Distant Memories

Yukimura Sanada dismissed what was left of the 10 ninja accompaniment that had joined Kyo's party camped on the cliff.   Saizo was reluctant as usual to abandon his leader alone with memories of a past that haunted him.

   Regardless of his own feelings Saizo rejoined Sasuke in the cave and settled in for the night.   He watched the coals die down as he waited for Yukimura to come back.

   Okuni noticed the change in moods after Yukimura had told the story of his failure to protect Mizuki.   What he saw as a turning point in his career as a samurai was clearly more of a scar on his heart than he had revealed to the group.

   She had been around too many men in her life that buried those memories deep and never let others in.   It tore at her heart to see the suffering behind their eyes, suffering that mirrored her own loss of requited love.

   Listening to Yukimura share his scars with his traveling companions had touched her.   He'd tried to smile and reclaim the careless banter, but the sorrow was only too evident to her trained eyes.

   Now he had left his watchful guardians to suffer alone.   To remember.   Or to rather not let her die again.   Okuni stood and walked to the mouth of the cave.   In the moonlight she could see the trail clearly so she followed it.

   She felt a strange kinship to the Leader of the Sanada Ninjas.   It was no match to the love she felt for Kyoshiro or for Kyo.   It was also different from the gentle and easy manners she had with Benitora and Yuya.

   He was a man who held his secrets much the way she'd done for so many years.   Only he'd never been alone.   He'd always had the 10.   She'd made some choices that left her as an outcast from all she met.

   They both understood what it meant to look out for your personal interests above all others.   It made for a lonely existence even amongst a crowd.

   She found him about 1/4 of a mile up the trail.   He was propped against the side of the cliff with his eyes closed.

   She knew that he could feel her approach so she sat beside him without waiting for acknowledgement.   "So... Has my story inspired you to leave Kyo and finally seek out a whole man?"

   Yukimura smirked at her obvious annoyance.   He'd asked the question several times before and never pushed for a real answer.   She handed him a fresh bottle of sake and held out her cup.

   Knowing that he hadn't been without a drink when he'd left she'd thought he'd be a little further along in drowning out his past.   He still had a steady hand as he poured her drink.

   She drank daintily and watched him from the corner of her eyes.  He set the bottle down and leaned back against the rock.   She knew that he was comfortable with her silence and leaned against his shoulder to show that she'd wait with him.

   Okuni hadn't followed up the trail for more to his story or to justify the need to have told it, but to simply have the company.   Too often she'd been alone.

   After some time had passed he sighed and spoke out.   "Okuni-san, How old were you when the war came to the Sanadas?   When Tokugawa finally came to take us out..."

   "I was a child still, but not ignorant to the fact that the wars were spreading and the communities were in turmoil."   She poked him with her elbow.   "It's not nice to ask a lady her age you know."   She held out her cup.

   "Ahhh, so you were still innocent to the world!   She was still very much a child herself too.   Mizuki, I mean.   She'd had to grow up so fast outside the castle.   I'd have brought her to the castle someday.   Made her my bride.   Mother to the next generation of Sanada.   More likely, I'd have run away with her to a far away place and had nothing more to do with Japan and spent my days making her happy!"   He laughed and pushed his hair back.

   "Tell me Okuni-san, will you stay to hear more of her story?   I'd like to tell you I think that you would have liked her.   I don't know why you're still here, but it seems that the night is right to remember the past.   At times I think I can see a bit of her spirit in Yuya-chan, but sometimes in you as well."

   Okuni rolled her eyes at the obvious exaggeration.   She arranged her hakama around her and got more comfortable.   Yukimura moved so that they were back to back and took a long drink.   They drew warmth from each other for a few moments before he began his story again.

19 years earlier... (see scans I uploaded from SDK Volume 12 that tell the story surrounding the woman who was Yukimura's love it will explain what I'm leaving out while adding the lemon)

   "I was so happy spending time with Mizuki and the children of the town.   I felt like a man when I was with her, even if I still was ignorant of so much.   We shared meals together.   Just the two of us."

   "We'd had an informal courtship to say the least.   I loved her.   As a boy and as a man.   My loyalty was for her.   My desire was for her.   My life would have been hers."

   "As a trained, but untried samurai I knew what it was to be a man.   To carry on with the local courtesans.   But I'd never been to the brothel.   Mizuki's home was where I went to be happy, to relax, to escape from the Sanada name and the pressure that came with it."

   "She was so kind and gentle, yet stood firm against me!   Ha!   She'd get so mad, but I could always dance around her fire and turn it to laughter..."

   "She loved me back.   I never expected us to be permitted to stay together, but I wouldn't let the threat keep us apart.   I was hers and she gave her heart to me in return."

   "The moon was like it is tonight, on the night when we first made love.   It was like that the night she died too.   I guess that's why I have such a bittersweet taste in my mouth when I see the moon like this.   Maybe that's why I want to tell you the joy in the story as well as the sorrow that made me into a man."

   "There was only a small window in her room.   We'd finished the soup she'd prepared and I'd gone to the window while she tidied the room as always.   She joined me when she was finished."

   "She was so small she couldn't see the town well below her window, but she could look up at the moon.   I couldn't help myself when I saw how the moon lit up her features.   She was beautiful.   I'd snuck a few kisses from her before, but she'd always batted me away.   I think she was more afraid that she'd fall for me if she let me kiss her."

   "That night I pulled her close and wouldn't let her go.   I promised her the world and meant every word.   I told her that we could leave the Sanada name behind and go live off the land.   I'd have farmed and done what ever it took to make her happy.   She cried as she lifted her lips to mine."

   "In our minds and hearts I think we became a young husband and wife that night.   We kissed and tested each other under that moon.   We found our way to the pallet in the corner and she gave her self over to me."

   "She was so warm under my touches.   I couldn't believe the sensations that touching parts of her drew inside of me.   I felt my blood swirling and my sight blurring.   I lost consciousness with everything that wasn't her."

   "Mizuki pulled the ties from my hair and stroked it back.   Her hair was loose and spread around her head and shoulders.   She pulled at my clothes while I struggled to rid her of hers.   We were quite a sight!   We were clumsy and shy, but so full of love and plans for our future that we couldn't help but fall into fits of laughter at our efforts."

   "Being a carefree young man I made a decision and tore my own clothes off almost violently and pounced on top of Mizuki.   I couldn't take the time to not be touching her.   I pulled at the knots in her obi and only managed to make it worse by tightening everything.   She and I were laughing so hard that we'd almost forgotten the whole purpose of shedding the clothes.   The shyness was fading and we were back to ourselves."

   "I'd freed the top half of her and was ravaging her breasts.   I can still smell her perfume in the air as she wrapped her arms around me and held me close.   She was so soft!   I'd never dreamed anything could feel so delicate!   And I'd see her bathing plenty of times so the sight of her was burned into the back of my eyes.   I was so scared to bruise or damage her."

   "She traced the lines of my back with her small hands, sending shivers through me.   Her body was clinging to mine.   She'd freed one of her legs from the wrap of her kimono and had drawn her leg up to frame my hip.   Her heat was so close to me that I could feel her straining to connect."

   "My hands left her breasts to pull at her obi some more.   Her hands joined mine and we pulled and fumbled until I groaned all my frustration.   I leaned down and kissed her with all the pent up passion and agony that had been growing in my loins.   She moaned into my mouth and let my hands pull the fabric of the kimono to the sides and pull her undergarment off."

   "I didn't know at the time that the first time for her would be uncomfortable or cause any bleeding.   I suppose most of the men I'd heard talking about sex had never been with a virgin or hadn't cared about their partners.   I panicked when she cried out as I thrust into her.   I'd felt her barrier break and when I saw the blood my heart just sank."

   "I apologized and started to leave to get help when she stopped me.   She sniffed and smiled up at me.   She told me that she was ok and that the pain was only a little thing.   She hadn't realized that I too was inexperienced"

   "I was so hesitant to rejoin our bodies that I'd started to lose the erection that had so yearned for her.   Her hands reached for me and I responded quickly.   I was slower when I tried to re-enter her.   She winced and told me to push in all the way."

   "Once I was inside of her I could feel her muscles dancing over me.   I froze and let her cling to me until she told me it was really ok.   My eyes were closed and my teeth were clenched so tight I thought they'd break.   Her hips twitched and tested movement beneath me and the world spun."

   "We started to relax again together as the consummation of our love progressed.   We started so slowly and climbed to a fast pace that had all our nerves crying out for more.   She was so real.   I felt like the luckiest man in the world.   She was all mine and I'd protect her and lay with her every night for the rest of our lives!"

   "That first night together we didn't sleep.   After she laid in my arms following the first coupling I absentmindedly picked out the mess I'd made of the knot in her obi.   She watched me with dark eyes.   Once finally free of her clothing she and I took the rest of the night to learn more about each others bodies."

   "I left her company as the sun was rising."

   "I'd never been happier or more at peace with my life.   That's part of the tragedy of her story.   She and I planned to meet the next night.   That was the night that Ieyasu Tokugawa attacked the town. The night she was murdered."

~~~Back to the present...
   "Sooo..."  Yukimura trailed off and took a drink.   "So that's that!   We'd found true happiness and that bastard Tokugawa stole her life and ruined mine.   I'll see him in hell before I let Mizuki's story be forgotten."
   Okuni turned and cupped his face in her hand.   She had tears streaming down her face.
