted at the cat. Luna rolled her eyes and laid her head back down. Serena ignored the non-believer and continued. She didn't need a reception outfit, since they would be rushed directly there from the wedding. Serena didn't mind. As much as they'd paid for the bridesmaid dresses they should get to wear them for more then an hour. So that left the real question of what to wear tonight? She threw in one conservative kicking it around the hotel outfit and one knock your socks off party outfit. Mina hadn't said or hinted at a bachelorette party, but the night would be young and the wedding wasn't early the next day. In fact it was quite late in the day actually. With Mina you never knew what to expect anyway. She added make up, jewelry, shoes and toiletries and called it a day. It was really only one damn day after all.
Her main task complete, she put the suitcase on the floor and plopped down on the bed on her back. This caused Luna to fly about and inch in the air. The cat stiffly arched her back, flicked a tail at Serena and jumped down from the bed. Hmm guess the bed wasn't big enough to share after all. Serena knew the cat was mad because she was leaving and wasn't taking her. It was a short trip and she would be back soon. Her long golden hair that had been twisted up and back today spilled off the side of the bed. She peaked at her watch hoping time had gone faster then it felt. Nope, no such luck. It was only 4:50 and she had a good hour to go. All she had to do was grab a very quick shower and put on her simple black cocktail dress for the start of the night. Throw enough food and water in the bowl for tonight and tomorrow for Luna and she was ready to go. Shoot who would have thought she would be not only on time but early. Things changed…she was rarely the one late now. No time to be late. Things to do, people to see. She figured she'd take a 15 minute power nap while she waited for the others. It was something she had learned to do on her first tour.
Scene 2-Darien-NY, NY-5:10 pm
Darien glanced at his expensive Gucci watch with little concern for the time. He had just wrapped up a medical summit where he was the featured speaker. He was used to things like that since at the tender age of 28 he was one of the youngest top doctor's in his field. He worked hard and played harder. He had to admit it felt good to be him today but then again it always did. He made a left on 5th Avenue towards his brownstone. It was a nice day and he strolled confidently down the sidewalk, hands tucked in khaki dockers. He smiled and sometimes even winked at women who gave him admiring looks. He could have been at home a long time ago with a simple thought. Unlike most of the others he didn't feel any qualms about using it. Doing so today however would have robbed him of the pleasure of seeing beautiful women in sexy summer clothes. Shaking his head and laughing at his wondering thoughts he focused on the real event of the day. Just thinking about it made me shake his head harder. Andrew his best bud was getting married and to Mina no less! The thought still blew his mind. What the hell was Andrew thinking?
Darien let his self into the house and kicked off his shoes. He had less then an hour to get packed and meet over at Serena's place. No biggie he thought as he walked over to the bar and poured himself a brandy. He knew it was early and usually he wouldn't indulge. He was usually on duty. However he was off the next couple of days and the simple fact was he wanted one. Darien rarely denied himself things he wanted. If it was for the taking he took it. Besides he needed to start his drinking early if he was going to get through tonight and tomorrow. Marriage…even the word made him shudder. Taking his glass he went over and sat on the black leather sectional that dominated his living room. He couldn't even believe that once upon a time he had seriously thought about it. That had been a long time ago…a lot of things were different then. He downed the drink in one gulp and got up.
In his bedroom he pulled out a duffle bag. He quickly tossed in some shaving items and underwear. Unlike women his choices were much easier and in five minutes he was done. He moved to his closet and here he carefully considered. Andrew didn't know it, but he was in for one killer of a bachelor's party. Darien had went all out for his best friend's last night of freedom. With Mina as his wife it really would be his last night of freedom. Darien planned on getting him so drunk that he would have to read his vows off a piece of paper. The thought brought a grin back to his face. He picked out what he thought was one of his most flattering party outfits and packed it up. With any luck Darien would be a very happy camper his self before the night was over. The clock on the bedroom wall read 5:30, time to head out. He had no animals or even plants to worry about. He kept his life dependency free and that was prefect with him. Nothing to tie him down. About to transport his cell phone rang. He glanced at the caller ID. Cindy…shit what did she want? He really should have cut her off weeks ago. She was beginning to become a nuisance.
“Hey Cindy, how's it going.”
“Not good. It would go better if I was leaving with you today.” Darien heard the whine in her voice and mentally cursed his self for ever mentioning the weekend trip to her.
“I thought we talked about this. It's my best friend wedding all the way back in Japan, this isn't a weekend up state.”
“I know, but you could afford it. I want to meet your friends.” Was she fucking crazy?
”That's exactly why I should go by myself. A lot of close friends will be there that I haven't had any quality time with in a while. Besides I'm the best man, I have certain duties and don't need any distractions.”
”Hump is that all I am to you Darien a distraction? Something to do on the weekends.”
”Hump is that all I am to you Darien a distraction? Something to do on the weekends.”
“No your not, at least not this weekend, because I'll be in Japan. Look I really have to go. I'll give you a call when I get back, maybe we can do dinner.”
“Don't bother calling me when you get back if that's all you have to say.” Darien didn't waste a second.
“Don't bother calling me when you get back if that's all you have to say.” Darien didn't waste a second.
“Suit yourself. It was nice knowing you. Take it easy.” With that he hung up the phone and took another ten seconds to delete her number from his phone. Darien was a busy important man. Everyday he held life and death in his hands. He didn't have time for games or indecision. Switching back to wedding mode he picked up his one bag and prepared to transport.
“Let's get this party started.”
Scene 3-Lita-Tokyo-6:45 pm
Today had been one of the busiest days in her life. Lita wiped the sweat off her forehead with the back of her hand. Her long auburn hair was pulled back into a severe bun. The kitchen was a flurry of activity but that was just how it should be. She kneaded the crust for the next pie with unnecessary roughness. She needed some kind of outlet for the tension that was in every part of her body. She really wanted to scream bloody murder but she thought that might scare her staff shitless and then no baking would get done, and get done it must. There was a wedding tomorrow that had to go off without a hitch.
Though Lita wasn't the bride she hadn't felt this much stress since opening her restaurant almost two years ago. She hadn't even had time to go say hi to Michelle and Amara who were staying in the hotel. I guess it's not that big of a deal I'll see them both tonight. Besides she had more pressing issues on her mind then paying old friends a visit. It was Friday night and she had left only a skeleton crew at “Jupiter's”. She had pulled the rest of her crew with her to the hotel for the reception preparations. She had been tempted to close the restaurant early on one of its busiest nights for lack of man power. Pride and a good business sense had prevailed though. She was giving bonuses to all her staff that worked today and tomorrow, so revenue would need to come in. Somehow they would pull it all together.
If she had just been catering the wedding it would be one thing, but she was also the maid of honor to a very picky and high strung bride. Mina had already called her seven times today. While she was honored by her position in the wedding she was very close to snapping Mina's lovely neck. To top it off this wedding was a chance in a lifetime to market the restaurant. Between Mina and Andrew they knew some high class important people. Seeing how it was Mina's wedding every single one of those important people had been invited. She should know since she had done the invitations. If she wasn't mistaken the guest list was somewhere close to two hundred.
So here she was in the hotel that was to be the site of the reception, sweating and working like a slave and stressed to the max. She loved this hotel, it had a kitchen that connected directly to the hall. Plus they had not minded outside contractors for a fee of course. Lita glanced around at her staff to make sure all was well. Tonight they were just doing the deserts and light trays that could hold over night. Tomorrow her staff not her self since she would be busy playing maid of honor, would prepare the main course right before the reception. Glancing at her plain but dependable watch she saw that it was nearing 7:20. Great, she needed to finish up and grab a shower then meet at the church for the rehearsal all by 8.
“Hey Sandy, can you come and finish this. I have to run.” The light haired woman who matched her name swung around and gave her a smile.
“No problem boss. Wow, you're pushing it close. You should have been out of here a long time ago. Leave for Christ's sake.”
“I'm going, I'm going. Now if there's any problems call me and you guys call it a night no matter what at 9.”
”Yeah, yeah I got it scram.” Sandy said, waving her had dismissively at her boss. Lita allowed her self a laugh. Waved at every one and walked out the swinging white double doors. She breathed in the cooler air, found a corner quickly and transported.

In her modest apartment only blocks from her restaurant she quickly stripped off her clothes letting them lay were they fell. Tall graceful and naked she walked through the house. She paused in her light orange living room to feed Albert.
“Here you go sweetie. I'll be extra rushed in the next couple of days, so you better eat while you can.” Her tropical baby, better known as Albert the fish did a couple of laps and attacked the food. She loved animals but with her schedule a fish was all she could handle. In the bathroom she let down her long hair and shook it as the water in the shower warmed up. Moments later she simple stood beneath the spray, eyes closed deep in thought.
It was really happening. For the last six months her and Mina had been busting theirs asses getting this wedding off the ground. Now it was finally here. She couldn't believe it. One of them was getting married. She supposed it was fitting that it was Mina since she was the ruled by the Goddess of Love. Tears joined the water that ran down her face. Tears of joy and bitterness. Had they really come this far? Where had the years gone? She was extremely happy for two of her closest friends. She had spent the years watching their love grow and bloom. If any two people deserved to be happy then it was them. Shit, but it made her feel like shit. Her life was good…but it was also empty. It consisted of 16 hour work days, seven days a week. It consisted of a life ruled by the restaurant and almost nothing else. Love was a grand concept. One she wanted but just didn't have enough time for. Unless they could package love on the run, she would have to miss out. It usually didn't bother her but the wedding had made her yearn for things she thought she'd left in the past.
“Fuck Lita you do not have time for a pity party. To much to do. After you get Mina married you can pity yourself for a week now move it.” The pep talk worked and she was out the shower in another five minutes.
Clean, slightly refreshed she put on a simple mid length black dress. Threw the necessities in her purse and tried to remember was she forgetting anything. They would be going out to eat after the rehearsal so that was taken care of. This might be one of the easier parts. Show up walk through it and split. Tonight she would meet the rest of the wedding party. She knew most of the characters but a few of the groom men's she was unfamiliar with. That had been one of the few tasks for Andrew to take care of and see to. That and writing the checks to foot the bills. The thought made Lita smile.
“Poor sweet Andrew. Do you really know what you're getting yourself into my friend?” Lita transported for the second time that day, something she rarely did.
Scene 4-Ami Tokyo-7:30 pm
“Shit!” Ami exclaimed as she slammed on her brakes in the heavy traffic for the third time. She pushed her aqua hair behind her ear and breathed. “You just had to drive on a Friday night. Good thinking Ami, they don't call you smart for nothing.” Traffic was heavy and to be honest she wasn't use to driving in it. In Hong Kong it was so crowded and she was so busy that it was more convenient to take public transportation. This wedding was throwing her off track in more ways then one. She moved forward in traffic and glanced at her hand on the steering wheel. Her one caret engagement ring sat happily on her finger. It was so light that she often forgot it was there. Strange considering it had been there for three months now. Who would have thought she'd be engaged. Not her, she didn't think she would ever have the time. Guess fate was funny, not that she believed in fate, but still.
“What is it about weddings that drive people mad?” She pondered out loud. So far she had yet to go batty about her own upcoming nuptials. She had flown into town yesterday and was staying at her mother's place. Her finance couldn't make it, to busy with work plus he was waiting to see if a promotion went through. He was waiting to see if he would be offered a chief of staff position at a little but well renowned hospital right here in Tokyo. Ami was hoping he would and things looked in his favor. If he got the position she would be moving back too. It would be a wonderful opportunity for both of them. She had already been offered a spot in the pediatric ward. Anyway that was neither here or now. Now she had to be part of a wedding for one of her best friends.
She had called up Lita and Mina and asked was there anything she could do. But they both had told her to relax and rest up for tonight. She had gladly taken the time to unwind. Between putting in twelve hour shifts since she was still an intern and having an actually relationship she had no down time. So last night she had taken the time to catch up with her mother something she rarely did. Her mother had wanted details about her upcoming wedding. Ami had sorely been lacking in them. She guessed it was time that she really started planning.
Her wedding would be very simple compared to Mina's. To be honest she didn't care about the details as long as it was simple and elegant. She wanted no more then fifty guests. Everyone who needed to know about the wedding knew…well almost everyone. Shaking her head she made a left and quickly rechecked her directions. Yeah, what she really needed was to pick a maid of honor who could see to the details. Let's see maybe Lita? No the poor thing had ran her self ragged with this one. Serena would be perfect but might get to fancy, plus she was so far away. Rei was so busy and stressed that the wedding might never happen if left in her care. The logical person would be Mina. Not only did she have a flare for planning but her wedding would still be fresh in her mind.
Mind made up she smiled for the first time during her drive. Now things could progress.
Ami had to admit it felt good to be back home. She was really looking forward to seeing everyone. It had been so long since they had all been together. Way to long. Most had gathered for Jupiter's opening but that had been two years ago. Ami had believed she was very independent until they had all split up to go to college. She had been surprised and dismayed to realize how much she needed her support group of good friends. Of course she never let on to anyone how lonely she used to get. Besides she'd had her reason's for leaving and it was over now. She was grown and knew how to exist outside the circle they had built around themselves. Arriving at the church she parked her mothers 99 Honda Civic and got out. She hadn't known what to wear for a dress rehearsal but didn't think it called for a dress. So instead she had on olive colored silk trousers and a slinky black short sleeved blouse. Around her throat was one of her many chokers. Her hair which was now three inches past her shoulders fell in nice natural waves around her face. Grabbing her purse she headed to the entrance and was met by Hotaru of all people.
“My goodness Hotaru it's so good to see you.” Ami embraced the teenager that was already taller then her.
“Hi Ami, it's good to see you too. Believe it or not you're the first one here besides Mina, Andrew and a couple of guys I don't know. Oh, I may have seen Lita running around, can't be sure.”
“You're kidding right? It's almost 7:45 where is every one?” The teen shrugged and looked bored. Today she had her medium length black hair pulled in a low ponytail at the base of her neck. She wore jeans a weird sweatshirt and was sporting an eyebrow ring. Ami assumed and hoped the ring would be out for the services tomorrow.
“Your mothers not here either?”
“Mom couldn't make it tonight, to much work. Besides she isn't exactly in the wedding so she got a pass.” Ami looped her arm around the girls' and they walked inside
together.
“You mean to tell me just because you're an usher Mina made you show up?”
“Yep, said had to practice, get it right blah, blah. I hope this doesn't last long, it's a Friday night, I could be out with friends.”
“Out having nice clean fun right?” Ami teased the girl. Hotaru was a model teenager, and so far had been no trouble.
“Right, good clean fun.”
“Did someone say something about fun? I don't know how clean I can keep it but I can try.” Both women turned around at the voice. A blond haired young man stood behind them grinning. He was tall and good looking and you could tell by his eyes he was looking for trouble.
“My god Sammy is it really you? You look so…so grown, come give me a hug.” He was sporting a light bread that made him look older then he was.
“Hey you don't have to ask me twice to hug a beautiful woman.” He grabbed Ami in a hug and picked her off the ground. She giggled and he finally sat her down.
“You are a mess, do those lines really work on women?”
“Yep, about half the time.” As if just noticing her he turned to Hotaru and tugged her pony tail. “Hey brat how's it going.” She immediately became frosty flicked her head and walked away. He turned to Ami with a smile.
“Was it something I said?” Ami shook her head. Sammy was still the annoying trouble maker. Something's never changed. It was those things that made her the happiest.
“Come on big head, let's go see if we can find enough people to get this rehearsal started I'm starving.”
Scene 5-Michelle & Amara-Tokyo-7:40 pm
Michelle watched absently as the scenery flew by as Amara raced up the street. It was true what they said some things never changed she thought with a wry smile. She was relaxed, sure of Amara's driving, after all she trusted her. Michelle had flown in earlier that day from Hong Kong and met Amara at the hotel. They were sharing a suite, and now were on their way to the wedding rehearsal. Leave it to Mina to talk them both into being in the wedding. Michelle would play the wedding march on her violin accompanied by Amara on piano. How Mina had pulled that one off Michelle still couldn't figure out. Amara hadn't played the piano for an audience in years. Either way it would feel good to play with Amara again. They worked well together. Then again who would have thought that Mina with her precocious self would be the first of the inners to get married?
Now Michelle frowned. It should have been Serena. Serena and …Darien. Her frown deepened with the thought of his name. Of course he would be there tonight. He was Andrew's best man. Little pieces of guilt ate at the back of her brain. Was she part of the reason that he and Serena hadn't tied the knot and by all accounts never would? She shook her head and blew out a slow breath. There was no need in beating her self up over ancient history. Besides she remembered all to well the other players in the equation. She supposed it was destiny. Everything happened for a reason, didn't it?
After that summer nothing had been the same. She and Amara had gotten back together for a year but then it had all fallen apart. The illusion they had both desperately tried to hold on to had crumbled. For two years after that they had barely spoken. Amara had been to heart broken and bitter and Michelle couldn't blame her. She herself had immersed her self in her music. Eventually they had connected again. They had forged an uneasy but true friendship over the last two years. Though they lived a world apart but kept in close contact. Michelle was closer to Amara then any of the other scouts except maybe Ami. The not so shy woman and Michelle had kept each other company many a night in Hong Kong and become good friends. Michelle had preformed all over the world, until she had excepted a position in the orchestra in Hong Kong. Michelle had grabbed at the chance to put down some roots, even if they were temporary. Any spare time she had was spent living…or trying to live to the fullest. Time was flying by to fast but in many ways to slow.
Who would have thought it would come to this. Mina married and to Andrew no less. Wonders never ceased. Anyway it would be good to see everyone. Already she had had a wonderful time catching up with Amara. She missed her close friend sometimes. Tonight she would see everyone else. It had been to long time since they had all been together. She looked forward to seeing them all especially Serena. Her princess…her friend. Though watched and protected by Darien and Rei in New York she had grown apart from them over the years. Not just in the miles that separated them but mentally. Some of it was to be expected; after all they had aged and grown as people. They had all needed to branch out and live their own lives…but still. She could see the distance in her eyes. She used her mirror to check on her from time to time and could see a sadness that would never suit Serena under the surface of a smile or laughter.
She hoped that today all she would see was happiness in her blue eyes. Most likely she would, after all one of her closest friends was getting married. However much Serena had changed she still didn't have it in her to be bitter about anyone's else happiness. She loved all her friends, always had always would. Yep something's never changed and some things never should.
Amara glanced over at the aqua haired beauty as she sighed heavily for the second time. She wished she could run her hands down her hair to sooth her. She had let it grow longer over the years so that it reached the middle of her back. She knew something was bothering her, knew her to well not to see it. She wished she would tell her what was wrong. Instead Amara pretended like she didn't know that Michelle was upset. After all she was just a friend now. That was the role she'd been living in for the last couple of years. Slightly frustrated, she gripped the wheel and took a turn to fast. She didn't know why she was speeding the hotel was only ten minutes from the church under normal driving conditions. She supposed she was annoyed by a lot of things.
One she was missing a race to be at this wedding. Not that the race was a big one but still. Two she couldn't figure out how she had let Mina talk her into being more then a spectator. She had even convinced her to wear a dress tomorrow. Well to be more accurate she had had Serena convince her to wear a dress. It was still hard to say no to Serena. Actually it was harder now…hmm go figure. Anyway she would sacrifice this one time, but damn it she wasn't doing it at Ami's wedding. She would be sure to tell Ami that as soon as she saw her.
It would be good to see all the kiddo's, not that they were kids. Sometimes it was hard to reconcile the grown, sophisticated, successful adults with the goofy but lovable kids they had been. Maybe after Mina is married she would finally be able to see them as adults. Anyway she was looking forward to seeing them. She was very happy for Mina and Andrew was a nice guy so she didn't imagine that in a few years she would have to break his neck. This wedding had another good angle, it allowed her to spend time with Michelle. Apparently she still wasn't quite over her past companion. They rarely saw each other in person though they talked often. Amara had paid her a visit last year but had cut it short once she realized that she was jealous of every guy who looked her way. You would think I would be used to the idea after all these years. When they had broken up five years ago Michelle had told her out right that she liked men and only men now.
To say she had been shocked was an understatement, try devastated. Michelle had tried to tell her it hadn't been her, that her feelings had just changed, but she hadn't wanted to listen. Over time she had accepted it or rather she thought she had, hell she didn't know what she was feeling. This damn wedding was stirring up feelings that were best left alone. Amara didn't have time for any complications in her life. From time to time she had a woman in her life, but they were temporary and knew it. Her main interest was racing. That was her number one lover now. That and the small fitness/dojo that she ran, everything else took a back seat. She lived in the States now in Chicago, where she could make racing a career. She would be glad when this was over so she could get her life back to normal. So all these conflicting feelings could fade.
“You know Amara, I'd like to get to the church alive if that's okay with you.” Michelle's light and sarcastic tone broke through her wondering thoughts. She turned and gave her friend a flippant smile.
“I'll see what I can do about that request. Relax another minute and we'll be there.”
“Humph I never knew you to get so excited over weddings.”
“I'm not. Frankly I think there a pain in the ass. People should just elope and save their loved ones the misery. You on the other hand I can tell this is getting to you.” Sensing an opening Amara took it and hoped Michelle would open up.
“I don't know what you mean? I love weddings and this one is special.”
“Yeah it's special all right. Who would have thought Mina would find someone to put up with her shit long enough to fall in love with her.”
“Well you know what they say, there's one person out there for everyone.”
“Only one huh? Then that's a damn shame for some people.” Michelle didn't answer Amara cryptic comment. She knew what she was referring too, but refused to acknowledge it. It was apparent that some old wounds were still open. Right now she had her own wounds to worry about, Amara's would have to wait.
Scene 6-Rei NY, NY-5:15 pm
Rei glanced at her office clock and rolled her dark eyes. “Shit I need to get out of here in twenty tops. There is never enough time in a day.” She was trying to finalize this marketing ad before she left. Technically she had time to finish when she got back but something was telling her to finish it now. Just a couple more tweaks and it would be perfect. Her manicured fingers flew over the computer keys. She was tired and cranky but that was nothing new. She been in the office since 7:30 this morning just to make sure she had all her ducks in row before she headed out of town, before she headed home. That brought a quick smile to her face, though it was wiped off by the ringing of her phone.
“What now?” Picking up the phone she barked out a greeting. “Rei Hino speaking, what can I do for you in ten minutes or less?” It was the production studio for a commercial that was suppose to be shooting right now. There were a couple problems with the product and the set design.
“Look, these sound like easily handled problems so why are you calling me? Where is the producer? You get paid to handle problems like this….do I have to come hold your freaking hand.” Rei was fuming as she paused to listen to the excuses.
“No that is not acceptable. I have a plane to catch to Japan in less then an hour. My clients were assured that the spot would be done today. Did you hear that today, not tomorrow, or any other day. Now I expect a call today saying it's done. I don't want to hear anything else but it's done. If I hear anything besides it's done, then I will feel forced to hop back on a plane and cause havoc for you and your company. Because when you look bad, I look bad and that can not be allowed to happen. Now let me let you go so that you can start on making those magical words `it's done' come true. Goodbye.”
Rei slammed the phone back on her desk and was about to start a string of cursing when she heard clapping behind her.
“That as always was impressive. I think I have a woody just from listening to it.” Rei gritted her teeth and turned back to her report. She knew who the voice belonged too. Mark was an associate like her. They were currently competing for the VP spot that was suppose to be filled in a couple of months. Rei was determined to get it, but so was he.
“It's no wonder you're up for the VP spot you know how to get business done.” Now she turned and gave him her “fuck you” smile.
“What can I do for you Mark, that doesn't involve harming you? Since you were ease dropping I'm sure you heard I have to get out of here soon, hell now, so spit it out.”
“Actually that's what I came to talk to you about. Just wanted to let you know that while your gone if you want me to take over any of your accounts I can do that for you.” Rei cocked an eye brow and widened her fuck you smile. He must be out of his cotton picking mind. Hell would freeze over before she willing gave him one of her accounts to even proof read.
“Oh how kind of you. I'll keep that in mind. Thanks.” Rei turned back to her computer and forgot him. In three minutes she finished up her report, printed it out and started shutting down her comp. She stood up and stretched in the gray business suit when the whistle alerted her to the still present visitor.
“Rei when are you going to stop playing hard to get and let me take you out? I'm a nice guy seriously. I know how to keep work and play separate I promise.” Rei turned and gave him a steely look.
“Oh I bet you do Mark, I'm sure you've had plenty of practice. See the problem is I don't know how to separate it. I take everything personally. I'm enrolled in a support group now to work on that.” He shook his head. She was so fucking smart mouthed he didn't even know why he bothered.
“Whatever. How long will you be gone on your trip?” Rei had stapled her report and was picking up her coat and briefcase. The nerve of this fucker.
“Last time I checked you didn't sign my pay checks, so the answer to your question is none of your business. Now would you kindly get out of my office so I can lock up.” Rei could see the temper come over his face and she didn't care. He had no right to question her on any damn thing.
“Fine I can take a hint. See ya.” He turned and walked out the door, and Rei ever the attentive one heard him murmur “Cold bitch” under his breath. She didn't reply, just balled her fist and finished closing her office. It wasn't the first time she'd been called a bitch and it probably wouldn't be the last. Fuck it. Locking her office she walked down the almost empty halls to the restroom. She was tired, tired of a lot of shit. She had taken the subway in but because of the time and the fact that she just didn't feel like it, she would be transporting home. In the last stall, she closed her eyes and thought of home. She lived about three miles from Serena in her own townhouse.
Finding her self in her bedroom she dropped everything and went straight for the shower. Under the almost too hot to stand spray she quickly washed not allowing her mind to think. There was no time to think just act, time was wasting. Finished she stepped out and towel dried her short hair. Right out of college she had cut it to a shoulder length bob. It made her look older and made people take her more seriously. She picked out her favorite scent of strawberries and quickly rubbed her entire body. She always made time to take care of herself no matter what. It was one of the little rituals that made her feel good about herself, kept her going when she felt like shit. So far today had been a shitty day.
She felt so tired and knew she had a long night ahead of her. None of the others knew it, but she had taken it upon herself to plan a surprise bachelorette party for Mina. None of her friends knew what was coming. They were going to party their asses off if she had to force every last one of them to do it. Thinking about seeing all her friends brought a true smile to her face. It had been so long, no time, no time. It was all she could do to get her once a month phone call in to each of them. They were all so busy, so consumed with just trying to live day by day. Thinking about her friends turned her thoughts to Serena.
Over the years the bond between them had only grown stronger, as had all their powers. Rei was connected to them all, but to Serena the most. Even across the ocean she could tell when the blond was upset, mad, sad whatever the case may be. Today she had felt some sadness, though Serena had covered it up quickly. She wondered what was bothering her? Was it the wedding or something else? Maybe she was bummed because she would be turning 24 tomorrow. Yes Mina had picked Serena's birthday for her wedding day. Maybe that's all it was, maybe she was feeling her age. Anyway, she'd talk to her about it later if she could find some time. Go figure, Mina had always been a weird one. Mina… Jesus she was getting married in under 24 hours. Rei was so happy for her she could burst. She ignored the burning sensation in her stomach that was envy. After all there was no time for envy. Nope no time. Glancing at her watch she saw that time was in short supply.
Her bags were already packed. She had packed them this morning since she knew she would be running close to the wire. She looked at her briefcase and debated if she should take it. It was only two days, really one, did she really need to take it? Hell would she have any time to look over anything? Again something told her she should take it and she put the bag next to the others. She took a minute to look at herself in the mirror. She had picked out her outfit on purpose, for one specific purpose that had a name. Chad. She wanted him to look at her and have a heart attack on the spot. She would then prevent anymore from giving him CPR in the hopes that he would die. Yep this outfit should do it. She had on a simple black dress that just happened to have a deep V that showed the nice round inside curve of her breasts. The dress fit like a second skin to the waist then flared out into a soft skirt that didn't even reach her knees. Around her neck she had a simple silver chain that fell in the valley of her breast to draw all attention that way. On her pouty lips she had fire engine red lipstick. Lips to die for one man had told her. And when he had drunkenly tried to take a kiss he almost had.
Yep, that bastard Chad would be there, he was in the wedding party. She had not seen him in person in the last two years. Of course that was okay since she had seen him on every magazine and T.V. show there was. Hell when you talked about entertainment for more then 20 minutes his name was bound to come up.
“Don't let him get to you. You want him to want you but you don't want him, got that?” She tossed her hair a couple of times and went to stand by her bags. “Lets get this show on the road.” She transported to Serena's house with barely a thought the connection between them being so strong. She found herself standing in the living room. Darien looking as handsome as every stood with a drink in his hand and Serena was trying to shoo Luna out the way.
“Hey sorry I'm late.” The two looked up and smiled at her. All three of them were very close. Living in the same city had helped, plus their history was so connected. Darien sat down his drink and walked over to her.
“Mmmm is it my imagination or do you look hotter each time I see you.”
“I don't know could be, or it could be the drinks I see you've started on already.”
“Hey give a man a break, I've already had my lecture from Serena. You know it's not everyday a man losses his best friend. I have right to be depressed.” Rei shook her head, Darien could be such a character. She didn't remember exactly when he had become so dramatic and funny, but she played along.
“Oh you poor baby, come give mama a hug and I'll make it feel better.” They looked at each other with laughter in their eyes and Darien gave her a hug and something else.
“Darien if you don't get your hand off my ass, you're really going to be depressed. I'm having a bad day.” Darien immediately removed both his hands from her and backed away. He knew not to play with Rei when she was in a mood.
“Hey sorry, didn't mean any harm. I just figured you had got all extra sexy for me. I mean who else would you go to all this trouble for.”
“I can think of one person.” Serena finally spoke up. She had been having fun watching the interplay between her close friends. Darien had picked up Rei's bags and was walking back towards Serena where their stuff was already together. Now he gave her a smile.
“Oh yeah, that guy, what's his name….hmmm Chad.” Rei commanded her self not to blush and walked over to join them.”
“I don't know what you're talking about. I couldn't care less that Chad is going to be there tonight.” Behind her back Serena and Darien smiled at each other. Rei wasn't fooling anyone but her self.
“Well that's good Rei, cause I forgot to tell you something. Lita told me Chad won't be there tonight, he had to finish a concert in Detroit that he just couldn't get out of. He and the band will be flying in tomorrow for the wedding.” Rei almost had to bite her tongue to keep from turning around and shaking Serena. Fuck I did all this for nothing. With extreme calm, that she had fought for and learned over the years, she spoke in a nonchalant voice when she said.
“Whatever. Shouldn't we be going? It's 7:55 I bet Mina is having a fit wondering were we are.”
“You are absolutely right. Okay, shoo Luna away I don't want to take her with us on accident. Here we go.” With a blink of her dancing blue eyes all three were gone along with their luggage. Luna cautiously approached the spot the humans had just occupied and sniffed. Humans were so strange sometimes she thought. Oh well, might as well go take a nap since there was no one to annoy.
Scene 7-Mina Tokyo-7:45 pm
Mina brushed her long wavy hair out of her face. She should have put it up somehow but she hadn't felt like fussing with it. She had more important things on her mind then her hair. She paced back and forth in the room she would spend preparing for her wedding tomorrow.
“Jeez this can't be happing. I think I'm going to be sick.”
“Try to get in the trash this time.” Mina whirled around as her husband to be walked up to her. He was gorgeous. His blond hair was cute close and conservative as his occupation demanded. His body had buffed up over the years. He was no longer skinny and overworked, but muscular and overworked. As he wrapped him arms around her waist she stood on her toes to give him a long deep kiss.
“I'm not going to be sick, I think.” No one but him and maybe Lita knew how nervous she had been in this last month as things came to a head. Marriage was huge, marriage was forever, marriage was scary. “After all I'm Mina Hnio, glamorous and sophisticated. I don't get sick.”
“Yeah tell that to the carpet in the living room. I bet your fans would get a kick out of that. Are you sure you're okay? Why don't you sit down.” Mina slipped out of his arms and started her pacing all over again.
“I'm to jumpy to sit down. Who all is here?” Andrew looked at his lovely fiancé. She was beautiful and the love of his life. He hated to see her so edgy. He was having a hard time comforting her when he needed to down a bottle of Jack Daniels his damn self.
“Um let me think. Ami, Hotaru, Amara and Michelle just arrived. Everyone from my side is here except Darien and Chad but you know he's coming tomorrow. Sammy's here and as you know Lita is running around making sure everything will be ready to start in ten minutes.”
“I know Lita's been a life saver. Okay so were really just waiting on Serena, Rei and Darien. What could be taking them so long?” He stopped her, cupped her face and gave her a quick peck on the lips.
“Relax you know they'll be here. Besides you know Darien likes to make an entrance, Rei too for that matter.”
“I know, I know. They claim I'm the drama queen but put those two in a room and it's drama for days.”
“True but you're still the number one drama queen on my list.” Mina gave him a playful pinch on the butt which just made him smile.
“Oh shut up. But what about Serena?”
“What about her. You know she would never in a million years let you down. None of them would.”
“Okay your right. I guess you are good for something after all. I'm okay. Now get out of here and go help Lita.” He tugged at her hand as he turned to the door.
“Come with me, you still haven't met my brother or said hello to everyone yet.”
“I know, I know. I will but I just want everyone to be here. Plus I really need the extra minutes to settle my nerves. This is worse then an audition.”
“Don't worry it's up to me and I say you can have the part of my wife.” That made her smile.
“Seriously I'm fine, I'll be out in a little bit.”
“Okay, but in five I'm coming back to get you.”
“Deal.” He kissed her on the forehead then walked out the door closing it behind him. Mina sighed and finally took a seat in front of the mirrored dresser. She had been questioning herself over the last few days over everything. From the color of the invite to the stockings she would wear. Had she invited enough people the right people? Did they order enough flowers, would the cake be big enough, would anyone come to her reception? So many little but significant things to worry about. Luckily there were a few things that she didn't even have to think about. Like the fact that she knew the food would be wonderful if Lita had to kill her self to do it and the fact that she was doing the right thing by marrying the love of her life. Those two things she could be sure of. Her three missing friends were another matter. She knew they would be here, she just couldn't believe how close they were cutting it.
“Chill out Mina, it's only the rehearsal. As long as they get here and are on time tomorrow it doesn't matter.” What she said was logical, but your brain didn't do logical well the day before your wedding. However, it did do insane, paranoid and scared shitless quit well. For some reason she just felt that if tonight didn't go right neither would tomorrow. After all she just wanted what every bride wanted for everything to be perfect. And it was up till now. Most of that was due to Lita. Lita had been a god send. Mina would have literally lost her mind months ago if it wasn't for her energetic and
stable friend.
“God I love them all so much. I just want them all to be here for this moment in my life. I want them to be happy like I am.” Hear lat the main problem that was the truth behind why Mina was extra nervous. Over the years everyone had become so scattered so busy, herself included. Getting married had made her realized how much ever one meant to her. She was glad her wedding would be pulling them all together again. Maybe some old bonds would be strengthened in the days ahead. She just wanted everyone to be happy, to be in love like she was. Which brought her back to wondering if she was doing the right thing? Not only was her wedding going to be over the top, but she had a couple of tricks up her sleeves for her friends. Yes in deed some tricks that some people might not find very funny.
“Please forgive me Serena, but I can't stand the sad look in your eyes. I hope you forgive me to Ami, but damn it you need to start living life instead of just walking through it.” She put her head in her hands and took a deep breath. More then those two would probably end up angry at her, hell probably everyone, her husband included. He had no clue about the first trick she was going to pull come early tomorrow morning. No one did. The idea had been one of her random daring stupid ideas. The kind that always got her in hot water. This time was no different.
The idea had come to her two months ago when she had been in Hong Kong for a commercial shoot for an upcoming movie. She had dropped by to visit with Ami. She would have visited with Michelle to but her troupe had had a gig out of town that weekend. So it had just been her and Ami chilling at her apartment catching up. She had asked Ami could she log on to her computer to say hi to Andrew. Sometimes the easiest way to reach him when she was out of town was email. He was always working and tended to ignore the phone, but not an email. Ami had left her alone and she had been signing off when she noticed a certain stationary on the computer desk. It was Taiki's gift he had given her before he had left six years ago. Then the idea had stuck her. Back in the living room she had asked Ami about it.
“So Ames have you told Taiki about your engagement yet?” Her shorter friend had dropped the pillow she had been picking up and turned to face her with her mouth open.
“I… I not yet, I haven't got around to it.”
“Don't you usually write him every three months? I bet he'll get a kick out of knowing there will be two weddings.”
“Um well right. He sure will, seeing as how I never got around to mentioning yours.” Now Mina hiked up an eyebrow as she sat down on the navy blue couch.
“Oh, no biggie you can tell him whenever you do write the next letter. I was wondering why you hadn't shared any news about them lately.”
“Yeah well, you know, everything has been so hectic. I haven't had much time to do anything much less write an old friend a letter. But I will right after your wedding. I'll take some time and fill him in on all the details. I'm sure every one will be happy to hear you're married.”
“You think? I'm sure everyone will be happy to hear about you too. Anyway how long did you say it takes a letter to reach planet Kinmokusei? I know you've told us, but you know me, probably wasn't paying attention.” Ami wasn't a fool. She narrowed her eyes and looked at Mina closely? What was going on in her mischievous head?
“It takes a maximum of 12 hours. Sometimes less but never more. Taiki and I tired to figure out why it's less sometimes, but we never did. Anyway why are you asking?”
“Oh, I was trying to figure out how soon I could expect a wedding present if you write them right after the wedding. It would be so cool do get something from Kinmokusei don't you think?” Ami smiled she should have know Mina was thinking about gifts. They had let the subject go and talk had turned to other things.
Now Mina sat looking at herself in the mirror and pulled out the sheet of gold paper she had stolen from her friend that day. On it were the words that could potentially make every one hate her and worse screw up peoples lives. She folded it and slipped it into the matching gold envelope. She wouldn't turn back now, just like there was no turning back once she walked down the isle tomorrow. She was taking the risk and taking her friends along with her for better or for worse.
“Please God let it be for the better or I'm a dead woman.”
“Is that any way to talk the day before your wedding?” Mina deftly slipped the letter back into her purse while at the same time turning to face the voice.
“Well it's about damn time. Where the hell have you guys been?” She said in a mock irritated voice. The huge smile on her face belied the tone. Behind her stood Serena, Darien and Rei, their luggage scattered around them.
“Yeah well your lucky were here.” Rei shot back smiling just as hard. Damn it felt good to take pot shots at Mina. Serena stepped forward and shook her head.
“You two never stop. Sorry were almost late but we made it. So let's get this party started.” Serena gave Mina a real smile a smile that reached her eyes and Mina wanted to cry. Another symptom of getting married tears for no damn reason. Darien pretended to frown as he looked around the room.
“Yeah let's get started. I'm anxious to see Andrew, I want to make sure you haven't put the ball and chain on him yet.” Rei punched him in the shoulder, as Mina launched herself out her chair at them. Crashing into them like the eighteen year old her would have done she tried to hug them all at once.
“I'm so glad you guys are here. Now every thing will be perfect.”
Scene 8-Chad Detroit-MI 6pm
The lead singer of the “Zodiacs” lounged in the plush dressing room waiting until the band was called on stage. Rob who played the drums sat across from him tapping out a tune with his sticks.
“Dude it sucks that we had to finish. I know you really wanted to go to the wedding thing.” Lee the keyboardists spoke up from the mirror where he was applying the zodiac sign of the Libra on his on his chest with red paint.
“Hey it's cool man. It was just the rehearsal. After we get back to NY we can fly out tomorrow morning and be there in plenty time for the wedding. It's probably better this way, wouldn't want to disappointment the fans.”
“Yeah but it would have been nice to go back home early. We haven't been in a couple of years.” Spike the base guitarist bellowed out. He could never talk quietly to save his life.
“Yeah I know, but we'll get there tomorrow. It will be good to go on the old stomping grounds again.”
“You can say that again. It was nice of Mina to invite us all.”
“You know Mina Lee. To her the more the merrier.”
“I wish I knew Mina if you know what I mean. Boy did you ever hang around with some hot chicks.” Now Rob sent Chad a sly look.
“Yeah that's right. I'm sure you'll be glad to see Rei tomorrow, what's it been two years?” The room fell silent and Chad didn't even bother to look over at Rob.
“Yeah two years, and if I had my way it would be two more. But yeah she'll be there no big deal.”
“You sure about that?”
“Yeah I'm sure, isn't it time to get on stage.” The other three exchanged looks. They knew when Chad was stalling. Luckily for Chad he was saved by the bell. A stage hand came in and told them they had ten to get in place. They got up and went back stage. Chad stood on an elevated lift that would come down amid lights and fire works. In the mean time he was alone for five minutes to think. He stood in a leather vest that hung open to show his zodiac sign painted on his chest. Semi-permanent tattoo's of all the signs lined both arms. On his left bicep was black bandana that he wore always. It hid a tattoo that he never showed anyone. No one knew what it was, not even his band members. Not even the occasional groupie that found their way and stayed in his bed from time to time. Rob was the “Snake”, Lee was the “Dragon”, Spike was the “Ox “and he was the “Tiger” of the zodiac and the black armband that hid a secret fascinated fans and media alike. There was one tattooist on the east side of New York who knew, but he had been as drunk as Chad when he had done it.
He was excited to get back to Japan for several reasons. He was happy for Mina and Andrew and honored that he had been asked to be a part of their wedding. He was also was happy to see the rest of the gang. For some it had been three to four years since he had last seen them. It would be good to really catch up with everyone. And of course there was Rei. Then again there was always Rei, digging at the back of his mind. Rei the dark haired temptress of his fantasies or nightmares depending on how you thought of it. They had probably already started the rehearsal with out him. He wished he could be there. He wished he could do a lot of things. Then again that was all wishful thinking. The life of a rock star wasn't all it was cracked up to be. The music and the fans took over your life. The interviews, the signings, the performing, and videos it never ended. There was always something next. He had made a lot of sacrifices to get where he was at. Some had been worth it others hadn't but nevertheless he had made them.
Rei had been one of them. He still didn't know if she had been worth it or not. He and Rei were like oil and water, they didn't mix. It was always a battle with her. In the end he hadn't had enough energy to battle with her and pursue his music to the fullest. Now he had his music and no Rei.
“Probably better that way. For both of us.” He knew seeing her would be hard. So maybe the extra day would give him the balls he needed. Fighting the instant lust he felt whenever he saw her was the easy part. It was surviving her whip lash of a tongue that always got him. Boy could she hold a grudge. Rei could make a man wish he had never been born. Unwittingly a smile slipped on his face and the lift started to slowly lower. He wondered would Rei be happy or disappointed that he hadn't been able to make it tonight. Knowing her she wouldn't be either. Just pissed that she had been cheated out of more hours to brow beat him. The thought had a chuckle escaping his throat. Just then he heard the ten second countdown begin in his earpiece. It was time for the show. He steadied his self and focused. He had fans out there that wanted a show. They hadn't paid for a rock star who was distracted by thoughts of a dark haired feisty woman. No they wanted the Tiger and the Tiger they would get.
Scene 9-Trista-Tokyo-8:15pm
Trista rubbed her eyes and stretched. She dropped her pen on the oak desk in disgust. Since she was alone she leaned back and with her hands behind her head, as at least twenty thoughts ran through her head. She was tired but that was nothing new. She was used to long hours as the Dean of the College of Science. She had taken over the position two years ago and hadn't had a moments rest since. A tiny smile came over her composed face, she loved her job, though she loved teaching more. Somehow she found time to teach a once a night, night class in the fall and winter. She sighed and thought it was time to get back to work. Lowering her arms her eyes caught the time on her watch.
The rehearsal dinner had started fifth teen minutes ago. Disgusted again she got up and went to the bay window to look out into the evening. She felt bad for not going tonight. She'd had her reasons. One was exactly as she had told Hotaru that she had to much work today.
The other reasons were not so simple. Two months ago she had started having time dreams. In them she felt that something was about to change the time line. Usually she got glimmers of events or whole scenes, this time she'd had nothing. All she had this time was a feeling. A strong feeling. In her dreams she would go through all the emotions. Hate, love, trust, betrayal, passion, lust, vengeance, loyalty and many more. She had no clue who these feelings belonged to or how they would effect the time line of the scouts she just knew that they would.
She was disturbed the most by the fact that these were not actual visions. She had spent many a night thinking about what they could mean and had finally came up with one conclusion. That whatever was going to happen involved her directly, emotionally. That had never happened before where the future had been completely bared from her…it frightened her. That was an emotion that she was not used to. She had no clue what could be the catalyst for this event but had a pretty good idea…Mina's wedding. Pounding a fist on the glass window she let out a sound of frustration.
“Please don't let anything go wrong with Mina's wedding. She deserves happiness.” Every time she had this emotional vision it left her drained. She'd had one this morning, not a good sign the day before the wedding. She wished that this vision would at least leave her with a conclusion of whether or not everything would turn out all right. She shook her head and put both palms to the window. She felt disloyal for fearing what was to come.
“Serena.” After all she knew that no matter what Serena would make everything okay. She was destined to be Queen Serenity. For years she had never lost faith in her queen not once… but now. She felt danger for Serena, not physical but well mental danger. What the hell could it be?
“I'll just have to keep a close eye on her and the others too.” Thinking of Serena made her feel ashamed. This was the first time she had been in town in almost three years, not to mention the others and she was sitting at home. “I'll see her tomorrow.” Yes but you could have seen her tonight. And would you have told her about your visions? She hated doubting herself, besides it served no purpose or solved anything. Turning she bent back to her desk and picked up her pen and the grant she had been reviewing. Her life had become so hectic and with this threat looming it would become more so. There was barely time to think much less to do all the duties she had. There was her demanding job. Then there was her more important job of being the Guardian of Time. Which she had become complacent in the long years of peace. To top it off she felt recently that she was lacking in her most important job as a mother.
Hotaru had grown up fast, or at least it seemed that way. She was a bonifide teenager now and Trista was waiting for the other shoe to drop. So far she was sweet and mostly mild mannered…but that could all change overnight in a teenager's world. She was proud of Hotaru. The young woman was mature and steadfast. Smiling she tried to push all the worries she had to the back of her mind. After all there was nothing she could do about Hotaru growing up, or the future changing, but she could finish looking at her work, so she would do what she could do and leave the rest for another day.
Scene 10-After the Rehearsal-9:15pm
They stood together in the parking lot of the church. The wedding party that would help make the day special tomorrow. Besides the usual there was the rest of Andrew's groom men's. There was Roger, Andrew's business partner. They had worked together before going into business with each other. Then there was surprise, surprise Andrew's older bother Alex. That was a long complicated story. He had grown up in the states and this was one of the few times they had been together.
“Okay it's time to eat!”
“Where are you guys going to eat?” Hotaru asked.
“To Classic's, Lita's old stomping grounds. And what do you mean `where are we going' your going too.” Hotaru stuffed her hands in her jeans and pouted.
“Um I would love to but I already made plans. I was going to call my mom and head out.”
“You don't have to do that brat, I'm leaving myself I can drop you off.” Sammy said from behind her. Now Serena grabbed him around the neck and squeezed.
“Where are you off to? I was looking forward to grilling you all night about your personal business.” Sammy squirmed out of her grasp and tried not to blush.
“Chill out sis. It so happens that my personal life is just that…personal. Besides while I would love to hang with you, I have a hot date tonight.”
“Well we wouldn't want to get in the way of that now would we.” Mina said and gave him a wink. Now he did blush. He thought he might still have a slight crush on the blond of his childhood dreams. Hotaru snorted and he frowned at her.
“Come on brat we need to get going.”
“Hold your horses, remember you offered me a ride.” Hotaru begin giving everyone goodbye hugs ending with Mina.
“Tomorrow is going to be so cool I'm so happy for you.”
“Thanks kid. You tell your mother when you get home to drag her ass out and meet us for dinner. Tell her that Serena said she won't take no for an answer.”
“Mina stop using my name to get your way.”
“Hey whatever works.” Serena let it go. It was true that if Trista thought Serena said it they would have a better chance of the lovely timekeeper coming out. She told Sammy she would talk to him later and to tell mom and dad that she'd be home sometime tonight. The two teenagers headed out and everyone split up to head to the restaurant.

In Sammy's Toyota Tundra Hotaru sat with arms cross trying to ignore the pain in the ass that was Serena's brother.
“So kid do you really have plans or did you just not want to hang out with the grown ups?” Hotaru rolled her eyes. The nerve of this guy never ceased to amaze her.
“What's it to you? But since were asking do you really have a hot date, or was that a bunch of hot air?”
“Prickly. It just so happens that I do. This chick named Pam that I've been trying to get to give me the time of day. She finally agreed to go out with me.”
“Yeah? Well good luck. With your personality you're going to need it.” They were nearing her house and now Sammy turned and looked at her. She had a slight grunge look going today, but he knew that it was just one of the many styles that she wore. Hotaru changed day by day.
“What's up with you? Why are you always biting my head off? What did I ever do to you?” Hotaru's mouth dropped open.
“You're kidding right? Every time I have the bad fortune to run into you, you tease me or call me a brat or a kid. I don't know if you've noticed but I'm neither of those things and I don't like being called names by some cocky guy who's not that older then me.”
“Is that all? Stop being so sensitive I was just kidding around.” Now he glanced at her again and slowing ran his eyes up and down her body. “And to set the record straight I have noticed that you're not exactly a kid. I notice a lot of things.” He turned away and pulled into her drive. Hotaru had watched the way his eyes had roamed over her. He hadn't been kidding then. She didn't like it. Didn't know what to do with it.
“Well if you don't want me to take shots at you then you should stop messing with me.” Now he gave her an impish smile and the seriousness was gone from his eyes.
“Why would I want to take away all my fun?” Hotaru shook her head and turned away.
Sammy just smiled harder. “Hey look, here's what we'll do. We'll call a truce for the wedding. I promise no more smart comments for the remainder of the weekend deal?” He held out a hand to her and she turned around and looked into his shinning light brown eyes.
“Okay fine deal. And I'll try not to take everything so personally.” They shook on it and she got out the car. “Thanks for the ride. Good luck on your date. I mean it.”
“Thanks I am definitely hoping to get lucky tonight.” At her frown he just laughed. “You have a good time too up in your room reading. Bye kid.” Before she could retaliate he raced out the drive way and was gone.
“Jerk.” She called out to the dust he left behind. She turned and headed to the door. How the hell did he know she had been lying? She had just wanted to relax and be alone. One of her weird teenage mood swings had come over her sometime during the rehearsal. She shook it off and opened the door calling out.
“Mom! I got a message from Serena for you!”

At Classic's the group sat around and laughed and joked. Everyone slipped back into familiarity with ease. Trista had arrived just after every one had placed their order. She had walked in cool and composed in black slacks and a purple silky blouse. Her hair was the same length and fell to her calves. The only difference was that she no longer had any bangs. Her hair off set her mature and wise eyes. Making her look mature but extremely sexy. They had all enjoyed themselves immensely. Ami told everyone about her fiancé and apologized for him not being able to make it. Rei told them to keep their fingers crossed that she got a promotion. The night was filled with filling in the blanks of their lives.
Mina sat happily in the middle of all this and thought “this is how it should be…always.” She felt more sure about the step she would take later. As she was thinking it Rei got a call on her cell phone.
“Excuse me everyone, I have to take this. It's someone I chewed out earlier.” She got up and made her way to the rest room area.”
“Rei speaking…Todd tell me the words I want to hear? Great I knew you could do it. That's why we love doing business with you guys. I'll schedule for another project to be completed at the end of the month through your studio. I want you personally to work on it. I'll look forward to telling the producer how much help you were…great. Thanks again bye.”
Rei closed her phone with a satisfying click. As always the job had got done. She glanced at her watch it nearing 10:45 time to get another and more important job done. She walked back to the table with a huge smile on her face.
“Okay Darien I think it's time.” Everyone turned to Rei wondering what she was talking about. Darien took his cue and joined her at the head of the table. He checked his watch and saw that time had flown by. It was indeed time to get started on the main event of the night. He started his spill.
“Okay ladies and gentlemen. While we have had a wonderful time so far it is time to really get this celebration started.” Rei took over as if they had rehearsed it.
“Right, while we all know that Darien is the best man, and though I'm not the bridesmaid I took it upon myself, no offense Lita your not exactly a party animal, to put together a bachelor's and bachlorette party for you guys.”
“Hey I do take offense to that.” Lita spoke out though there was laughter in her eyes.
“No you can't. I already called “no offense”. Me and Darien put our naughty heads together and have planned the ultimate night for you guys.”
”Yes and seeing as how my head is naughtier then Rei's the men's party will be the best.” This got a couple of cheers out the men at the table. There's two limo's outside waiting to take each group to your destinations. Every one who drove tonight put your keys in the middle of the table. You won't need them, plus by the time we get through with you, you won't be able to drive. Your cars will be dropped off at your respective places.”

“Hot damn I knew it!” Mina shouted. She was up and shaking her butt. “Okay okay, I'm ready let's go.”
“Hold up, you're kind of excited aren't you?” Andrew stood up and faced his bride to be. “Are you sure you won't have a problem with this. God only knows what Darien has planned.”
“Are you kidding me? I wouldn't have it any other way. Go on have your fun. I plan on having mine.”
“That's the sprit Mina.” Rei egged her on.
“Um I'm not really dressed for this.” Ami spoke up. She should have known that this wedding wouldn't go off quietly.
“No problem. Will swing you by to pick up something else if you really want but you are going end of discussion.” Rei wasn't taking no for an answer.
“Well, it sounds wonderful, but a little to much for me. I will be going home, but this was great and I'll see you guys tomorrow.” Trista said with finality in her voice that on one argued with.
“Yeah I think I will head out with Trista, maybe I'll go by her place and bug her for a while.” That was Amara no one was surprised that she was opting out.
“What about you Michelle, what's its going to be?” Rei asked eyebrow hiked.
“Well, I can't think of any reason not to I'm in.”
“It's settled. Let's blow this joint.”
“Hey you didn't ask me?” Rei looked at Serena as if she had grown two heads.
“I know you don't have a choice either, so I didn't bother to ask.”
The group gathered up their stuff and headed out to the waiting limo's where the night was young.

Hotaru had waited until her mother dressed and left before she went out. Sammy had been wrong in his assumption that she would be in her room reading like some nerd. She had took out her eyebrow ring and transformed into Sailor Saturn and headed to her favorite spot in the city. She stood atop the roof of the TV station in down town. As Sailor Saturn she could see down to the street and watched the people and traffic go by. This had become her favorite spot after her father had died four years ago. He had never completely recovered from being possessed by Phrorah 90 agent of darkness and his health begin to fail. It was never that bad, but he always seemed to be under the weather. Then one day he had a massive heart attack at the University while she was at school.
She had come home to find the extremely sober Trista waiting for her. After she had heard the news she had ran away. Trista being forever efficient had already contacted all the scouts that were still around. When they found out that she had ran away they looked for her for two days. In the end Sailor Pluto had found her on this very roof. Hotaru remembered the day like it was yesterday.
She had sat legs drawn up face buried in her lap, when a soft but strong voice had said.
“Don't you think it's time?” She hadn't bothered to look up since she had heard the voice all her life.
“Go away. I just want to be alone.” She had heard movement as the Soldier of time walked over and sat down beside her, close but not touching.
“I know. That's why I pretended not to be able to find you until now, to give you some time. But it has been long enough.”
“You don't get it. He's gone. He's all I had. It's not fair. I lost him once to that demon and now I've lost him for good.”
“Hotaru I know this is hard.” The dark headed child had snapped her head up and glared at the closest thing to a mother she had ever had.
“You don't understand anything! Stop acting like you know me. You don't your not my mother! You're not my family he was!” Pluto's eyes only softened as they looked into the wild eyes of the grieving girl. Then she stood up and her eyes cooled.
“Hotaru you are wrong in so many things. I and all the scouts are not only your family but your friends. Even if that wasn't the case you shame your father by dishonoring him so. You are not a baby but your acting like one. I know you've been through so much in such a short life, but you're still strong. You are the Soldier of Death and Rebirth. You of all people should know that death is not an end, for us or mortals. Your father battled a great evil and won…all for the love of you. Is this how you repay him? Sniveling on the ground? Hiding from your responsibilities? As you said you are his only family. He's counting on you to see him into the afterlife. I thought better of you little soldier. Maybe I don't know you after all. The Hotaru I know, doesn't give up and fights to the end. This little soldier is not the end for you.” Hotaru had jumped up somewhere in the middle of the speech and had slowly, hands clenched, made her way to the woman who talked so harshly to her. Now she stood toe to toe with her. She looked up in her face dried tears on her face.
“How can you be so cruel to me? My father just died. You must be heartless.”
”I can do it because I believe in you. I can do it because when you're in pain I feel it. I can do it because even though you don't think of me as such I think of you as my daughter. I can do it because I love you. That's not a cold heart but a heart filled with pain for your pain.” Words had trembled on her lips but none had come out. Instead she had flung her arms around Pluto and hugged her for dear life.

“Trista! I'm sorry, I'm just so scared. I don't want to be alone again.” Pluto hugged the girl to her tightly and reassured her.
”Don't worry, you won't be alone I promise.”
“But what will I do? Where will I live?”
“But what will I do? Where will I live?”
“You'll live with me if you want. If you don't you can choose any of the scouts, they would all take care of you. It's your choice.” Hotaru had wiped at her eyes and looking up arms still wrapped around Trista's waist and said seriously and passionately.
“I want to stay with you. Just you mother.”
Now back on the very same roof again she smiled a bitter sweet smile. From that moment forth she had called her mother. Funny how in less then two days she had lost a father and gained the mother she had been born without. Shaking her head she cleared the memories from the past and looked on the present below. Whenever she was bored she would transform and patrol the city. There were no demons to fight but there was still evil in the world. She mostly stayed to the dark and shadows and helped those in need from their human predators. She hadn't lied when she had said she had friends she could have been hanging out with. Tonight however had seemed like a Sailor Saturn night. So instead of being out and laughing like the 16 year old she was, she would hunt the street for wrong doers.
Scene 11-Seiya- Kinmokusei-Dawn (around 11am Earth time)
Seiya had just finished his rounds of the palace grounds. It was Taiki's turn now. There wasn't a need for patrol but they did it anyway. He headed back to his chambers in the north wing of the palace. He was beat and wouldn't mind a nap before the morning briefing with the princess. He opened his rich wooden door and eased in. His quarters were like a mini apartment. He went through the living room straight back to the bedroom. There were two things that he noticed immediately. The first was the smell of Paris's(*) perfume in the air. That told him that she had come to visit him tonight. He shook his head. He didn't know why she just didn't ask for his schedule. This wasn't the first time she had popped in only to find him not here. The second thing he noticed was a letter on the bed. It was in the gold paper that only palace members used to send letters. On Kinmokusei they didn't have mailmen, but a special kind of paper. All you did was write the name of the person you wanted it to go to and the place. Most times just a first name would do.
He turned from the letter and took off the jacket of deep red that he was wearing. It was one or the royal colors spread throughout the palace. Funny Paris had never left him a letter before. She usually just found him later the next day. Maybe she had something on her mind. They were friends and sometime lovers. She was a guard in training and a woman in waiting to the princess. Their friendship had been slow to grow but he felt that their arrangement suited them both. Heading back to the bed, he stretched out and got comfortable before even picking up the envelope. He almost opened it with out even looking but something caught his eye. It was addressed “Seiya Kou Planet Kinmokusei”. He frowned, how odd. Since Paris had been in the room there was no reason for her to address it at all. If she had gone back to her room and decided to write him a note all she had to do was address it “Seiya”. No one else on the planet had his or any of the other Starlights name. However it was the last part that really caught his attention. “Planet Kinmokusei”. No one who lived on the planet would ever address a letter that way, never. Now he knew what had caught his eye. This letter had reminded him of the letters Taiki usually got every three months…from Earth.
He sat up in bed with a jolt. The letter seemed to come alive in his hands. Could it be… no he didn't even let the thought finish. Then who could be writing him from Earth? Neither he nor Yaten had ever gotten a letter from Earth, only Taiki. Who? Why now? Did this mean that something was wrong on Earth? The thought had him ripping open the envelope. Without that motivation the thought had been creeping in the back of his mind to never open it. Now he took out the single piece of stationary and read. His eyes widened as he read, and because some parts of the letter was so beyond belief he even chuckled. He really should have expected no less from her. The last two sentences of the letter had his throat going dry and his hand shaking. The two little sentences did him in.
“Damn it!” He resisted the urge to ball up the paper and instead refolded it and put it back in the envelope. He knew it wasn't a joke, though the one who had sent it would have been porn to them. No what was in that letter was real. He ran a hand down his face. What the hell to do about it? It had been addressed to him but most of the message had been written for the others also. Except of course those last two lines. Those had been written for him and him alone. He was pretty sure that no one else had received a letter. Did he show it to them, did he dare? What if they made a decision that he couldn't live with. For that matter what did he think about the letter?
His first thought had been disbelief. It had quickly ran to an happiness that he hadn't know in years, six years to be exact. On the heel of that emotion had rode apprehension. With the last two lines a dry taste of fear and anger came in the back of his throat. He wasn't sure if he could do what the letter asked, even if he wanted to. It was strange to hear himself think such a thing since the letter only asked him to do what he had wanted to do almost every day for the last six years. But now that the opportunity was here would he take it. Could he seize what he really wanted almost more then life it's self? No, that wasn't the real question. The real question was there anything left for him to seize.
“Shit. I'll deal with this in the morning.” He was getting a headache so he laid back down carefully sitting the letter on his bedside dresser. “Maybe if I get some sleep I'll wake up and none of this will have happened.” He knew that wouldn't be case, even knew that he didn't want that to be the case. He closed his eyes and tried to relax, to rest. But almost instantly the vision of her face popped up behind his eyelids.
“Damn it to hell.” He opened his eyes and looked at the golden craved ceilings. He knew he wouldn't get any sleep. He'd had many other nights were visions of her face came to him. All it took was one time and he knew sleep was not an option. Yes he'd deal with the letter later, right now he needed to think, to decide. And for what was probably the millionth time in the last six years he whispered the name that haunted him.
“Serena.”
