Shaman King Fan Fiction ❯ Living In Shadows ❯ Bones ( Prologue )
Prologue: Bones
Her eyes were colder then ice and sharp and her facial features looked of a long lasting sadness. Her long ebony colored hair was tied up in a ponytail with a crimson hair band and she wore a black kimono with red trimming and a white bow around her waist. Around her neck she had a small vile of blood on a silver chain and in her left hand she held a skull with empty black eye sockets and a spooky grin on its face.
He stood in front of her trembling slightly, her morbid beauty was more then enough to make chills go up his spine. He didn't dare make eye contact with her, if eyes could kill then he'd be dead where he stood.
Her smile was eerie to gaze at and her voice was a quick harsh whisper, "I hear you have a job for me."
He nodded waveringly, "A-ah, y-yes as a m-matter of fact I do." he stammered to the teenage girl. He felt her eyes upon him, scanning him, knowing of all his deeds.
"How may I be of service to you then?" She held the skull of her face and rested her cheek on it as if it were some sort of pillow.
He looked at the skull, its vacant eyes were bottomless. He also saw that her fingernails were pointed and painted black and her hand had some type of henna all over it. Everything about her seemed dark.
The man cleared his throat, "I've heard you're good at your job."
She tilted her head away from the skull, "It depends on who you ask, some of my employers did not see fit to my methods."
"Well your methods are not the issue here," he said slowly, "It's just the matter whether you get your job done."
She brought the skull close to her face, "Did you hear that? He wants to know if we can do our job." She chuckled darkly then stared back at the man, stroking the skull, "No need to worry so much, you should really learn to rely on others."
"So can you?" he asked ignoring the fact that she had been talking to the skull. "There's five of them I want dead, it might not be easy, they're all shaman."
"I'm a necromancer, the fact they are shamans are meaningless to me," she replied coolly, "Are you forgetting that killing someone is an easy task for me? And my price is quite steep though, 80,000,000 yen per person if you can't pay it then leave now."
His face grew pale, "80,000,000 yen…" he trailed off, "That's a little much don't you--"
"I expect you to have all 400,000,000 yen by the time I'm done." A deadly black aura began emitting around her body and the ground beneath them began rumbling. He saw a figure raise with sharp teeth, and glowing red eye slit with long claws and a deformed body appear next to her. "If you don't have by the time I'm done, I'll have you killed."
He nodded curtly, his eyes as wide as saucers staring at the monster beside her that was gnashing its fangs at him.
"But," she said, "I have one condition."
"What is it?" he finally brought his eyes up to hers and froze, they possessed such coldness and darkness, but there was still a lingering of childishness deep in them.
Her voice grew faint and distant, "I want to keep their corpses."
"Alright then," he said after an uneasy silence had passed, "You can do that if you wish, my only concern is if they are dead or not."
"I assume we have a deal then Kuro." she said quietly not taking her eyes off of him and smirking.
"Yes, I suppose so Sasori." he agreed and turned away, "Are you sure you can handle this?" he questioned glancing back over his shoulder to find that she was gone as was the demonic creature.
He spotted a piece of folded paper on the ground and bent down and picked it up. He carefully unfolded it an written on it with bold in big cursive letters was, 'Your bones will be mine to keep'. He stared at it, uncertain what it meant, but that second the paper burst into flames in his very hand and fell to the ground in a pile of ash.
She watched him from high above a building, in the safety of the shadows. "Watch him for me." she commanded the demon next to her, "I don't want him planning anything behind my back." The demon jumped down from the building and followed Kuro as he walked away from the scene.
She turned away from the building's edge taking the hair band out of her hair and letting it blow freely in the wind of the night, the sleeves on her kimono fluttered in the breeze. The stars above in the midnight sky twinkled brightly and the moon shinned surreally.
The skull in her hands eye began glowing and blood started dripping from its eye sockets.
She held it up to her face again, "Don't worry, I'll give you more souls soon," she said in a soothing tone. "But first, we must go to Funbari and do what the nice man asked us, darling."
The skull made a rattling sound and its teeth began chattering.
Sasori tucked the skull into her sleeve, "I promise darling, you'll have your fill of souls soon."
