Sailor Moon Fan Fiction ❯ Reality ❯ Inner Demons ( Chapter 1 )
I remember once Luna told me of others. They were nothing but fairy tales in the Moon Kingdom, but could it be possible that they were more? So much more then what we had thought?
One simple legend, one small story? But this was so real...
What is reality anymore? I can't seem to tell the difference, is this a dream? Or am I somewhere else, somewhere far away from the Tokyo I knew, from the Tokyo I loved so much?
If this a dream, how do I wake up?

Chapter 1 - Inner Demons
"This isn't my home, I don't belong here." Serena said to herself, depression sinking in. What was this place anyhow?
"Why am I here?" she asked the teenage girl who she had come to meet in the cave two days ago. Her name was Mari, and boy, she had more then a bit of an attitude...
"HOW SHOULD I KNOW?" Mari screamed at her. This was going to be a long day.
This place, it looks so much like my home, and yet, it's so far from being my home.
Just then a man about Mari's age walked into the room. He was tall, taller then Darien it seemed. He had a definate look that was extremely reminiscent to when Darien was mad, or more accurately, worried for Serena's safety when she went into things without thinking. His raven colored hair hid one of his eyes however, so it didn't matter much about the facial expression... No matter what, her guesses could always be off.
Surprisingly enough, he was neither mad, nor worried. He seemed to be more suspecting a demonic catastrophe that would doom the world forever to happen from the second he laid eyes on Serena. A definate sign he had issues if he thought Serena was capable of that, from Mari's point of view anyway.
"Mori, nice to see you showered." Mari teasingly told him. So, Serena thought, this is her twin. Serena found this somewhat hard to believe.
The man frowned at his sister, although with the way he had his hair, and general way his kept his face, he looked more like he was about the take a giant hammer out from behind his back and start pounding the two of them into mush on the floor. Boy, talk about a vivid image...
"Uh, hi." Serena said shyly. Well, you wouldn't be the most talkative, carefree person alive if you had been ensnared into an evil plot by a snake demon. Of course, Serena didn't know she'd been ensnared into an evil plot by a snake demon, so she didn't exactly feel like the happiest person in the world, as you can probably imagine.
Mori looked at her. His pupils seemed to expand to fifty times their size, and he looked a bit like he belonged in a mental institution. Even his clothes seemed gothic and end of the world, prepare to die, I'm going to torture, rip you limb from limb, and boil you in battery acid-ish. This, of course, was the least comforting thing Serena had thought all day.
"I heard you were going to be here." Mori said to his "sister". He didn't reply to Serena until Mari glared at him. He looked as if he were about to die, then turned to Serena.
"Hi." he said dully. Obviously not the most social person Serena had ever met, indirectly anyway.
"This is my brother, Mori. Excuse him, he thinks evil spirits possess all who are bright and cheerful. He doesn't like bright colors, butterflies, flowers, or anything that smiles except his sisters." Mari said to Serena. Mori glared at her.
"Who said I even liked you?" Mori said spitefully.
"He also won't date any girls, kinda makes you wonder..." Mari said, grinning like a fool.
Mori glared at her. Serena cringed. Please, I'm too young to die...
"So, who are you exactly?" Mori asked her, continually glaring. Boy, this was going to be a REALLY LONG day.
"Uh, Serena." she answered, more or less. You could say she was a bit distracted by the glares and fearing for her life to speak louder then a whisper. They heard her never the less, and Mari rightfully swatted Mori on the left side of his head.
"Would you cut it out?!?!! You're scaring her. For goodness sakes, stop listening to the voices in your head and think happy thoughts for once in your life!!! Sarah Michelle Gellar, Brittany Spears... Oh wait, no girls... Kevin Sorbo, Bruce Campbell, Brad Pitt!!!!" Mari said dreamily. That was the last straw...
"EEEEEEPPP!!!!" Mari screamed as she ran down the hospital hallway, Mori close behind ready to beat her bloody.
Serena watched the best she could from the tiny hospital room. Her eyes widened as she watched Mori tackle Mari and they began to wrestle. One of the nurses told them in a VERY stern voice to stop, but they kept on trying to beat eachother senseless, failing as the case may be. Not that it particularly mattered, they did this on a daily basis. This all reminded Serena of her friends and family, how they used to act, to play, to laugh, but then she remembered that they didn't try to kill eachother and only exchanged witty banters which turned sour and soon became plots against eachother and unfriendly compition... They weren't crazy enough to try and kill eachother, not in public anyway........
After a few moments Mori returned looking as diabolical as ever. He sat down and looked toward Serena.
"Hi." Serena said. He nodded a hello.
Serena heard feet scrambling down the hall. I hope Mari's okay.... Cuz I'm about to die from fear.....
Just then Mari burst into the room and sat down the chair next to where Mori was sitting. He glared at her. She looked over at him with a look of indignation for a few moments, and just when he was about to turn his head, she quickly stuck her tongue out at him. And with that and a slight HMMPH! she turned back toward Serena.
"So. if you're not from this place, then how did you get here????" Mari asked.
"I don't know." Serena said.
Mori looked at her. Well, she doesn't look like a demon, but it doesn't mean she isn't. Tera was demon disguised as a human, and she nearly wiped out half the planet... That was a rather unplesant memory...
"Well, whatever it is, it has to do with the Saji diamond. Of course, that means it's going to be yet another puzzle in a series of puzzles that never end... Not to mention it'll include thinking and intellegent conversations and- Who's hungrey?" Mari asked...
"Well, since it includes thinking and intellegent conversations, that counts you out of all of it..." Mori mumbled, rolling his eyes.
Yep, thought Serena, just like home.... Only more psychotic people to deal with...
-------
Serena got out of the car and walked up the house behind Mori and Mari. Mori was a great driver, he had to be... He went sixty when the speed limit was fifteen... Needless to say, Serena would spend many sleepless nights from nightmares about how many cars they nearly crashed into...
They walked inside. Mari and Mori's little sister Lisa sat at the kitchen drawing a picture of what looked like... SAILOR MOON!!! Only, there were differences... The Sailor Moon she was drawing had short violet hair with curls, green eyes, and she looked very dignified and very far from pensive at the same time... That was something hadn't yet managed.
And the face, the face was so very familiar.... It almost looked like it could've been... Mari??? But then, either this girl really thought her older sister was the best person alive, or things were very wrong, both of which were a possibility in this place... It still disheartened Serena.
"Hi Lisa!" Mari said happily. Lisa looked up at her, her amber hair falling in front of the right side of her face. She definately had the look of Mori, but she the somewhat feminine quality of Mari. The difference was, Lisa smiled at them.
"Where have you been young lady! I've been worried sick! I called the police, the morgue, the airport, the trainstation, and the hospital!" shouted a woman as she enter the room.
"Hi, mom." Mari said.
"HI MOM!!! HI MOM!!! THAT'S ALL YOU HAVE TO SAY!!! I'M WORRIED SICK AND ALL YOU HAVE TO SAY IS 'HI MOM'!!! WHERE WERE YOU?!?!?!"
"At the hospital, visiting a friend, like I said I would be..." Mari said slowly as if her mother couldn't understand simply english. Her mother's eyes widened noticeably.
"Oh... I knew that... By the way, you're grounded." her mother said quickly and left the room faster then Mori drove.
"Well, she's normal for a Wednesday!" Mari said happily. Serena stared, where was she?
That was it, when she felt it... Something inside began to speak, to pound, to snarl and roar, and she felt dread and wonder fill up inside her as images popped into her head and a million thoughts invaded the sanctity of her mind. But, these thoughts were not cheerful, they were more chaotic and dispairing, and she felt an odd twinge of pain.
"So, what do you think?" Mari asked as Serena blinked back the tears of terror of pain that came to her eyes while the images of desolation and death ran freely through her mind.
"Serena? Serena? Serena? Belle?" Mari asked, trying to get her attention but Serena kept staring into nothing as the semblance of death plagued her tired brain.
Screaming began in Serena's ears, crying, the sound of fire, and somehow, Serena could smell blood. It was everywhere. Buildings were being burned to ground, cars were being blown up, the streets were full of people running, running as fast as they could to get away from something, but Serena couldn't see. She couldn't see anything but the discord and barrage that was all around her. Terror was all she could see, terror and death, flames and blood.
But then she saw a familiar figure. Some one she knew, yet some one who she had seen or dreamed about? Something about this person was familiar. There was a smell about him, a certain feeling of dread. But-
"SERENA!!" Mori shouted shaking her. Serena looked around.
"What??" Serena asked dazed. She looked around. Mari was staring at her with a worried look, Mori was looking as suspicious as possible, and, Serena noticed, a black cat the looked almost exactly like Luna hissed at her and clawed the air violently.
"NALI! SHUT UP!" Mari screamed at the cat.
"What happened?" Serena asked.
"You just, snapped. Your face went blank and you stared at nothing, and you were talking about something Serena. We couldn't understand you, but you were talking about something." Mari said, looking at Serena.
Serena looked from Mari to Mori, different expressions entirely. Mari had a look of apprehension, where Mori had a look of skepticism and malignity almost. He knew something was wrong, they both did. The question was, what did they think was wrong, and what really was wrong.
Serena absentmindedly wiped a tear that had run down her cheek and sighed heavily.
"Are you alright Serena?" Mari asked concerned. Serena rubbed her neck, feeling the tension.
"I, I guess." Serena said. Of course she felt very far from fine, but if you had just seen what she saw, would you tell a complete stranger from off the street that you were having weird visions??? They'd lock you up! Granted Mari and Mori weren't strangers Serena had met on the street, they were strangers Serena had met while following a strange voice on the wind, that no one else seemed to hear, to an old cave which no one can find, and then winding up in the hospital for two days!!! The situations were perhaps a little different, but Serena didn't bother to think about this fact at the moment.
Mori still looked at her suspiciously, but at least the look of malignity left his face. That was at least a little comforting, but not very.
"Okay..." Mari said, not entirely believing her.
------
"So, what do you think of Serena?" Mari asked Mori after they had found Serena a place to sleep at their house. Mari had called Serena, er, Belle's mother and told her she was going to sleep at a friend's house for a few nights. Her mother didn't and actually asked if she could stay there a week or so while her mother went out of the country to visit her boyfriend in Italy.
"I think she could be a threat." he said in a somewhat annoyed voice.
"You think everyone's a threat, especially after Tera, and I was talking about her more as girlfriend-wise..." Mari finished grinning. Mori glared at her.
"Well, you can't blame me for trying...." Mari said as she left the room to go to bed. Mori followed her up the stairs, and the two went in different directions to their bedrooms.
Mori laid down on his bed and thought some more, like he did every single day of his life at breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and all the time in between.
She seems normal, but when she froze like that... It was like she was seeing death himself before her. And she cried... Why did she cry?
She reminded him so much of Tera, back when they were together... Before she became...
He brushed these thoughts aside. He wasn't planning on letting anyone that close again, and he wasn't planning on remembering anything that had happened. He couldn't, it hurt too much...
Tera...
Serena sighed in her sleep. She rolled back and forth.
ISJHFJHFKJHGKJHFDKJGHRTJHKJDF.. Random thoughts and words were running quickly in her head, despretely trying to form intelligible words and sentences.
IRTHDHGSHDKJFSIHUYGR ADSJFKAJH AJHFKJGHIU SERENA HFJHGIUSDHFJKERHOSV....
She had understood, something was calling her... The background noise continued, but the words began to level and and became graspable.
Serena..... You can't run Serena... Can't hide... There's no where to go... nowhere, but down... Serena jumped up in her bed, breathing heavily. Something was right, aside from the obvious. Something was inside her, calling her, almost trying to gain control. But it was struggling, that Serena knew.
Her stomach turned. She could feel her insides rumble and bellow with displeasure and disgust.
