The Sister I Never Knew
I woke up in a daze; things were extremely blurry. Everything looked white. I looked around and realized where I was. I hadn't recognized it the previous time because of my amnesia. I was in the confines of my mind; a totally bleach white world where I went to think.
I was lying on the ground, so I got to my feet and looked around for—
“Hiya there, Ivy!!” Judo. My little alter ego.
I smiled at the ten year-old version of me as she sat on her imaginary brick wall eating an orange. Things were painfully simple for me when I was that age, except for my problems controlling my powers of course. Everything was so much simpler before I met the Asakura boys.
“Hello Judo. What am I doing here?” I sat down next to her and smirked as I stole her orange.
“That was mine!!!” The spunky almost preteen whined.
“Oh, conjure up another one.” I ruffled her hair. `I always hated when people did that to me.'
“I-vy!! You know I hate that!!” She swatted my hand away with one hand and summoned another orange with the other.
`I was such a talented kid…' I smiled at Judo.
“I needed to talk to you…” Judo got down to business.
“I don't have time to talk about dolls or any other childish nonsense; I need to go see Yoh.” I laughed inwardly. `I hated dolls and all other girly objects when I was a child.'
“I'm serious!! I hate dolls, and this is important!!!!!” I could see that electrical energy was just about to explode out of her, and sure enough, the orange in her hand blew up. It splattered all over her in a million burnt, singed, and fried pieces. She growled softly, embarrassed at her lack of mastery over her powers.
“You have to learn to control that before you seriously hurt someone.” I teased.
Instead of having a fit like I thought she would, she teased back: “Learn to control it? I'd rather learn to control it myself than sell myself to Hao like you did.”
I could feel the blood rush to my face as I glared at the little brat. “Why you little!!!! Oh. My. GOD!!! I didn't `sell myself' to Hao!!!!” I was a breath away from stringing her up by the neck.
“Then define what you did.” Judo challenged.
“I-I…I am so gonna get you!” I lunged at her, but she ducked out of the way and appeared behind me somehow.
“Dude, Ivy. Chill. Actually I think Hao is cute.” Judo rested her face on her hands and looked thoughtful.
“You would.” I muttered, still glaring at myself. `God I was annoying…but so cute.' “And what of Yoh?”
“Yoh's dreamy!” Judo cried excitedly.
“Judo?”
“Hmm?”
“Who do you like better? If I were to say…marry….one of them. Not that I like Hao or anything. He's such a perverted jerk! It's just a hypothetical question.” I asked my younger self.
Judo raised an eye at me. “Right. Of course.” Judo rolled her eyes, but answered anyway, ignoring my childishness. “I personally like Yoh. He's such a hunk! Totally dreamy, a real charmer, adorable, cute, cuddly, gorgeous, and just plain in love with you. He's a good kisser too.”
“Wait. How would you know anything about how good a kisser he is?” I eyed her suspiciously.
“Oh, I kissed him the other day when he was here.” Judo replied simply.
“What?! How did he get here?! And why where you kissing him!?” I exclaimed, taking myself by the shoulders.
“Chill. I summoned him here when he was asleep. I needed to talk to him, and he needed to talk to you.”
“So you summoned him inside of my mind?! Never mind…you don't know how Judo that is.” I decided not to question Judo; she was too powerful for her own good.
Whatever she wanted she summoned no matter what time of day it was, and regardless of what or where the object was doing or was in the first place. `Like when I summoned Aikido just because I wanted to ask her what they did for entertainment back when she was alive.' Stupid childish question, but it got me a guardian ghost.
“Now why and how did you end up kissing him?!” I snapped back to reality and asked.
“I was practicing manipulating men for when I end up like you.” Judo stated as if it was obvious.
“What is that suppose to mean?!” I glared yet again at my sassy alter ego.
“I have no idea what Hao sees in you. He's completely obsessed with you, and you run off with his brother. Sad that such a great looking guy like Hao is going to waste away pining after you. How did you seduce him anyway? It doesn't seem like you tried, yet he's still hung up over you. You don't care that he's suffering do you? I think you like him though. It's written all over your face. You think he's sexy. I totally agree with you, but you obviously want him. Bad. Hehehe!!! `And you want to kiss him, baby like you miss him'—“ Judo started singing some song that I knew I had heard before, but couldn't remember who sang it.
I blushed bright red and was about to throw something at her, but then she stopped singing and started teasing again. “But you think the same thing about Yoh! HAHAHA!! Wow…you really are in deep! Hehehe!! I can't help but agree with you though; both are really good looking.”
“Oh shut up Judo…you have no idea what you're talking about…” I sighed as I smiled gently at my younger persona. “It's not about looks. Sure, that part of it, but…I can't explain it. I just can't go back to Hao. He's a perverted jerk, and a murderer, and just all around impossible to be around.” I sighed. “That's why I'm so in love with Yoh…he's everything that Hao's not: respectful, caring, compassionate, loving, and just…perfect…” I trailed off, trapped in my own thoughts.
“Sounds like you made your decision. Too bad that we'll probably end up with two suicide victims over this…” Judo moped.
“Hey didn't you want to speak to me about something?” I hadn't heard her previous comment.
“I wanted to talk about Hao and Yoh, but there's no point to it. You'll have to see when Hao comes for you again. He's finally snapped, and someone will die for this.” Judo stated morbidly, looking me straight in the eye without any emotion evident on her face.
“What?” I gasped.
“It's time for you…to WAKE UP!”
I sat straight up in bed and observed that I was back at Yoh's place. “What the heck was that?” I had had many conversations with Judo, but none more creepy and scary than this one.
I looked myself over and noticed the clothes and bandages. I wondered if I could stand. I looked at the clock and notice I had woken up at my usual time around noon. “Time for breakfast.”
I sighed, moaned, and groaned quietly as I descended the stairs in pain. My left leg was pretty beaten up, and I could barely limp on it. “God. It doesn't make sense how a stupid bunch of thorns could do this much damage. It's just my luck I suppose.” I mumbled and grumbled until I reached the dinning room door. Everyone was at the table eating and talking, and they didn't notice me standing in the doorway.
Everyone stopped talking and stared as I entered the room and took my place at the table between Yoh and Jun. “Hey Anna, could you pass the butter?”
Mouths dropped as the rest of the room looked at me in disbelief.
I looked totally clueless at them, “What? Are we out of butter or something? Because I have to have butter with my toast or else I can't eat it. It just too—“
“Ivy!” Yoh interrupted me, staring at me like he wasn't sure if I was really there or not.
“How can you talk about something as stupid and pointless as butter when you run away then come back a week later and pass out in front of the house like that?!” Ren rose to his feet and snapped angrily from across the table.
“It's not stupid!! You try eating toast without butter!” I shot up to my feet to challenge him, but fell over in pain, grabbing my left calf.
Yoh caught me and laid me in his arms. “Ivy…what happened to you? Where were you?” his eyes scanned my body, looking over all the cuts, scrapes, bruises, wounds, and hickies.
I looked up into his beautiful brown eyes, and saw the pain and suffering he had been through since I was gone. “What did Anna tell you?” I sat up but his arms remained around me.
I could see Anna flinch out of the corner of my eye as Yoh answered. “She told me that you said that you couldn't marry me. Then that you ran off saying you weren't coming back for your stuff, and that you were `unsure' of what you really wanted.”
“I…” I paused trying to think of a way to play with the words so that they suited my purpose. “I'm sorry, she probably didn't hear me right. It was really late, and we were both tired and a little out of it. Either I didn't say what I meant to, or she heard me wrong. What I wanted to say was that I couldn't marry you yet. I said I wouldn't come back for my stuff until I had made up my mind because I was unsure of what I really wanted.” Well that went pretty well. “You see, it was just a big misunderstanding. I probably forgot to say half of it or something, but it was all a communication error. I intended to come back the whole time, only after I had made my final decision, which regrettably I haven't made yet.” I looked down at my hands folded in my lap.
“But Ivy, where were you, and why are you so beat up like this?” Yoh pressed, probably wondering who gave me the hickies.
“I…I was out at night and I ran into Hao. He took me back with him, and I…somehow lost my memory. About the hickies, which I'm sure you've noticed. A great deal of them are from Hao, but while I was away, I was almost raped—“
Ren jumped to his feet, “Where is that bastard Hao?! I'll kill him for even thinking about raping my innocent baby sister!!”
“Chill Ren.” I rolled my eyes at his overacting. “It wasn't Hao. It was some other guy. Actually, Hao was the one who saved me.” I smiled slightly at the thought of Hao, but soon shook the thought and the smile and replaced them with a disapproving look. “I think the pervert said something about saving me for himself…anyway, about all the cuts and scratches; while I was on my way back, I kind of ended up in a briar patch. There were so many thorns, and the little devils somehow managed to rip up my poor boots, and open up that old scar on my left calf. Yeah, that's pretty much it.”
“God Ivy, never leave me again, even one week was too long.” Yoh gently embraced me, careful not to put too much pressure on any of my wounds.
“Way too long…” I sighed happy to be back in his embrace. “Now, can I get some food? I'm starving.”
Yoh chuckled softly at me and nodded, “Sure.”
“STOP!” A voice howled from across the table. All eyes turned to Anna.
“Anna?” Yoh questioned. “What's the matter?”
Anna looked pale, and I could tell she was headed toward a total breakdown. “Ivy, how can you just let me off the hook like this?! Why are you doing this?! Tell them what really happened!!”
All eyes shifted to me, demanding an explanation. “Anna, stop. It's my fault; I understand. I probably would have done the same thing in your position. I'm sorry, and no one has to know. I don't want them to think any less of you for it. Let's just forget that this whole mess ever happened and move on with our lives.” I begged.
“No! I can't just forget about it. You'll blackmail me later, won't you?! What do you want?!?!” Anna wailed, tears flying.
“I swear I wouldn't. I don't want anything from you…please, it doesn't matter any more. I—“
Anna interrupted me, screeching, “Just stop, Ivy!!! Tell them the truth!! I can't live like this any more!! Tell them how I made a deal with Hao. Tell them how I lured you out of the house so I could turn you over to him. Tell them about how I almost strangled you to death, but when I found you were still conscious, I hit you over the head. Tell them how I sold you to Hao because you were in my way!!!”
“ANNA!!” I cried, shocked that she would fess up right there in front of the whole gang. I could feel tears coming to my eyes as well.
“Anna?” Yoh looked at Anna horrified, praying that what she had said was just some kind of sick joke. Anna looked up at him and the look in her eyes told him everything. “Oh God Anna…why?”
“Because I love you Yoh!! Don't you get it?! I love you, and I'd die before I'd let her have you!!” Anna paused to sob. “What I can't figure out is why she didn't tell you at first! Why would you protect me Ivy?!”
I couldn't take it any more, so I angrily yelled. “BECAUSE I'M YOUR SISTER, DAMMIT!!!”
All the color drained from Anna's face.
“My name is Ivy Kyôyama!! Did you hear me?! Ivy KYOYAMA!!! Mom and Dad abandoned me the day I was born because of my horrific Shamanic powers. I couldn't control them, and many people died. I was a monster, and I was abandoned outside the Tao Compound. I was raised as Judo Tao, and almost a year ago, En Tao told me how my real parents left me. I set out to find my older twin sister, but first I ran into Hao. He promised that he could help me control my powers, so that's how I got involved with him. I just want to be a part of a family, Anna. I'm sorry that I didn't tell you earlier, but I wanted you to get to know me first. I'm sorry for keeping it from you, but now you know. I'm your sister…I'm your sister…”
I tried my hand at teleporting again, and this time managed to teleport to my room without any problems. I flung myself on the bed and started crying. `That could have gone better…'
Back downstairs in the dinning room, Anna mumbled, “My own sister…and I…Oh God…” She fell in a dead faint, and Yoh just barely made it over on the other side of the table to catch her in time.
“Well this is a fine mess…” Ren mumbled as he calmly took a sip of milk.
