It's time to head to planet Clancer. Why? Why not!

Chapter 2: A New Friend

The flight was long, but exciting, due to the zombie menace. They would occasionally enter the bridge through unknown means, only to be destroyed by the Mobian heroes.

Knuckles: There has got to be a way to get rid of all those things!

Amy: Yeah, this is getting gross!

Knuckles: So why don't you figure something out?

Tails: What are you looking at me for?

Knuckles: You're the captain. It's your job to solve problems.

Tails: Give me a minute, I'm thinking!

Knuckles: <sarcastically> Hurry up, captain!

Tails: I plan to.

Amy: Would you two stop fighting?

Tails: Yeah, Knuckles! Knock it off!

Knuckles: I'm gonna knock you off that chair if you don't can it!

Tails: I'm the captain, and I say that if you don't stop, I'll lock you up!

Knuckles: Go ahead and try!

Amy: I've had it with you two! Stop it, or I'll lock you both up!

They all jumped at each other, and started fighting. They rolled across the bridge, exchanging hits. They eventually came to a stop when another zombie attacked them. Exhausted, Knuckles fired at it while still on the ground. It fell over, headless.

Amy: This has got to stop!

Tails: If Knuckles will leave me alone long enough, maybe I can stop these things.

Knuckles: Maybe we should feed you to `em instead…

Amy: Don't start it, Knuckles. Tails, you fix the zombie problem. Knuckles, go sit down.

Tails: Works for me.

Knuckles: I don't take orders from you! You're not the captain!

Amy: As long as you two are fighting like that, I might as well be.

Tails: No, I'm the captain.

Amy: Get to work, Tails. We need to rid the Star Princess of those things.

Tails & Knuckles: The what?!

Amy: The Star Princess! It's the name of my ship!

Tails: First of all, it's not your ship.

Knuckles: No matter whose ship it is, we are NOT calling it the Star Princess.

Amy: You got a better idea?

Knuckles: Yeah-the Iron Fist.

Tails: No, my ship is called the Grand Tsunami.

Knuckles: Not another one of your storm names! You name everything after a storm!

Tails: I do not!

Amy: Stop fighting on my ship!

Knuckles: It's not your ship!!

Tails: And you're not in charge!

Amy: Well, then who is?

All: I AM!!!

Tails: Can we decide this later? I need to get to work.

Knuckles: Fine, we'll do it later.

Amy: Please hurry, Tails.

Tails walked over to a console in the back of the room, and began to type on the keys. Knuckles and Amy both made a mad dash for the captain's chair, and arrived at the same time. Knuckles shoved Amy out, only to be smacked by her hammer.

Tails: Stop it, guys! I need to concentrate!

They both stepped away from the chair, and stared each other down. Their fierce glares were soon interrupted by Tails.

Tails: I've got it!

Knuckles: Good, what is it?

Tails: I'm gonna flood the ship with chemicals that'll melt the zombies into nothing!

Amy: Won't we be melted too?

Tails: Not if we use our force fields.

Knuckles: Do it.

Tails: Turn on your force field.

They did, and Tails pressed a button. A strange green gas filled the room, and the zombie's body was quickly dissolved into the air. Several minutes later, Tails pressed another button, and the gas was sucked away and replaced with safe air. They switched off their force fields.

Amy: Great work, Tails.

Knuckles: Yeah, it was okay…I guess…

Tails: You see? I deserve to be captain!

Knuckles: I knew you'd start that again!

They were about to fight when an alarm went off. Tails faced the console behind him and looked at it. After a moment, he pressed a button, and the alarm stopped.

Amy: What was that?

Tails: We're here.

Knuckles: Where's here?

Tails: The place the ship was before it came to Mobius. It says planet Clancer. Wait a minute…That means that Mobians have been to other planets!

Knuckles: This is all well and good, but what are we supposed to do here?

Tails: Well, uh…

Knuckles: Looks like the captain doesn't know what to do.

Tails: Do you?

Knuckles: No, but then again, I'm not the captain, am I?

Tails glared at the echidna, who returned it with a laugh.

Amy: Why don't we go down to the planet?

Knuckles: We don't know what's down there.

Tails: There's only one way to find out. Let's go, guys!

They made their way back to the Neo-Arwings, and opened the doors.

Tails: Okay, guys! Get ready!

Knuckles: I've got everything set up. Let's go!

Amy: Be ready for a fight!

They flew out of the hangar, and headed for the planet. After a minute or so, they encountered more ships like the ones that had blockaded Mobius. This time, they were being fought by other, odd-looking ships. Lasers streaked by as the three Neo-Arwings danced around the opposition, heading for the planet.

Tails: Get a look at those other ships!

Knuckles: Them things are freaky lookin'!

Amy: At least they're on our side…I think…

Tails maneuvered past one of the weird ships, and fired at an alien one, destroying it. Knuckles found two alien ones, and blew them up as well. Amy saw a group of five clustered together, and torpedoed the middle one, destroying all of them.

Amy: Did you see that?

Tails: Nice move, but let's stay focused!

Knuckles: We're almost there; we don't wanna mess up now!

They entered the atmosphere, and the ships withstood the heat. After that bumpy ride, the smooth skies were welcome. There was what seemed to be a war going on down below, but they managed to land on top of a large building. They hopped out of their ships.

Tails: Whew! That was some ride!

Knuckles: No kidding!

Amy: Look over there!

She pointed to a native of the planet, who was collapsed against a wall. They ran over to him.

Tails: Hey, are you okay?

Native: I'm…dying…

Amy: Oh no! How can we help?

Native: It's too late for me…but please give this to Marina…

He handed them a CD.

Knuckles: Who's Marina?

Native: You'll find her at the capitol…<cough!>…Please hurry…

He went limp, and his body slumped over, dead. Tails held the CD, looking at it.

Tails: I wonder what this is for…

Knuckles: Maybe this Marina person can tell us.

Amy: But where's the capitol?

Tails: Let's search from the air. Back to the ships!

Knuckles: We better do it quick, `cause we've got trouble!

He pointed to several alien ships that were flying toward them. The heroes rushed to the Neo-Arwings, and took off.

Knuckles: Let's take these guys down!

They flew around the enemy craft, exchanging fire with them. Amy scored a hit on the thruster of one of them, sending it spiraling out of control. It crashed into another enemy, destroying them both. Tails took out two of them with a strafing run, and Knuckles pummeled the last one with lasers, destroying it.

Tails: Great work, guys! Let's find that capitol!

They flew off together, deeper into the city. They soon found a huge, well-guarded building.

Knuckles: This must be the place!

Amy: Let's give it a shot!

They landed just in front of the building, and got out of their ships. One of the guards approached them.

Guard: Are you the assistance we requisitioned?

Tails: Uh…Yeah, that's us.

Amy: Tails! What are you doing?

Tails elbowed her.

Amy: I mean uh…that's right. It's us.

Guard: Good, we've been waiting for you. Marina is in the main office in the capitol. Follow me.

He led them into the building, and up several flights of stairs. Eventually, they reached a large room with several people in it. They all turned to face the newcomers. The guard led them closer.

Guard: This is the help we requested. I have to admit, they looked stronger in the description, though…

Knuckles: Hey, are you callin' me weak?!

Tails: <speaking through clenched teeth> Calm down, Knuckles…

One of the people walked up to them. She appeared to be a robotic overlander with green hair. She was about the same height as the average Mobian.

Guard: This is Marina Liteyears. She's the one you were sent to protect.

Marina: You know I don't need protection. I've saved your planet before, and I'll do it again. Still, some help would be nice.

Tails: <thinking> What have I gotten us into?

Marina: We'll go out and fight as soon as that messenger arrives.

Tails: Messenger? Was he supposed to deliver this?

Tails held the CD out to her. Marina took it, and examined it.

Marina: How did you get this?

Tails: We found your messenger. He was dying, and said to give that to you.

Marina: Well, at least we got the data…

Amy: What's on that thing, anyway?

Before she could answer, there was an explosion from far below. Everyone ran to a window and looked down. There was a blazing fire at the ground level, and it was rising fast.

Marina: Oh no, they bombed the capitol! We have to get out of here!

Guard: But how?

Marina: Head for the roof!

They all ran out the door, and raced up the stairs. Down below, they saw the flames engulf the room they'd been in only minutes before. This only made them go faster. After a seemingly endless climb, they reached the roof. Everyone crowded on the edge.

Guard: What do we do now?

Ship flew overhead. Several ladders extended from it, and the natives of the planet climbed up. Just as Marina was about to grab a ladder, there was a rumble from above. They all looked up, and saw alien fighters shooting down the rescue ship. It was also now in flames, and arced downward toward the ground.

Marina: No!!

Knuckles: I'll see you guys later!

He ran off the edge of the building, and glided to safety down below.

Tails: Knuckles!!

Marina: He's got the right idea! We'll have to jump! I can't carry both of you!

Smoke started to creep up from inside.

Tails: Don't worry, I can fly!

Marina: If you say so!

She leapt off the edge, and used some sort of hidden rocket mechanism to land safely. Tails was about to follow when he remembered Amy.

Tails: Amy! Hurry, I'll carry you down!

She ran up to him as he started to fly a few feet off the ground.

Tails: Take my hand!

She did, and he lifted her up.

Amy: Tails!

Tails: Yeah?

Amy: If we die…I'll kill you!

Tails: Deal!

He flew over the edge, and they landed next to the others.

Knuckles: Good, you made it.

Tails: Yeah, no thanks to you!

Knuckles: Well Ssooorrryyy!!!

Marina: I can't believe they got the capitol!

A guard walked up to them, as he overheard their conversation.

Guard: They must've planted the bomb before we took up our position here.

Marina: Well, at least our hired help is still here.

Guard: Yeah, about that…

Marina: What is it?

Guard: Well, it turns out that the ship that rescued the others was also carrying the help. And it got shot down.

Marina: But then…Who are these three?

Tails, Amy, & Knuckles: <sweatdrop> Uh…We can explain…

Marina: It had better be good!

Tails: We needed to lie in order to get to you.

Marina: Ooh, I'm gonna-

Knuckles: Hey, we got you that CD, didn't we?

Marina: Yeah, but still…

Amy: We're your only chance!

Tails: Amy, what are you doing?

Amy: I'm volunteering us!

Knuckles: Well…un-volunteer us!

Marina: We do need some help…

Tails: Maybe they can tell us where Sonic is.

Amy: That's why I volunteered us.

Knuckles: …<looks around at everyone>…<sigh> All right, I'm in.

Marina: Good. We need to find a safe place to operate from.

Tails: Well, we have a ship…It's in a high orbit, above the blockade.

Marina: Perfect!

Knuckles: But we only have three fighters…There's no way we can get you to it.

Marina: Leave getting to it to me. Guard, bring my ship around, please.

Guard: Yes, ma'am.

He ran off to another guard, and told him something. The other guard took out a device, and pressed a few buttons on it. Several seconds later, what appeared to be a flying house arrived, and hovered in front of them.

Marina: Get to your fighters. I'll follow you.

She said this as she climbed into the house, and closed the door. The Mobians got into their ships, and took off. Together, the four vehicles lifted off toward space.

Tails: All right, guys! Let's protect that ship!

Marina: Thanks for the help. My ship doesn't have much in the way of weapons, but it can take some punishment. Still, I can't get through that blockade without you.

Knuckles: We'll do what we can.

They encountered their opposition as they left the stratosphere. Marina stayed on a steady course, occasionally hitting an opponent. The others did most of the fighting.

Knuckles: Take this!

He fired a torpedo at one of the larger ships, destroying it.

They were nearing the edge of the blockade when another general came over their radios.

General: This is General Brigadeer! I order you to surrender!

Tails: Never!

A huge battleship approached from below. It had turrets all along its sides, which fired at them. Marina shifted power to her shields as the others surrounded the enemy vessel, trying to draw its fire.

Tails: There's a lot crossfire comin' from this guy!

General: That's right. You'll soon be overwhelmed!

Knuckles: I'm strafing him, and it's not working!

General: My armor's too thick for your puny blasters!

Amy: I need a target here, Tails!

Tails: I don't know anything more about this guy than the rest of you!

General: Prepare to die!

A flurry of missiles launched from the sides of the ship. They followed the Neo-Arwings around, gaining speed.

Tails: Lead them into the ship!

Knuckles: Right!

Amy: I'll try!

They flew around the ship, coming very close to it. They were soon able to crash all of the missiles into the surface of the ship. Their attack was ineffective, however.

Tails: What do we do?

General: You die!

Knuckles: Where's the weak point?

Marina: Go for the thrusters!

Tails: Right!

They all launched attacks on the massive propulsion systems at the back of the ship. One of the huge thrusters exploded after being hit with tons of firepower.

General: It doesn't matter if you destroy all of them! I don't need speed to deal with you!

Marina: Maybe not, but you've got a weak spot in your armor!

General: Impossible!!

Tails: Fire torpedoes into the remains of the thruster we just blew up!

They did, after several hits, the entire ship shook.

General: No!! I can't believe this!

Knuckles: Believe it, buddy!

Marina: Let's finish him!

Tails: Right!

Amy: Okay!

They all fired torpedoes into the large hole in the armor. There was a loud explosion, and the ship was nearly blown apart. Waves of electricity pulsed across the length of the vessel as small explosions erupted from various places on it.

General: How is this possible?! My plan was perfect!!!!

<KABOOM!!!!>

There was an incredible explosion as the ship disintegrated into chunks of twisted, burning metal that scattered across space. Avoiding the shockwave, The heroes regained formation.

Marina: That was some fight!

Amy: Is everybody all right?

Tails: Yeah, I'm okay.

Knuckles: I'm just fine. Let's get back to the ship.

Tails: Hey, Marina, how'd you know where to attack that ship?

Marina: Data from one of our spies.

Amy: It's a good thing you're with us, otherwise we'd be sunk!

Tails: There's the ship!

They flew into their as-of-yet-unnamed ship, and landed. Tails closed the doors, and they made their way to the bridge.

Marina: This is a pretty nice ship you've got here. What's it called?

Tails: Well, we haven't really figured that one out just yet.

Marina: So the captain hasn't decided yet?

Knuckles: There's a problem with the captain.

Marina: What's that?

Knuckles: These guys won't accept that it's me!

Tails: Don't start it, Knuckles.

Marina: You haven't even decided on a captain yet? How'd you get this far?

Tails: A whole lot of luck.

Amy: Our leader was taken by those aliens, and we're trying to get him back.

Marina: So they got your leader too, huh?

Knuckles: What do you mean?

Marina: They took Professor Theo, the guy that built me. I'm not sure why they wanted him, though. I think they were after me, too.

Tails: So now we've got two people to save.

Knuckles: Where do we go next?

Marina: Professor Theo told me to seek help from planet Bomber if things got bad. And I'd say this is pretty bad.

Tails: Do you know where that is?

Marina walked over to a control panel, and typed in the coordinates.

Tails: I'll take that as a yes.

Marina: Sorry, I didn't mean to offend anyone.

Knuckles: Let's go. The sooner we get them back, the better!

Tails: Engage.

The ship warped off toward the mysterious planet Bomber, and to new surprises.

Nice, long chapter, I think. Before anyone says anything, I know that Marina and Theo don't actually live on planet Clancer; they were just visiting. But like I said before, some stuff won't be exactly accurate. Please review this story, and tell me what you think.
