Chapter 4
At Yang Café, ten minutes early, Patrick leaned back in his chair, lost in thought. He couldn't believe what he had just done in the park today. Out of total shock and surprise (To the both of them) he had asked Serena out to dinner. Oh, it wasn't fancy or anything, because she had made it very clear that she wanted nothing to do with him romance wise. Plus, he knew how much her boyfriend was to her. It helped to know a little about her past and future too.
Imagine, Patrick thought, that girl will become Neo-Queen Serenity! It's amazing how such a loudmouthed lady would change to become the graceful queen he knew in his own time.
And it was amazing, for he himself would get the rare chance to know both Princess and Neo-Queen Serenity. It was one of the things that was rare and valuable at the same time. He had known Neo-Queen Serenity his whole life, as the son of a prince, the namesake of King Endymion, one of the King's friends.
It was hard, though, to gaze at the princess's face and try and hide the fact that she could be in mortal danger. That whatever Dymier was planning would be the end of her yet. That was why he had drifted into the past anyway: to protect the future queen of the Moon Kingdom. That's why he put up with the agonizing time warp known only as the Shadow Send top try and find her. Try to protect her, or else. And he would try his hardest and more, for his name wasn't Prince Dymion for nothing. Every bone in his body was agonizingly in pain, like hitting a brick wall at 100 miles an hour. And that was just one second out of the whole two-minute experience. Each second was agonizing, and even three hours after he made the trip, his ears were still ringing with the experience.
He never imagined that that old man, who had asked him this favor after escaping from Dymier's dungeon, might have been right about the transfer. If only he had listened
Looking down at his watch, he made a note of the time. 6:56. Serena should be here soon, he thought, I don't want to alarm her of the danger, but I must try and find a way to protect her. And, he smiled, a place to stay until this is all over. *~* *~* *~* *~* *~* *~* *~* *~* *~* *~* *~*
Serena ran up to the Yang Café, out of breath and very tired. She hoped Patrick wasn't waiting for too long, because she knew how she would feel if she was stood up. Looking at her watch as she headed in, she could barely make out the time. 7:00 sharp.
"Hey, Serena! You made it!" shouted a now familiar voice.
Spotting Patrick, she made her way to his table, surprised to see that he wasn't chowing down on any food already.
"I'm sorry to have kept you waiting," she said, "I hope you haven't stayed too long..."
"Oh no! Not at all," he replied, handing her a menu, "Here, are you hungry? You can have whatever you want."
"Thanks, but I already had dinner. Darien fixed me a surprise dinner, and I couldn't eat another bite," she said, apologizing.
"Hey, that's okay. So, how was your picnic with your friends?"
"How'd you know I was on a picnic?"
"Well, I did sorta notice you and your friends come into the park. It's hard to miss someone like you."
"Thanks," she replied, blushing, "but if you don't mind, can you get to the point please? I don't mean to be rude, but since I don't know you that well"
"Yes, of course. Well I'm kind of embarrassed to admit this but I don't have a place to stay, and I was wondering"
"Wha?" Serena yelped, "You want me to house you, someone I barely even know, in my house because you don't have a place to stay?"
"Well, yeah."
"That's insane!"
"Yeah."
"Why'd you pick me to give you a place to stay?"
Patrick smiled and leaned forward for a more dramatic effect. "I saw something in you that I've seen in only one other person. You looked like a kind, softhearted person that has not only a beautiful face, but also a beautiful heart."
Serena blushed. Wow, he sounds a lot like Darien! She mused. Bet he's been taking lessons from him!
"Please, I'll do anything. Please."
Her strictly business attitude suddenly melted into one of compassion. "Alright, I guess so. You'll have to sleep in the basement, and there's not much to do down there, but I think I can sneak you past my parents and down the stairs." She smiled. "As long as you stay quiet, I may even invite you to meet my friends."
"Oh, THANK YOU SERENA!!!!!" he shouted, jumping up and hugging her, "Thank you SOOOOOOO MUCH!!"
"Okay! Okay! Let go of me! We're making a scene!" she said, laughing.
"Alright!" he replied, joyously, "So, when do I move in?"
"As soon as we get out of this restaurant and to my house!"
"Okay! I can deal with that! Let's go!"
With a wave of his hand, and Serena in tow, Patrick led Serena to his car, helped her in, got in himself, and drove away.
