Shaman King Fan Fiction ❯ Rules Of Shamanism ❯ Prologue ( Chapter 1 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

Note to readers: I have written yet another fan fic. This one is dedicated to Ms. Carlson for giving me the idea of a Tamao x Horo Horo story. This story takes place a little less than a month after Tamao is introduced in the manga. You don't have to read the manga to understand this, but it would help. I'm making Tamao a little less shy than she is in the manga (i.e I won't have her speaking through boards or through her ghosts).Like in my last fan fic (which I should be revising) this is a realistic story. There's no dungeons and dragons stuff trying to get our heroes. This is perfectly plausible, I'm just putting Horo Horo and Tamao into it. I hope you enjoy this story.

Prologue

In the bright room, shadowed by a large lamp, a man sat in the corner, partly shrouded in the brightness. He was dressed in a simple yukata. A woman sat across from him; she was dressed in more elaborate clothing. She was obviously very rich. The woman fidgeted in her chair; this place made her feel nervous. She had heard about the man's reputation; he was the absolute best in his field. The man had no name; he was known only as Kyoukan.

Kyoukan stood and picked up a bottle that was sitting on the stand next to his chair. “Would you like something to drink?” said Kyoukan. The woman nodded. When Kyoukan offered you something, you didn't refuse. “Good. I think you'll like this.” From the bottle he poured a clear liquid into two small glasses. He walked over to the woman, handed her one of the glasses, and sat back in her chair. “It's a German brandy called Erschlagen.” The woman took a sip and immediately coughed and hacked. Kyoukan chuckled. “Sorry , it's a little strong.”

“You're telling me,” said the woman, her voice hoarse. She set the glass onto the table next to her chair.

“Well, let's get down to business,” said Kyoukan after drinking the liquor in one gulp. “I understand that you need my services.” Kyoukan and the woman talked in a prior meeting. They discussed plans of how to carry out the mission, and the woman told Kyoukan that she would help him out in as many ways as possible.

“Yes,” replied the woman. “I need you to do this job for me. It's the person I told you about.”

“Mm-hmm,” mumbled Kyoukan.

“I can get a drawing, if recognition is a problem.”

“That won't be necessary,” said Kyoukan. “I know what this person looks like.”

“Good,” said the woman. “Can you do it?”

“Yes,” replied Kyoukan after a moment of silence. “But this is going to be high profile, and I want to avoid attention. I have to go into hiding for a long time after this. Plus, because of who the person is, it's going to cost you… a lot.”

“Money is no object. How much?”

Kyoukan thought for a moment. “One million yen,” he replied.

“Done,” said the woman.

“Good. Now, I'm going to need to plan this perfectly. Is there any deadline? Do you need this done at a certain time?”

“I want this done as soon as possible,” the woman said.

“Okay. I can work quickly. I'll need intelligence to form my plan. Basically, I'm going to need to get into the mansion somehow.”

“Oh don't worry about that,” said the woman. “I can get into the mansion easily, without arousing any suspicion. I already have a plan.”

“Excellent,” smiled Kyoukan. “One last order of business… I'll need an advanced payment. I want half now.”

“That can be done,” said the woman. That was a lot of money to put up front, but she had no choice. This had to be done.

“I want ten thousand yen in cash, the rest can be in silver and valuables.”

“Great,” said the woman, with a menacing smile. “I'll have the money to you by the end of the week.” She shook Kyoukan's hand to seal the deal.

“It's a pleasure doing business with you,” said Kyoukan.
