~~ In a highly isolated "dimension"… ~~

"I get so close, and then it all falls apart because of that damn guardian!" Anger surged, and a battle aura grew drastically, threatening to obliterate the various, age-old paintings and ceramics in the room in one sweep of energy. The "world" around him began to tremble, the tremors growing stronger with every passing moment. Regaining his senses, Yosoru brought his energy level down, mentally cursing his stupidity of letting his emotions get the better of him. "I cannot afford to lose what little I have," he muttered dangerously. "Everything else has been lost and irretrievable."

"My Lord," a voice hissed.

Yosoru turned at the sound. "Report," he ordered icily.

The voice belonged to a shadow of pure darkness in humanoid shape. This one in particular had been present when Yosoru was ostracized millennia ago. It was extremely lucky to have survived, for most of its kin had been destroyed in the process of confining its master. "Resurrection of my brothers has been completed. Debriefing in progress."

"Good," Yosoru commented somewhat harshly; he wasn't in the mood for pleasantries. "Anything else?"

"Our operation failed," the youma replied dutifully.

"Is there anything that I don't know?" Yosoru demanded.

"No, My Lord."

Yosoru sharply waved a hand at it. "Dismissed. Report whenever there is a change in our progress. Send out another wave of our forces."

"Yes, My Lord." The youma phased out of the dark room.

Now alone, Yosoru once again found himself examining the room that he had resided in for millennia and hated it. It was the symbol of his imprisonment, eternal loss, and everlasting hatred for people who stood in his way.

~~ Next Afternoon; Tokyo; Hikawa Shrine ~~

Every guardian of the Sol System was presently sitting at the low-set temple table in a secluded room in Rei's grandfather's shrine. Well, nearly every. Elusive as the planet from which she originated, Setsuna was the only guardian not present. She had an event to attend at the Tokyo Observatory and the time for that coincided with the time of the meeting.

"You're joking!"

Hotaru focused her dark violet eyes on the fiery priestess. "This is no joke. It was obvious, Setsuna-kaasan was very upset." Her eyebrows bushed together. "It had something to do with that black rose."

Luna's feline ears perked up at the mention of a "black rose". "Nan kuroi bara?"

"Setsuna was holding one in her hand," Michiru explained, "but she never told us where she had gotten it from. I've never seen one like that before; it was in full bloom…"

"Nani?!" chorused the remaining guardians.

"Honto?" Luna asked, "That's strange; that isn't possible for a normal Earth rose. The only roses I know of that were different from the ones here on Earth were the roses that grew on each of the planets during the Silver Millennium. But how is it possible for those to be found now?"

"Maybe someone kept a sample of them," Ami hypothesized, "and has been continually growing new ones."

"But where would someone grow them?" Makoto asked, "They'd be rather conspicuous, if you know what I mean."

"And Setsuna refuses to answer all the questions we ask," Haruka added, "It's as if answering them will cause great pain…"
