Blood-soaked
I had a horrible dream that night. I dreamt that I was standing outside a Church, and I was covered in blood. Ivy was there too; she was also covered in blood. Ivy clutched my shoulders and the expression on her face said it all: “Hao…how could you? Why did you do it? Oh Hao…No…” She looked at me, pity and fear filling her eyes. She was scared for me. I couldn't tell what had happened. Did I finally end it? Was she upset about my death? Ivy was as unreadable as ever, and I couldn't tell. I looked around, and found a sword in my hand. It too was covered in blood. I also saw Yoh lying on the ground unconscious, also covered in blood. Had I killed Yoh? Or was he just knocked out? I couldn't tell. Then I was left wondering why Ivy was covered in blood. `She had probably been holding a dying Yoh in her arms up until his death, and he had probably accidentally smeared some blood on her.' Ivy's eyes bore into mine; she was disappointed in me, but she somehow remained calm. That calm shook me to my very soul.

I awoke suddenly, but even while awake, I could see those calm, unblinking eyes. She was still staring at me. It was most unnerving.

I sat up in bed, and tried to assess what time it was. I figured it was right about ten o'clock. I could tell this from looking at Opacho's digital alarm clock sitting on a near-by nightstand. I hadn't known that he had an alarm clock.

I had been sleeping in lately: an annoying human habit that I was determined to break. I got out of bed and slipped on a fresh set of clothes. I had been sleeping in Opacho's tent ever since Ivy had gone; I couldn't take sleeping in that bed without her, and Luca and Opacho were determined to watch me even in my sleep.

I walked outside the tent and made my way to the kitchen area. Opacho and Luca were probably starting on making lunch by now. As I approached, I heard my two followers conversing, and what they said made me stop out of their sight and eavesdrop.

“Well, today's the day, Opacho.” Luca started.

“Yes…how sad. Poor, poor Hao; he doesn't deserve this at all…” Opacho sighed as he handed Luca some cooking ingredient that somewhat resembled lettuce.

“Poor Master. He may be thousands of years old, but in this life he's still just a child. I don't care how powerful or strong or knowledgeable he is, he's still just a child. He won't take this well when he finds out…” Luca chopped up the lettuce-like substance and sprinkled it into a pot on the stove.

“He'll probably try to kill himself again…” Opacho added some salt to the pot. “Opacho doesn't want Hao to die…Opacho hates to see Hao like that!” The poor thing was sobbing at the thought of losing me. “Sometimes Opacho wishes that Ivy had never met Yoh! Opacho doesn't want Hao to die!!”

“Shhhh, Opacho. You'll wake him with such boisterousness.” Luca patted Opacho softly on the head, trying to comfort him. Opacho quieted down considerably, and got down from his stepladder to get some more ingredients.

Luca continued, “I agree with you though, it would have been better if Ivy hadn't of ran off and met Yoh, but then if she didn't meet Yoh, Hao would not have become so jealous, and Hao would still be that bratty, mean, stubborn, violent creature that we first teamed up with. She's changed him, Opacho. She's changed him for the better.”

Opacho ascended his stepladder, and handed Luca some vinegar and cooking oil. “What time is it?”

“About ten.”

“Can we go to the wedding? Opacho wants to see Ivy in a wedding dress. She will look beautiful. Opacho bets she will have her hair up and everything! Opacho wants to see Ivy all fancy. Opacho always thought that Ivy would make a beautiful bride.” Opacho smiled sadly as he stirred the mixture.

“Don't be ridiculous. If we went to Ivy's wedding, we would be traitors.” Luca rolled his eyes at Opacho.

`Wedding!?' my entire body felt numb, and my mind refused to make sense of anything. I felt sick. I stepped out of my hiding place and confronted the two of them with a serious expression on my face. “You better tell me what's going on right now.”

My sudden appearance startled the both of them, and they began to stutter and panic. “Master!” “What is Hao doing here?!” “We weren't doing anything, I swear!” “Luca is right! Nothing is happening here at all!”

If I still had had my powers, I would have burst into raging flames. They could see the familiar enraged look on my face, and both fell into silence. “Tell me what's going on.” I ordered again.

Opacho and Luca looked at each other. Then they looked at me. Then back at each other; to me again. Finally Opacho decided to talk. “Opacho had a premonition. He saw Ivy getting married at the Patch Church. Opacho didn't say anything because he didn't want to upset Hao.”

“Ivy is getting married to Yoh today at twelve o' clock. It was Anna's idea to get them married before you got your powers back. She knew that you wouldn't steal your brother's wife, so…well we didn't tell you because we knew you wouldn't have your powers back in time, and we didn't want to hurt you or let you get hurt. I'm so sorry Hao, but I'm afraid you've lost her…”

Something inside of me snapped at the thought of MY fiancée marrying my own brother. “No. I refuse to give her up that easily! What time is the wedding?!”

“It starts at twelve.” Opacho supplied. “Why does Hao ask?”

“Okay, and what time do I get my powers back at?!” I looked expectantly at Luca.

“Around one or one thirty. They won't all come back at once, and you won't be able to use them right away. What are you thinking Master?” Luca studied my face, trying to decipher what I was plotting.

I ignored them and started walking away, mumbling to myself. “I can make it just in time to stop the wedding, but my powers won't be back in time to kill that brother of mine…I'll have to fight him hand to hand, but I can probably best him in a sword fight if he doesn't use that samurai…”

Luca heard my muttering and sprung into action. The action of running his mouth, “Hao! You can't!! You can't do this; you'll be killed!! You don't have any powers to protect yourself with, and besides, those friends of his will kill you if you harm Yoh! This cannot end well for anyone, Master! Please reconsider!!” I turned back to face Luca, and the look in my eyes said everything.

“I'll make up an antidote and be along after you shortly. I just hope I make it in time…I don't think I will, but…good luck Master.” Luca smiled sadly at me as he shut off the stove and rushed to his tent to make an antidote to his power-stealing potion.

I grabbed a pair of swords and made my way to the Church. I wouldn't lose her. I refused to give her up to Yoh.
