Disclaimer: Samurai Champloo and its characters do not belong to me (sigh). However, the OC Venom is my brainchild alone…but I'm not a good parent, so I can't be held responsible for her actions.
Reviews: Please read and review! I respond well if it's constructive…if it's not, I get a little cranky.

How was it that he came to be here, locked in combat with a woman equally as deadly in her beauty?

Onlookers hollered loudly, waving their betting slips and coins. Their incessant chanting and shouting couldn't be a distraction. He needed every available ounce of his concentration if he was to even come close to defeating this opponent.

Jin swung, catching the woman ninja's bladed fan with the edge of his katana. Her strength surprised him. She swiped her weapon away and leapt back outside of his sword's reach, another clever move.

This was to be a fight to the death, orchestrated by a gang of underworld gamblers. The stakes were immense. Not only would the winner claim the life of the loser, but they would also walk away with half of the house money for the fight. Jin remembered this as the reason ultimately behind why he found himself in this situation.

The thought had barely crossed his mind and she was upon him again, this time, throwing one fan like a boomerang, aimed directly for his throat. The thrust of her wrist sent it spinning quickly, but Jin had seen the move coming. He stepped to the side quickly, and with a swipe of his sword he caught the weapon and sent it to the arena's edge and out of his opponent's reach.

Relentless, she continued her attack. Her leg shot forward as she took to the air with a flying kick, which Jin partially absorbed with his shoulder. His other hand came up quickly to grasp the woman by the arm that held the twin fan to the one she'd lost. Within a moment, the tide of the battle had turned, and Jin found himself the aggressor as the ninja was pinned beneath him on the blood-splattered mat of the arena.

She panted heavily beneath him, her jade eyes ferocious and hard. A lone bead of sweat ran down Jin's forehead as he stared into those green eyes, which seemed now to swell with a different kind of intensity. There was no mistaking the look she gave him.

It was the same look of sorrow she imparted to him only hours before. Only then, the circumstances were much different…
