Ringing in the New Year
*Disclaimer*
I do not own any of the sailor moon characters, although I really wish
I did.
But anyway, I hope you enjoy this New Years I've given to Serena...
hope you enjoy... please read and review, and tell me honestly what
you think about my story so far, and tell me if I should continue with
it =)
"Are you going to go to the New Year's Party?" Mina asked Serena, who
was sitting on the couch, and staring out the window.
"Hmm..." Serena said looking up at her best friend.
"The Big New Years party on Saturday, are you going?"
She considered the thought. She'd love to get away for the night and
just party it up with her friends.
"I guess so."
Mina's face brightened.
Serena smiled at her friend, as she seemed to be in such a good mood.
"So... what's new with you?"
Mina smiled at her friend, "Ah, enough."
Serena shook her head. "Well, I'm just glad that Christmas is over. It
was great and all, but the stress is over."
Mina nodded in agreement. "Oh I know what you mean. I spent almost all
of my time working, then in my spare time I was shopping for
presents."
"I was lucky that I got to take it easy. My boss decided that the
others needed the hours more then I did, but this year, being that I'm
on my final year. I'm still exhausted from those term finals."
Mina nodded. "Well, I had to handle most of the finances this year.
Usually my assistant does that work, but she's on maternity leave, and
I haven't been able to train someone to work with me yet."
"Well, you do have strange habits," Serena laughed.
Mina grinned. "Hey, laugh if you will, I've kept my company up for
three years running."
Serena nodded. "I am amazed. You've accomplished a lot being so
young."
"Yes, and this new years is my reward for another year done well."
"Is Andrew going to be there?"
Mina nodded, while her eyes brightened, "I made sure that he was. If
he wasn't going to go, I was going to have a difficult time deciding
to go."
"Oh sure. You and Andrew haven't done the off and on, on and off again
thing," she laughed.
"But that's what so great. We made this deal that starting now, we're
starting completely fresh. We want everything to be as if we just met,
and we have to prove to each other why we should be together."
Serena raised her eyebrow. "That sounds a bit plausible."
Mina sipped her eggnog. "I should hope so, I spent a lot of time
thinking about it."
Serena put her head back, and stared at the ceiling. "I'm not even
sure what I want. I've tried dating, but it really is too much of a
pain. I don't see how guys can't try to meet a girl halfway, or just
be decent."
"Oh Serena," Mina said sympathetically.
"No I mean it. I am so sick of all of it. I mean I spent years having
Darien torment me, and he left, and still, when he comes home to visit
Andrew, he's terrible. Then Daniel, I survived a year, and his
proposal. I was almost clouded... but I eventually woke up."
"Well, maybe you'll meet someone this new years."
"Even if I don't, I'll be fine."
Mina released a heavy breath.
"Poor Leta," Serena said, changing the subject. "I can't believe how
late the baby is."
"I know, poor Ken is driving himself up the wall. He's ready to jump,
but is fighting exhaustion while he's at it."
"Ah, well, by the looks of it, there'll be a lot of things that will
welcome us in the New Year."
Mina smiled warmly. "Rei and Amy are already looking forward to the
baby."
"I'll bet. Rei and Amy have a major bet going on."
"Actually, it's a five way bet. Chad, Rei, Amy, Greg and me."
"Well, count me in, I say Leta will go into labor right at midnight."
"Okay," Mina smiled. "This will be an interesting New years for sure,"
she smiled.
Serena grabbed her eggnog. "Well, it means I won't be having Leta's
famous New Year's Clock cake."
Mina laughed. "I guess not. She had to step back from her cooking at
her restaurant."
"I guess I'll have to see how I'll manage to survive this new years.
Well, the party could probably make up for the cake," Serena laughed.
"Oh, of course."
* * *
Andrew was just reading through his economic reports when he heard the
phone. He sighed, then went and answered the phone.
"Hello?"
"Hey `Drew."
"Darien, hey, how you've been?"
"Pretty good."
"So, what's up?"
"Well, I'm coming to town, so I figured I'd call to let you know."
"When?" Andrew asked him.
"I should be in tomorrow."
"Hey, well, it looks like you'll be going to the New Year's party."
"Oh am I?" Darien laughed.
"Yep. So, what time should I pick you up at the airport?"
"My plane gets in about nine."
"Sounds good. So... how you've been, it sure has been a while."
"Yeah, I remember the last time I was here, I had milkshake dumped on
me."
Andrew had to suppress a fit of laughter at the memory. "Well, you
really did piss off Serena. Man, I've never seen her so mad."
Darien scowled. "Yeah, well..."
"I just hope you don't antagonize her this time. I think everyone
would like to celebrate at the party without such dramatics, that
might result in broken furniture, or even broken bones."
"Hey, I've never been as bad as you make it sound. Serena can't hate
me that bad."
"Sure Darien, that's why almost every time Serena sees you, her fists
clench, and turn white. She could probably stab you with the daggers
that are in her eyes."
"..." There was silence. "Do you think she hates me that badly?"
"I would have to say so."
Darien chewed his lip. He didn't like the feeling that Serena really
hated him. He just did it in fun. But, he had to agree that they drove
each other nuts.
"Well, it's been over six months. Maybe she'll have forgotten you
exist. She may not even come near you at the party."
"... yeah, maybe."
"You okay Dare'? You sound a bit... spacey?" he tried to find a word
to fit. It was like Darien was trying to think of what he had just
said.
"...no, I'm okay."
"Okay, well, I'll see you tomorrow."
"Okay bud."
They hung up. Andrew shook his head. Mina and him had hoped once, long
ago that they might have hooked up, but it was never to happen. They
just seemed to hate each other so much.
Well, I just hope that they don't try to kill each other at the party,
he thought to himself.
