I don’t own Fruits Basket, Underworld, X-men, or Saiyuki. Nightshade, however is all mine. She came to me in a dream one night ( literally) and has been running around in my head for about three years now. Although I think it is flattering if you like my character enough to write a fanfic with her in it please e-mail me first.
AN: Nightshade is a vampire/werewolf hybrid ( hence my statement about Underworld) who can fight with any weapon, or without one, has metal claws like Wolverine ( only reference to X-men, sorry to disappoint) she can also do magic and absorb without harming anyone’s powers -and she does so frequently by accident. Like any other vampire or werewolf she has a very scary “true form” she can also turn into any animal at will. The only angst in this story is in Nightshade’s past which you will learn about little by little in this and other fanfics I write.
The Sanzo-Ikkou has finally finished its mission with the help of Nightshade, the only female in the group. They have decided to take a trip to Japan for a well deserved vacation. Their first night in Japan they spend in a fancy hotel in Tokyo thanks to the AnEx-card. The following day they went out of town to find a place to camp. It was about 11:00 in the morning and the Sanzo-Ikkou were in the woods looking for a good camping spot, when they came across three young teenagers, two boys and a girl (Kyo, Yuki, and Tohru). One of the boys who had gray hair asked them politely “um excuse me but what are you doing out here? You see, this is actually privately owned land” ‘Oh, we were trying to find a good camping spot, we’re just on vacation from China, we didn’t realize that this was private property” said Nightshade, the only one of the Ikkou who was really fluent in Japanese. The girl then spoke up “if you’re from China, how come you’re so fluent at Japanese?” “ well I’m the only one who is really fluent, and I’m actually originally American, but I speak Japanese, Chinese, English, German, Polish, Latin, Elfish, and Kling-on. The boys here know a little Japanese, but I have to translate for them a lot.” “ my name is Tohru Honda, and this is Yuki and Kyo Sohma, their family owns this land and we live in a house a few meters away” “ I’m Nightshade, this is Sanzo, Gojyo, Hakkai, Goku, and the little white dragon on Hakkai’s shoulder is Hakuyru,” Nightshade introduced the Ikkou. “She’s so cute, would you like to come to our house for a while,” Tohru asked her new friends. “ Let me ask,” ( aside - in Chinese- to the rest of the Ikkou) “what do you think boys, should go hang out with them for awhile?” “why not” was the unanimous response.

Nightshade and the Ikkou followed Tohru and the boys back to the house, and Nightshade couldn’t help noticing three things about Yuki and Kyo. One, that they didn’t seem to like each other much; two, they really seemed to like Tohru, since they were each holding one of her hands; and three, except for Yuki’s first comment to them they had not said a word to her and her boys. Her boys had an excuse, they didn’t really speak them same language as their new friends. Yuki and Kyo knew that she at least could speak their language. When they got to the teen’s house Tohru introduced them to the house’s owner Shigure, Yuki and Kyo’s older cousin. Once they were settled and all in the same room it became apparent to Nightshade that these Sohma men were not entirely normal, she could sense it - one her natural animal instincts- and so she spoke up about her suspicions. “Hey, Tohru, these boys of yours aren’t quite normal, are they ,” Shigure spoke up instead of Tohru who was spluttering about not knowing what Nightshade meant, “what would you know about that, miss Nightshade,” Gojyo spoke up for her
“ Nightshade isn’t exactly normal either, in fact none of us are. Nightshade can sense whether someone is normal or not, it’s one of her many, many talents” “so you tell us your little secret, and we’ll tell you ours. By the way, I can also sense that you are worried that the head of your family will do something to us if we know your secret, trust me when I say it ain’t gonna happen. I’ll even give you a tidbit of our secret first if you want.” Hakkai supplied the “tidbit” for them. “Sanzo is, basically a ’magical’ Buddhist priest, Goku is a 518 year old monkey king demon, very, very powerful, that is why he wears that crown-like thing on his head, it limits his powers so he can control them. I am also a demon, however I was not born one, a group of demons kidnapped the woman I was in love with and I killed 1000 members of that family trying to find her and that turned me into a demon I was however too late to save her. Gojyo is known as a child of taboo, half human half demon.” “and I’ll tell you all about me after you tell us more about yourselves” with Shigure’s permission Tohru told the Sanzo-Ikkou all about how she met the Sohmas and about the Sohma family curse. Then Nightshade told them about herself “ I’m cursed too, every one I fall in love with dies, I’ve had four male lovers and two female lovers and they are all now dead. I’m a vampire/werewolf hybrid, I was bit when I was seventeen, so I’m older than I look ’cause I’ve been a hybrid for about six years now. I had only been undead for a year when I was grabbed by the American government and they started doing experiments on me and they put a few modifications in me. I have four metal claws in my hands and three in my feet thanks to them, and they added a chip in my head so that I know how to use any and all weapons I come across without formal training. I was rescued from them by a wizard named Mordrid, and he taught me everything he knew, but he had me drinking these potions every day for my health and they had some side effects. I can change into any animal at will, and when ever I meet another ’super’ humanoid I absorb their powers without stealing them and with out harming the person.” By the time Nightshade had finished her story it was near midnight, and everybody was getting tired. Shigure said “ I would love to offer you all a place to stay for the night but we only have one extra room and there are five of you” “oh that’s ok we’re used to sharing one room, we had to do it for months at a time sometimes.” “great than it’s settled, you’ll stay here tonight and tomorrow Yuki Kyo and I will introduce you to more of the Sohmas” Tohru squealed.
