Ami winced as the doctor poked and prodded her head, the look causing a little distress from Rei as she sat in another, stiff plastic chair next to the bed.
"I'd say, it's only skin deep. The bruising has already come up so that means it's not that serious. Just a bump on the head," said the doctor giving the two girls a smile.
"So you're Ami Mizuno, I've met your mother. She's a great woman," said the doctor, resting his stethoscope around his neck.
"Yeah, she is," replied Ami looking down at her feet awkwardly.
"Well, we're all done here so you two can shoot off if you like," said the doctor turning to give Rei a smile as he walked out of the room.
"You shouldn't have worried Rei," said Ami as she pushed herself off the bed, Rei coming to over to hold her hand.
"I'm allowed to be worried about my… About my… Friend," said Rei, her voice stuttering over the last word. We're more than friends now, Rei thought, sighing as she left the room with Ami, walking down the pristine white walls and watching the doctors and nurses go from one room to the next.
"Do you want to go home now Rei? Or do you want to stay a little while longer?" Ami looked up at Rei as she spoke, unsure of whether she should have asked the question.
"Go home," said Rei sighing, "Grandpa was awake earlier so I'm sure he'd understand that I'd have to go back. I have to fix up the window, clean up my room and I'm sure there's about a million other things to be done as well."
Ami bowed her head; She's been getting behind because of me, thought Ami as they walked on.
Taking the turn into Rei's Grandpa's room, Rei picked up her backpack that she had left next to his bed then bent down to plant a soft kiss on his forehead. I don't deserve someone like that, thought Ami sullenly as she watched Rei, wondering how on earth Rei could have had the same feelings for her in the first place. Maybe IT's not wrong, but we are, considered Ami, turning the words over and over in her head, but making no progress as she did so.
"Ami, are you sure you're alright?" asked Rei worriedly, a hand placed on her shoulder. Had she been shaking me? Ami asked herself, but she couldn't tell, she hadn't been paying attention.
"Come on Ami, I'll make you some cocoa when we get back," said Rei as she started towards the elevator.
"Rei, I think it's time I went back to my place. I mean my mother is only away for another week, I should be fine," said Ami, not looking into Rei's eyes as she spoke.
"Okay then, but you still have to get the stuff you left there," said Rei, starting to walk again and expecting Ami to follow.
"Actually I don't, I've already taken it back to my place," replied Ami. She knew she was being unreasonable, she loved being around Rei but she also had this burning desire to be alone again, it was like two people fighting inside of her, the only problem was, she didn't know which one was her.
"Oh, well okay then," said Rei nonchalantly.
Rei's response let Ami down slightly, she had been expecting something more, but it seemed that maybe Rei didn't care for her as much as Ami thought she did. Maybe we are just friends, thought Ami sadly, her hands stinging as she remembered feeling Rei's arms around her, feeling Rei's lips on hers, and then something broke.
Ami's eyes flew open wide and she couldn't stop her actions, coming up behind Rei she put her hands on either shoulder and roughly pulled backwards.
Rei screamed in agony as Ami continued to pull her shoulders backwards, in on themselves.
Ami instantly had all the attention in the crowded waiting room, and she felt hands restrain her, but somehow they couldn't get purchase on her skin and it wasn't until a strangled cry of, "Ami!" broke through Rei's lips that Ami came to her senses and let Rei go.
"I'm, oh… I'm so sorry Rei," whispered Ami before taking off, heading for the hospital stairs, racing down them and heading straight for the door. Nobody followed her, she knew they wouldn't but she still felt like she was being chased, she just didn't know by what.

"It's official," said Usagi as she talked the matter over with Minako and Makoto.
"What's official?" asked Chibiusa, poking her head around the door curiously, she had come down for snacks for her and Hotaru but when she caught the girls talking she had decided to investigate.
"Ami and Rei," replied Makoto, her voice more accepting than any of the other girls.
"BUT THEY'RE BOTH GIRLS!" Chibiusa's screeched made the three older girls' ears pop at the sound of it.
"So are Haruka and Michiru," said Minako justly.
"BUT THEY CAN'T BE TOGETHER! IT'S NOT RIGHT!" Chibiusa's voice didn't go down in decibels as she cried this out, her eyes popping wide in their sockets.
"If they want it, then it's right," said Usagi, getting annoyed with Chibiusa, "And you have to accept it!"
"NO, I DON'T HAVE TO ACCEPT IT! THEY'RE NOT MEANT TO BE TOGETHER!" Chibiusa's voice seemed to raise even higher, Usagi's face scrunching up at the sound.
"Not everyone's meant to be Chibiusa but sometimes they're together anyway," said Makoto, giving Chibiusa a scowl, "You should know better than to judge people."
Chibiusa's mouth hung open, unable to grasp the ability to speak as she glared at the three girls, "You could break them up if you wanted to, you just don't care."
Usagi shook her head sadly, "I don't know what's been up with her lately," she said, "And I can't believe her voice can get so high… And loud."
"She takes after you in that department Usagi," teased Minako, poking her friend in the ribs.
Usagi's eyes widen, "I'm not that loud!" exclaimed Usagi in indignation.
"No, you can get louder," joked Makoto, laughing lightly before her face turned grave, "I wonder why it's worked Chibiusa up so much though, it doesn't really seem like her to be too judgemental. Do you think there's something about the future we should know?"
Usagi frowned, "I don't know, she's tight-lipped about things, no matter how many times I ask."
"And what did you ask Usagi?" questioned Minako.
"I asked what wedding dress I should buy but she wouldn't tell me which one I was wearing, I'm sure she's seen pictures," said Usagi, looking up at the sky before pushing herself back to lie on the floor.
"Well that's a very big decision Usagi, going to save the world that one," laughed Minako, giving her friend another poke.
"I'm worried though," started Makoto, causing the other two to look over at her, "What could make Chibiusa act that way? It doesn't make sense to me."
Minako nodded in agreement, "Its odd isn't it?"
"Almost as odd as the weather," stated Usagi, picking up another cookie from the platter in front of her.
"Yeah, the weather," murmured Makoto as she took a look outside. It was currently sunny, but the weather had been unexplainable lately, and it could change in an instant.
~~~~~
Omani-Kaye stood outside Ami's house waiting. She had walked by earlier and seen Ami race inside, and then leave again.
"I wonder why she was in such a hurry," said Omani-Kaye, speaking her thoughts aloud. Leaning back against the wall Omani-Kaye looked up at the sky wearily, "Please don't start raining," she begged it, she wasn't in the mood for rain today, the sunshine suited her perfectly.
"Omani?" came the sweet, dulcet sounds of Ami's voice, hesitation and uncertainty clear in her word.
"Ami-Chan, I haven't seen you in awhile," said Omani-Kaye brightly, a smiling instantly lighting up her face, but she was surprised to see that Ami's face didn't respond as expected.
"What's wrong Ami, has something bad happened?" asked Omani-Kaye, racing through her memories but coming up with nothing bad.
"No, it's just, I hadn't seen you in awhile, I thought maybe you had moved on," said Ami warily, the hope in her voice was only too evident.
"Don't you like me anymore Ami?" asked Omani-Kaye angrily, her teeth clenching down at the thought. Walking forward quickly Omani-Kaye reached out to grab Ami's hand but Ami pulled away from the touch.
"Aren't we friends anymore Ami?" asked Omani-Kaye, her eyes turning to slits as she glared at the blue-haired beauty in front of her. Reaching out again Omani-Kaye focused to grabbing Ami's hand, the instant motion of Ami reaching back out making Omani-Kaye smile. "See you still like me," said Omani-Kaye a smirk rising on her face wickedly.
Ami felt the compulsion to let go of the hand but it felt like her arm wasn't in her control anymore. That's how I felt when I hurt Rei, thought Ami, the pain and hurt rearing up inside her as Ami ripped her hand away from Omani-Kaye's.
"Ami-Chan, what're you doing?" asked Omani-Kaye angrily, the smirk disappearing and being replaced by a grimace. "It's alright Ami-Chan, you'll come around, I promise you will but until then I'll just stay here," said Omani-Kaye. The words weren't purely threatening but they sent a cold shiver through Ami's body anyway, there was a deadly promise laced into Omani-Kaye.
"I'm going inside now Omani-Kaye, I recommend you leave here," said Ami calmly as she walked through the front gates, grabbing her keys to open up the house.
When Ami had closed the door she turned to look at the inside of the house. Her eyes widened in shock, everything was in shambles, like somebody had been looking for something. Angrily Ami went over to the window to see Omani-Kaye smirking again, looking straight at her. Omani-Kaye leant forward, clearly mouthing the words for Ami to see, 'You'll thank me later.'
Ami clenched her teeth in agitation. "Why on earth would I thank you Omani-Kaye!" exclaimed Ami as she pushed the lounge up the right way.
As Ami cleaned the house she began to realise that little things had gone missing, and then some bigger things.
"Where have all my photos gone?" asked Ami, her bedroom looked hideously bare without the mountain of photo-frames scattered about the place with pictures of her friends.
Irritated, Ami walked down the stairs, it was dusk; she had spent all afternoon cleaning. "Where would she have put them?" Ami asked herself. Feeling her stomach tighten, she realised she hadn't eaten anything all day. Sighing, she made her way to the fridge, pulling out a banana and peeling it. As she munched on the banana she yet again, tried to force the sound of Rei's scream out of her mind but it stayed stuck there, like a piece of chewing gum on your favourite shoe. What the hell is happening to me? Thought Ami as she stared down at her hands. Finishing the banana, she went to throw the skin in the rubbish bin but when she opened it, it was already full. Broken glass and frames sat piled in the bin, all the photos having been ripped to shreds.
Ami crouched down on the floor beside the bin, the tears rolling anxiously down her eyes; she riffled through the mess of glass and torn paper, barely feeling the little cuts she got in the process.
Slowly, towards the bottom Ami found one picture that hadn't been torn up, not to say it was in mint condition. It was an old picture of her and Rei, one that Usagi had taken when it had just been the three of them as soldiers.
She and Rei were hugging each other and as Ami stared at the photo she realised something she hadn't thought of before; even in those early days there was something between them, you could see it in their eyes as they stared back at you happily.
What have I done? Ami asked herself, her fingers running over the sharp indentations that had been made all over Rei's body, but thankfully Rei's face had been left untouched by the onslaught.
You've done nothing to deserve this Rei, thought Ami tiredly, putting the photo back on top of the pile.
Standing up, Ami washed her hands in the sink, drying them slowly, making sure there were no small pieces of glass in her fingers as she did so. I'll go see Usagi she'll be glad, thought Ami as she turned from the sink and made her way back upstairs. Even though she felt exhausted Ami didn't want to go to sleep, it was way too early, and anyway she owed it to her friends to go and see them, they had been so nice and patient, even when she was whacked out.
Ami sighed, secretly she still felt a little whacked out. Some of the desperation had gone but there was still a fair amount of it left, and it scared Ami so she left it to its own trifles.
Getting changed Ami heard a small knock at the front door. Thinking it was Omani-Kaye, Ami walked down the stairs slowly; grabbing one of the brooms she had been using to clean and putting it in front of her like a weapon. She knew it was ridiculous, she was a Sailor after all but for some reason she knew that those powers wouldn't work on Omani-Kaye.
Reaching out to open the door, Ami saw the distinct silhouette of Rei. Opening the door, she stared at her friend, or ex-friend, she didn't know why Rei had come after all.
Standing there, still holding the broom in one hand, Ami had no idea what to expect as Rei stepped forward. Ami could see that she had had bandages put around her shoulders. Feeling the tears well over slightly Ami prayed to herself to not collapse right now; that wouldn't do anyone any good.
Rei stepped forward again, an odd look on her face, it was how she looked when she was fighting an enemy. But I'm not an enemy, thought Ami, Or am I now? The question startled Ami because it wasn't her voice in her head; the second thought had come attached with Omani-Kaye's voice.
Rei took another, final step forward; she was mere centimetres from Ami now, and her face relaxed. Rei slipped her hands around Ami's waist, waiting to see if anything was going to happen. When Ami didn't react, Rei pulled her in closer; Ami noticed the small wince Rei made at this action.
Ami-Chan, what're you doing? Omani-Kaye's voice interrupted her thoughts again but Ami pushed it away, she now recognised the voice that had been whispering to her for the past two months, the voice that egged on her own despair.
Not waiting for Rei to make another move Ami pushed herself roughly up against the girl, her hands instantly grabbing to Rei's hair as she hungrily took the girl's mouth in hers, not asking for entrance as she tongue began to lovingly move with Rei's in a way that Ami had previously thought impossible.
AMI-CHAN! Omani-Kaye's voice screamed inside her head, but it had no affect on Ami anymore, it only caused for Ami to push herself further onto Rei, her hand reaching out to slam the door, Ami catching a brief glimpse of Omani-Kaye's face as she did so.
