Slayers Fan Fiction ❯ Roses ❯ Dragons ( Chapter 6 )
Dragons
"Hold on!" Xellos yelled. He grabbed Zelgadis tightly, and cast a protection spell, keeping the debris from hitting them.
The room tilted ninety degrees and tumbled to the ground.
Xellos held the spell, and Zelgadis, as the third and fourth stories crumbled on top of them.
After the floors split over the protective bubble and crashed around them, the large beams fell around them, then there was the small debris, then the dust cleared, Xellos still kept the protective bubble around him and Zelgadis.
Finally, when everything settled, Xellos let the protective spell dissipate.
"I can't run," Zelgadis whispered.
"It's all right." Xellos said. "I'll protect you. I promise."
"I wouldn't make promises you can't keep." Someone said.
Xellos and Zelgadis turned their heads to see who it was, and they both recognized him, in different ways.
Zelgadis recognized him. He couldn't not recognize him after what he did. He made Zelgadis want to retch. But when did he have wings?
"So you're the one responsible for hurting him." Xellos said, noticing Zel's face. Xellos recognized him as a dragon, even without his wings out, Xellos would have recognized him. But this was a mixed breed. Part ogre as well as dragon. So there were dragons about. "What you did to him … if I ever see another dragon again, I'll kill them on the spot!"
Zelgadis was confused. But then who wouldn't be? What the hell was Xellos talking about? Did Xellos like him, like that? After what had happened? And by a dragon no less?
No, he couldn't.
"Useless," the dragon muttered as Xellos prepared a spell.
The dragon took his pose, and sent a blinding, and extremely powerful Ra Tilt at Xellos.
Xellos was thrown back into a large tree, denting the poor thing, the light of the Ra Tilt swept over him, ripping pieces off.
"It was nice of that princess of whatever to save us the trouble of finding you. Once she mentioned a chimera, getting our bounty back was quite easy," the dragon said, watching the last of the Ra Tilt rush over Xellos.
Xellos collapsed as he fell from the dented tree. He was covered in dark purple blood. His left shoulder had almost been completely ripped away, as well as parts of his left foot and right leg. His right arm was gone half way from the elbow to the hand. large cuts covered him, parts of his skin had been ripped of. About half the Mazoku had been torn away in that one spell.
"Damn you," he muttered, watching the dragon pick up Zelgadis, who was screaming for Xellos to get up and do something.
He couldn't move his head to keep himself from watching as the dragon flew off.
Guildenstern was doing a fairly good job at fighting two sorceresses and an expert swordsman, especially one with the sword of light.
It wasn't a real Sword of Light. It was a plain metal sword that was just as powerful and produced the same magic; they found it after raiding a bandit camp one day. They had been looking for where it had come from, then they both got letters from Xellos saying Zelgadis was very sick.
A rock hit Guildenstern in the head and he looked up, Rosencrantz was flying away. The rock was the signal to get the hell out of here, though it wasn't meant to hit him in the head.
Guildenstern decided to scold Rosencrantz later and flew off.
"What the hell? Get back here! Dragon Slave!" Lina screamed, throwing the spell at him. He dodged and the spell dented a nearby mountain.
"Only heroes of Justice are supposed to dodge and use tricks!" Amelia yelled.
"I don't think he can hear you." Lina said.
"Is the hotel supposed to be on fire?" Gourry asked.
"Of course it-what?" Lina yelled.
"Xellos-san!" Amelia yelled. "Lina-san, are Mazoku nonflammif-nonflamm-fireproof? Hey! Wait for me!"
Lina was already running over to the burning remains of the hotel. If Xellos were all right, the dragons wouldn't have lasted five seconds.
"Xellos-san!" Amelia screamed, seeing the Mazoku crawling over burning wreckage slowly. She ran over and started a healing spell, but he drew back, screaming. "What's wrong?"
"Burns … Don't … Pain."
"Amelia!" Lina yelled. "Mazoku are on the black magic side of the spectrum! What are doing using a white magic spell on him?"
"Um, I don't know."
"Gourry, what are you doing? Don't tell me you left your wallet in the room." Lina said, watching Gourry dig through the rubble.
"Xellos is looking for something, so I thought I might help him."
"What's Xellos looking for?"
"I don't know."
"Idiot!" she yelled, hitting him one the head.
"Xellos-san, is there something your need?"
Xellos coughed up blood. "Pretty … Roses." He coughed up blood twice more and then collapsed.
"Was that supposed to happen, Lina-san?"
"What pretty roses?"
"Zzzzz" Xellos said, not too contentedly.
"So you finally punched it out."
"Yeah. Stupid thing was squirming around so much I nearly broke its neck. By the way sorry about the rock."
"Oh, so you knew you messed up with that?"
"Yeah, I was aiming for the blond guy, but this thing threw me off."
"Well, take the weakening spell off of him or he'll die before we get paid."
"But he'll still be sick."
"Yeah, but he'll survive. And let's just hope he doesn't wake up."
"What happens if he does?"
"Then he'll complain throughout the trip."
"We'd better find a hotel soon, we'll need to set out early tomorrow."
"Why?"
"Rumors of dragons from the town will spread quickly, we'd better look like humans, or we'll get more trouble."
"Sometimes, kid, you act smarter than you look."
"So, one dragon-thing burnt the hotel down looking for Zel, and then left with him." Gourry said. This would have been surprising if it weren't the thirteenth time the concept of `dragons, and `the dragons want Zel' had to be explained to him.
"Finally, you put that much together!" Lina said.
"And the other dragon was distracting us by fighting, right Lina-san."
"Right. Now, if only we knew what the hell the dragons wanted with Zel, this would make sense."
"What happened to Xellos, then?" Gourry asked.
"Amelia says it was a Ra Tilt, a very, very, very, powerful one."
"What's a Ra Tilt?"
"You idiot! How can you forget a very powerful shamanistic spell at this time?"
"Oh, is it that sparkly white flashy thing that looks like lightning?"
"Yeah, that's basically it."
"Oh, what does it do?"
"It zaps Mazoku, idiot!"
"Maybe Xellos-san knows why they want Zelgadis-san."
"Yeah, but I don't think he's well enough to make himself fall off the bed. The trouble is, we need to know where those dragons are headed."
"They went west."
"I know that, I mean what city they want to get to!"
"What are dragons doing around here? Is there another prophecy thing?" Gourry asked.
"I don't know."
"What are those roses for?"
"I don't know."
"Lina, I'm hungry."
"I don't know."
