THEY GO TOGETHER
By Sailor DKC
GOSSIP ON THE MOON KINGDOM
"Did you hear? Princess Amy is seeing General Zoicite from Earth!"
"Seriously?"
"How could she go out with him? He's just a plain general."
"Yeah, not her type. I thought she prefer an ambassador or a senator
or a fellow royal physician because of her field in medicine."
"Maybe she likes to 'cut loose' once in a while."
"Guess that Zoicite seems to fit there just perfectly."
"Won't last long. I bet she'll return to her stable lifestyle once
another planet representative visits the Moon."
"Yeah, those two don't go together at all."
GOSSIP ON EARTH
"Zoicite seeing the princess of Mercury? No way!"
"I'm not kidding! He's courting her."
"Come on! She's not even his type."
"Yeah, he always hangs around with those incredibly, beautiful
maidens who only show him off."
"Well, maybe he's taking pity on her. After all, she only sees men
with upstanding positions like a politician."
"Yeah, that general's a softie. Soon he'll be bored with her and be
headed back to those bevy of swooning beauties."
"Amy and Zoicite? Nah, they don't go together at all."
On the Moon Kingdom, Amy sighed as she leaned back against her chair
in her room. "I can't wait to see him again."
A knock on her door made her stand up. "Come in," she responded,
tightening the sash on her satin light blue robe. The door opened
and four princesses entered, all dressed and giggling.
"Amy!" Serena cried, pouting. "You're not dressed yet!"
"Oh, well I was reading a book and lost track of time."
"Yeah, right!" Lita was looking at the book on Amy's dresser. "So
how come you're still on page one?"
"And it's a romance novel!" Mina grabbed it and dangled it in front
of Amy. She tried to grab it.
"Mina, give it back!"
Raye was sitting on Amy's bed, watching Amy chase Mina. "Hmmm. This
wouldn't be you unless you are daydreaming of a certain general with long
wavy hair of red gold?"
Amy finally got the book from Mina and placed it back on her dresser.
"Well, maybe," she said, in shyness.
"I knew it! It's Zoicite!" Mina squealed excitedly.
"Oh, Amy," Lita said, dreamily. "You're the envy of the girls on Earth!"
"But how can I be?" Amy gasped. "You've seen the girls who hang
around him. They are way more sophisticated and prettier than I am."
She sat down at her dresser and looked in the mirror at her
reflection. "What does he see in me?"
"What we see in you!" Serena kneeled in front of her friend and took
her hands. "You have more sophistication and beauty than those other
girls had."
Lita took down Amy's blue dress form a display hook. "Is this what
you're going to wear?"
"Yes."
"It's lovely! The color matches with your hair and eyes. Let me check
your jewelry case for a necklace to go with it."
"I'll help with your hair!" Raye offered.
"I'll do your make-up!" Mina included.
"Come on, girl!" Serena helped Amy into her dress. "We'll make you
knock Zoicite out of his boots!"
Zoicite was finishing up getting ready for the party when he heard a
knock on his guest room door. As he opened it, his four friends
greeted him as they came in.
"You almost done?" Kunzite asked.
"Yeah." Zoicite put on his general cape.
Jedite whistled sharply. "Hey, lookin' good! Is that a new cape?"
"Well, I only wear it for special occasions."
"I see." Nephlite grinned wickedly, crossing his arms. "But these
parties are almost every night. What's the special occasion?"
Blushing red, Zoicite stammered, "Uh, well, I-I..."
"I would say a gentle and kind lady with blue hair." Darien leaned
against the wall, arms crossed and smiling calmly.
"Princess Amy of Mercury!" Jedite exclaimed. "The quiet one with the
nose in her books?"
"I must admit, next to Lady Jupiter..." said Nephlite (a lovelorn look
on his face at the mention of her name). "..., there is a rare beauty
within her."
"Well, I'll be darned." Jedite shook his head. "Who would have
thought- you and her?"
"And what's that supposed to mean?" Zoicite asked, raising an
eyebrow in confusion.
"My friend." Kunzite placed a hand on his shoulder. "In case you
haven't heard, there are rumors about you and Princess Amy all over
the Moon Kingdom."
"And on Earth, too," Darien put in. "Most are that you two don't go
well as a couple."
"What business is it of theirs? Amy's special to me. She's unlike
anyone I have ever known in my entire life." Zoicite walked past his
friends, angrily, but stopped at the door. "Yet, I don't know what
she sees in me. A girl of her status deserves someone like an
ambassador or a senator." Turning, he looked sadly at his friends.
"I am just a General, protector of the Prince of Earth."
"You are more than that," Kunzite said. "And she sees that in you.
We see it also because we are your friends."
Feeling better, Zoicite flung aside his cape and opened the door.
"Well then, friends, shall we go?"
The party was in full swing. The music was enchanting, the banquet
was delicious, and the dancing was breathtaking. Everyone was having
fun; however, some stares kept turning to a particular couple. Then
the talking began.
"Did you see that? Ladies' Man Zoicite dancing with the Shy Princess
of Mercury!"
Swirling past the people who said that, Kunzite and Mina frowned as
they danced on.
"Why is he holding her so close? She's admirable to look at, but not
in the same league as the other ladies he used to court. Hey! OUCH!"
"Oops! Sorry, didn't mean to step on you!" Lita said, sarcastically.
Nephlite chuckled in approval as they glided past the injured party.
"What I don't understand is how can the intelligent Mercurian
princess can be with a general when she can have her pick of many
distinguished men who- AHH! MY DRESS!"
"I'm terribly sorry!" Jedite mockingly said, holding an empty glass.
"I tripped and didn't see where I was going!"
"Don't worry! It's only water!" Raye said, stifling a giggle. "You
still look presentable." Linking arms, the smiling couple went to
the punchbowl to celebrate with a victory drink.
Amy and Zoicite were still dancing but are aware of the talking.
Looking at each other nervously, they stopped. Quick as a wit,
Zoicite offered his arm. "Shall we take a walk out in the gardens?"
Nodding, she accepted, and they started for the garden doors.
"Well, of all things! They are going to the gardens!"
"I don't get it! Anyone can see that they are not right for each
other."
"Indeed, those two don't go together at all."
"ENOUGH!"
The whole hall was still and quiet, in response to Serena's
exclamation. Darien stood by her side. Amy and Zoicite had already
left.
"You ought to be ashamed of yourselves. What gives you the right to
say who should be with whom?"
"We all decide who we want to be with, " Darien said. "If that
person cam make the other happy, then that should be enough."
"And vice versa," Serena finished.
A lot of head, except for Amy's and Zoicite's true friends, bowed in
shame.
In the gardens, they came to a circular clearing. Zoicite noticed a
beautiful blue bloom and went over to pick it. He gave it to Amy.
"Thank you," she said, lifting it to her nose. Then she turned her
back to him, and they both looked up to admire the Earth in the
starlit sky.
* A breeze fluttered his cape around them. Taking a deep breath,
Zoicite placed his hands on her shoulders. Amy gave a small smile,
tenderly gripping her flower. She sensed that he will say something
special. *
When the breeze died down, he spoke. "Amy."
"Yes?"
He sighed, gathering courage. "You are very beautiful tonight."
Closing her eyes and smiling more, she replied, "You are very kind."
"Kind?" He turned her to face him. "That wasn't kindness. That was
honesty."
"Oh, Zoicite, I know I don't look like the ladies whom you use to
date. You don't have to pretend."
"I'm not pretending." Taking her by the shoulders, he pulled her to
him. "I would never pretend this..." and he gently place his lips on
hers. The kiss was soft, simple, and so sweet. Giving a quiet moan,
Amy wrapped her arms around his waist to receive more. He responded
by gathering her in his arms and cradling her in a gentle dip.
Lips moved slowly and passionately against each other as they kissed
deeper. After a while, they finally released, breathing very heavily.
"Oh, my dear!" Zoicite took her hands, bent his head, and pressed
them to his head. "I did not mean to be so forward."
"But you weren't!"
Lifting his head to look in her eyes, he said, "How could I behave so
rationally? If I were a politician or a lord, I would be better
disciplined."
"I would rather you not." Amy gripped his hands firmly. "I prefer you
like this because you make me feel that I can express myself freely."
She bent her head, blushing. "I'm not usually like that. I bet it's
awkward for you. You're so use to those ladies more sophisticated
than I am."
"Sophisticated? I don't think so." Zoicite pulled her close, placed
an arm around her and tilted her chin to look at him. "They always
seem to put on a show for me. When you show your emotions, you are
being true to me." Again, he kissed her.
"Zoicite."
"Amy."
When they returned to the party, it was still going on. But when they
danced again, they began to hear new, surprising talk.
"I have to admit. She makes him look so distinguished."
"When he holds her, her pretty face lights up."
"I wonder if this relationship is serious."
"Might be. They make an adorable couple."
Still dancing, Zoicite and Amy noticed Serena and Darien dance by
them, Serena winking, Darien giving a thumbs up. Smiling, they
looked back at each other and held each other closer. As they danced
the night away, they heard the sweetest gossip of all.
"They go together so well."
