Plans

"He's asleep now, although I doubt that was a very smart reaction to have around someone who acts like a scared deer whose had a bit too much sugar," Xellos said.

"I don't care if he's jumpy, those were serious scars. How the hell does one put a burn mark on a chimera made of stone?"

"The obvious method, magic. I think what were worried about, and should be quieter while talking about, is why its there."

"He had whip marks on him, and slash wounds."

"Those could be explained by where I found them, ogres will use any kind of weapon once they know how to use it. If they see a person hurting another in a new way, they will learn that new method then drag both people off and torture both of them and then eat them. They probably just learned how to use a whip from a previous meal."

"You're not making me feel any better."

"Oh, I was supposed to? You could have told me that earlier so I could tell you a bunch of lies instead. I thought we were supposed to be making Zelgadis feel better."

"Just shut up for a while. I'll go put a sleep spell on him and finish bandaging him up. By then Gourry should get here from Sylphiel's and he can try and cheer him up."

"Gourry?"
"He's too dumb to bring up the wrong question, besides, he can get Sylphiel to do anything, so he's bringing some medial textbooks, potions, and even food and recipes."

"No, I just thought you would have brought him with you. He follows you like a cute little puppy dog, You know the long skinny brown ones with the floppy ears and short legs and long noses and look really cute in bows-"

"Xellos!"

"Oh, sorry. Wait, I thought I sent a letter to one more of you."

"Amelia is going to show up after tonight, she had to get herself out of a lot of things everyone had scheduled for her in Seyruun."

"It looks like we're worse off than we started." Rosencrantz said, sighing.

"Thanks to you kid."

"How many times do I have to tell you that I didn't attract them? Ogres do not attract other Ogres, they rely on sound and sight, not scent."

"You were sure making a lot of noise."

"I didn't know they were there, for the hundredth time! Besides, you got a kick out of the show."

Guildenstern said nothing. He couldn't argue. Every time he tried, it was harder to pin the blame on his partner. He decided to give up before his partner turned the tables on him.

"The thing we should be thinking about is either how to get more money, or how to track that mazoku, we don't want to get in his way. We need some time to recover to go up against him. It'll take a powerful spell to do him in and we either need to buy it or save our strength for it."

"But how do we find him? Where the hell do mazoku go after blasting a nestful of ogres? And how the hell do we even know he didn't kill our meal ticket?"

"Easy. I heard him saying something to it. He called it a name and then I heard it make a noise. I think it might be a pet or something."

"I think we need a back up plan while we're still looking for him."

"Lina Inverse is in town, that should be good money."

"How?"

"Usually she has princess with her, and whoever she offs won't need their wallet. We just have to rob them behind her back."

"Makes sense."

"Zel, Zel, it's okay, stay asleep, you're tired. I'm just going to sit on the bed and watch you while you sleep, is that okay? If it's okay, stay asleep."

Zelgadis sighed and rolled over.

"I knew it was okay. You have soft pretty hair. You're very pretty."

Zelgadis kicked in his sleep and made a frightened peep.

"No, no, no. I'm not them, it's okay. Here." Xellos placed a hand on the chimera's head and Zel let out a contented sigh as the spell chased away the nightmares.

"Now you be good and sleep well. You're fever's going up, that's not good. You make that bad fever go down, and I'll watch you, is that okay? If it's okay, do nothing."

Zel did nothing, he was fast asleep and there was nothing to scare him, thanks to Xellos's spell.

"I knew it was okay."
