Dark and light as one
By: Dark fire angel
Dark angel: Here I am again! With another fic! *Stops to think* Actually I didn't expect people would like what I write, but as you do, I've decided to do this short fic that has been hovering round my head like a fly…man… does it never happen to you guys that when you get weird idea into your head, you can't seem to get rid of it until you write it down on paper or on computer, like in my case? *Suddenly holds her hands together as she continues* I believe none of you have ever wondered `bout my name, why Dark angel? If you read this fic, you might figure it out…
Disclaimer: Damn, stupid thing… do you really think I'd be writing F/X stuff if I owned them or the Slayers? Noooo *Shakes her head violently* Nope… I don't own them… *Winces visibly* Hate to have to admit it though… sigh T-T

The sun was going down, it's beautiful and bright light bathing the dark trees of certain forest as only a single person, (If he is actually allowed to be called a person), sat, watching it fall from it's spot in the high up branch of a specially darkened tree.
Xellos watched the sun fall and get eaten by the earth intensely; light and dark, two forces so similar… and yet, so distant and far apart, one could even take the risk of calling them the two sides of one same coin. Dark and light could not live the one without the other, but couldn't coexist together, could they?
The mazoku heaved a long sigh, why did these thoughts bother him now and not before? Should he actually allow himself to think? Well… after all, if he didn't allow himself the privilege to think about things, about life itself and its meaning, then he… he would be doomed. It wasn't easy to keep the world blocked from oneself, not at all easy, for it had taken him years upon years to build a barrier around his body, his emotions… emotions? Yes, feelings… who said mazoku couldn't have those?
It was a common belief that demons could not feel, but it wasn't as true as some would have liked… emotions were dangerous in the every day like of a member of darkness, therefore, they were taught to hold them back and to never show them, however, they were still present, still there, even if was only faintly…
Xellos continued to watch the sun, one could think that light and dark was an impossible combination, but he was watching such a combination as he sat. The light of the sun fused itself with the darkness of the night only twice a day, and everyone, even mazoku, had to admit that they were the two most beautiful and incredible times of day; sunrise, and sunset.
Those were also two very interesting concepts, sunset, the favorite of the two for mazoku, was the only time of day when dark was finally able to win its eternal battle with light; the only time of day when it engulfs light with its strength, hoping its realm will last for ever.
However, sunrise comes and light wins the battle again; sunset and sunrise, yeah… nice concepts, or so thought Xellos as he watched night come and settle around him. A bit like him and her, now wasn't it? Sometimes he won small battles, sometimes she won small battles… always in eternal fighting, always in eternal hatred… or so it should have been, the only problem was that for he made a mistake along the process; who could have imagined that the dark would be able to fall in love with the light? Not him, that for sure. Nevertheless it happened, and now he was condemned to live with said mistake forever, for when a demon fell in love, it was forever, and ever, and ever…
Xellos let out a long howl of pain as he continued to stare off into darkness, while a single tear found its way down his cheek, 'for ever yours…' he thought with sadness

Filia stuck her head out of the window of her bedroom, allowing the cool breeze to blush her cheeks slightly and swirl her long golden hair around her. Such nice feelings... like being caressed by the one who would never do such a thing.
She heaved a sigh as she watched the beautiful sunset that spread before her, she always watched it, for it reminded her of him; the one who held darkness within his heart... wait a minute, did he have a heart? Was it possible for a mazoku to posses a heart?
These concepts should not worry her, but they did... dark and light, why? They were only concepts, after all, nothing to worry about, as long as she followed her instincts and did the correct thing. But the trouble was; what was the correct thing to do in such a situation? Should she follow her heart and hope? Or should she listen to her elders' voices and keep him away? How could she ever return and explain that the light had fallen in love with the dark? They would vanish her for such a sin or maybe, something worse.
Filia shook her head, as the sun finished its trip and hid under the earth, leaving it in complete darkness... or maybe not. The Golden dragon stared up into the sky and smiled; the moon. It was sufficient to light even the darkest night... did that mean that even a creature such as him might have some kind of light within? Maybe...
Her thoughts were interrupted as a long, sad howl pierced the night air, leaving a dead still silence behind it.
The dragon maiden stared into the darkness of the night as she frowned, 'Poor creature... sounds so lonely, wish I could help it... wish someone would help me too.' she suddenly put her hands around her mouth imitating a loudspeaker, and howled, letting some of her feelings flow through.
After finishing, she went down stairs, through the door, and out into the forest, she didn't care anymore about what could happen, she would follow her heart and her instincts! She didn't give a dam about her elders, to hell with them! She didn't care, as she ran along the cool night.

Xellos continued to think his life in and out, until he heard a long howl answer his, and his head shoot up. That had been no wolf... he thought frantically as he searched the forest ground, no, that howl hadn't come from a wolf, but… the other option left implied that light herself had answered his call, it meant that his angel came towards him.
Sure enough, there, below him, looking around herself, was his angel, surrounded with a shinny white aura, and then, he heard her call to him softly, "Xellos… I know you're here somewhere, I feel your presence call to me, come out… please, for I call to you as well, and shall wait for as long as you might need." with that she sat down on the forest floor, hugging her knees to her body, in a mild attempt to keep warm as she waited for darkness to surround her completely.
Xellos watched from his tree, until the loneliness and sadness washed over him… it was not fair to make her suffer, plus, if she was brave enough to came to his call, he should respond in the same way to her. Therefore, he teleported down, and stood a few feet from her, until she raised her gaze to meet his, and smiled at him, "You came… I hoped you would…" she was cut mid-sentence when suddenly Xellos wrapped his arms around her, holding his angel close to him as he stroked her long golden hair, "You are aware that this wont be easy, right?" he asked her as she returned the hug, nodding slightly, "And even though you know this, you still want to go on?"
Filia nodded again and hushed him by placing a delicate kiss on his lips, "Light and dark," she said as she put her head back on his chest, "Good and evil… they are nothing but concepts… nothing which is pure good or pure evil may exist, for there is always a balance that must be followed for life to continue." She smiled softly and looked back into his amethyst gaze.
Xellos nodded, "Concepts…" he murmured into her hair as he held her even closer. Yes, only concepts, and the night agreed with them as a solitary owl hooted somewhere in the forest…
