Chapter 16: Love's legacy

Matrix was running around the apartment that Amber and he had. It had been three years since the two's meeting, and that day, the two had got married.

"Mmmaaaxxx," a voice called in pain.

"Yes, Amber?" Matrix said, looking around the corner of the doorframe at her. She stood looking at him in pain. "Oh no!" He said, and he grabbed her hand and the two vanished.

Seconds later, at the hospital…

"We'll look after her, sir," said a nurse. "The doctor will be here soon."

Amber was pregnant with twins, and while Matrix was waiting, he phoned his friends and family.

"I'm at the hospital with Amber. Get the others." Matrix said over the phone. He put the phone down.

Shadow was the first to get there with his wife. He had met and got married to Elva Keeper, a green echidna, and a year ago, the two had a son named Spike. He was an only child, and he looked a lot like Shadow, but had green stripes and eyes. It was an hour later when the doctor walked out. In that time, the others had arrived.

"The father can go in now," the nurse said, walking up to Matrix.

Matrix walked slowly into the room where Amber was in. He saw Amber on the bed, sleeping, and he saw another two beds next to her. One had a light blue color to it, and the other had a pink color. Matrix walked over to them and looked inside both. There lay in the small beds was two baby hedgehogs, a girl and a boy.

The girl was a mix of a hedgehog and echidna. She was orange all over and over both of her eyes, she had two yellow lines, like her mother, and she had two dreadlocks on the side of her face like echidna. Her quills were pointed down like her father, and she had stripes of red like her father. The boy was a pure white hedgehog, no makings.

"What to call them…" Amber said weakly, and Matrix looked up at her and nodded.

"I think she's like her mother," Matrix said, and Amber smiled. Then the idea came to Matrix. "Spirit."

"What about her twin brother, Max?" Amber asked, looking at the other little hedgehog.

"What about Light?" Shadow's voice said as he looked at the boy over Matrix's shoulder.

Matrix and Amber looked at him. "Good name," the two new parents said in union.

Suddenly, a doctor walked in. "Excuse me, sir, but can your friend here please go for a minute?"

Matrix asked Shadow nicely to wait outside. Ten minuets later, Matrix hit the door open and ran out.

Shadow walked in and walked over to Amber, and he asked her, "Amber, what is it?" He saw her crying.

Over the three-years, Max, Amber, and his new family had all become very good friends.

"Oh, Shadow, the doctor said that I can never have any more children, and they have the same none ageing thing Max has." She said.

Shadow looked at her. He walked up to her and put his arms around her. "Ssshhh, it's okay." Shadow said, trying to help her. {Oh, I'm sorry, I know how you're feeling.} "My son Spike has the same thing too." Shadow told her in a whisper.

Because Shadow and Sonic's connection with the Chaos Emeralds and turning into their Super forms over a long time has had an effect on them.

"What are you saying, Tails?" Sonic shouted, "That me and Shadow are not going to age?" Tails just nodded.

Robotnik was in the room, and he looked at how mad Sonic was getting. "OUT!" He shouted.

Sonic looked at Robotnik. "Great." Sonic stormed out of the room. Knuckles was about to go talk to Sonic.

"Knuckles, don't!" Shadow said. He was watching Sonic out of a window.

Knuckles looked at the black hedgehog's face, and his face had all the signs of pain. {He'll outlive me.} Knuckles thought.

Shadow found Matrix sitting on a rock four miles away from Station Square.

"Why my kids, Shadow? Why?" Matrix asked in the cold wind. Matrix turned to face Shadow. He had no tears, but something that Shadow had not seen in his friend's eyes for a long time. It was revenge.

"Max, revenge is not the answer!" Shadow said.

"I'll get Grey this time and stop him once and for all!" As he finished, Matrix slowly stood.

"NO, Max!" Shadow said, "I of all people know want you're going through! Please don't!" Shadow grabbed Matrix's arm.

Matrix looked into Shadow's red eyes. {It's a good thing he survived.}

Super Sonic and Super Shadow hovered out in space. They had just stopped the Prototype of the Ultimate of life form, Biolizard. It had tried to destroy Mobius by controlling the ARK.

"Sonic, Shadow, we're still going to crash!" Tails screamed over the com-link.

"Come on, Shadow!" Super Sonic called, flying over to the falling space colony.

"CHAOS CONTROL!!" the two Super forms shouted in space.

There was a bright green flash and the ARK vanished, then seconds later, it reappeared again.

As Super Sonic flew back to the ARK, unseen to him was Super Shadow, falling to Mobius.

As he floated backwards, he thought, {I kept my promise to you, Maria. This is what you wanted, right?} As Shadow felt the atmosphere hit his body, he cried out in pain.

{Pain is followed by death.}

"Who said that?" Shadow cried out louder.

{Tell me, Ultimate life form, do you wish to see her again?}

"YES!"

{Good.}

Shadow suddenly vanished.

Meanwhile, back at Station Square hospital, Elva was helping Amber. The two echidnas were in the room alone.

"Amber, dear, I know how you feel." Elva said, "My only son will not age, but I will. He will watch me grow old, but I don't care. I love Shadow and my son."

"Thank you, Elva." Amber said, clearing her tears.

Suddenly, Shadow and Matrix appeared in the room.

"Thanks, Max." Shadow said.

Matrix walked over to Amber. "I'm sorry," he said.

She put her finger up to his mouth. "Ssshhh, I love you, and that's all." Amber said, smiling at him.

He smiled back. "You're amazing." Matrix said, and he kissed her.

Shadow and Elva looked at each and smiled, then left the room.
