Tails fiddled with his bowtie, straightening it to perfection. He stared into the mirror nervously, hoping that he looked good. Although this event was all for Amy, after the party he hoped to give Cream the contraption he'd worked so hard on. it was a beautiful egg-shaped creation, adorned in glass of all different colors. When a button on its top was pressed, the egg would open up slowly and the middle would rise up a couple inches. The invention would then depict a little fox and rabbit, dressed as royalty, dancing around gracefully. After the end of the sequence the fox would pull the rabbit close and kiss her. Written on the platform they danced on were the words, “I Love You Cream.”

 

The egg was in the Tornado 2, which Tails had landed on Angel island. He decided to get ready with Knuckles, then take him to the party. Knux was in the other room, messing with his own bowtie. It was uncomfortable for him because he'd never worn one before. It was embarrassing for him as well; he knew Rouge would tease him.

 

He grunted under his breath, giving up on making it look good. “Stupid thing… I guess it doesn't really matter…” He exited the room with his arms crossed, entering the one that Tails had finished getting ready in. Knuckles leaned against the door frame, staring at Tails with irritation. “Did you really have to make me wear this thing? And, promise Rouge that I Wou—” Knuckles stopped himself. His relationship with Rouge was secret… so why would Tails promise Rouge?

 

Tails turned to face Knuckles, then rested his hands on the back of his head. He understood why Knuckles had hesitated. “You and Rouge weren't exactly discreet with your relationship, Knux. Its nothing to be embarrassed about. I think its kind of sweet~~,” Tails teased, Causing Knuckles to both blush and glare.

 

“Shut up Tails; you and Cream were pretty friendly yourselves. You should talk.” The crimson echidna headed for the front door, uninterested in what his Fox friend was feeling at the time. Tails was blushing a hard, flaming red, hesitating to put words together.

 

“S-so what…” He mumbled under his breath, following after Knuckles. The two then hopped into the Tornado 2, both embarrassed and trying to keep their minds on Amy's big event.

 

~~~~~Meanwhile, At the Mansion~~~~~

 

The place was dazzling!!! Tails' perfected lighting, the decorations that Rouge and Knuckles had picked out, the Food Amy had ordered—everything was picked to perfection. Soft music played in the background; fun, young, romantic songs. Vector and the rest of the Chaotix were proud that they'd found this place. It was perfect for Amy's big day.

 

There was a huge dance floor with delicately arranged tables lining the outside of it, and in the center of the room was a giant marble staircase, leading up to two big doors. A little after Sonic would arrive, Amy would walk from inside the big doors and down the staircase, then confess herself to him. It was only a matter of time till the breathless moment would occur.

 

“I'm so proud of you Amy! I can't wait till he sees you! He'll love you as much as we do,” a giddy Cream said, excited that Amy's big moment was very imminent. Amy giggled, then twirled her sparkling dress. “You think so? That's great then~! But I wonder when Tails and the others will get here… I hope that Sonic agreed to show up…”

 

as excited as Amy was, she was still worried that Sonic would refuse her. She had confidence that he loved her, but every woman always has her doubts…

Amy shook her head, aiming to forget the doubtful thoughts. A few moments later, Tails and Knuckles entered the building.

 

“Tails!!” Cream ran over to Tails, blushing slightly when she remembered her discussion with the girls about him. When Tails noticed the rosy color adorning her cheeks, he blushed as well. ~Why is she blushing at me…~ He watched as Cream twirled gracefully, showing off her adorable dress.

 

“What do you think, Tails? I picked out this dress a few days ago!!” She smiled gently, staring straight into his azure eyes. “U-um, you look really pretty in that, Cream; really, really pretty…” Tails blushed harder, embarrassed a little. He really loved her appearance, though; she looked perfect to the T. Cream giggled sweetly, then grabbed Tails' arm and dragged him to the dance floor.

 

Knuckles smiled as he watched the young couple walk off. “How cute…” he chuckled under his breath, but then was interrupted by a sweet, sultry and feminine voice. “Wow; you look pretty sharp, Knuckie. You should dress up for me more often.” Knuckles focused his lavender eyes on the elegant, perfect bat. Rouge smiled slyly, happy at the thought of her body taking his breath away. “Damn… well I could say the same thing for you too…” surprisingly enough, Knuckles felt no embarrassment. At this moment he was wrapped up in how beautiful and perfect Rouge looked.

 

Rouge linked her arm in Knuckles, ushering him to the Dance floor. “Come on; lets not let those kids show us up.” Rouge's tone was playful and beautiful, something that Knuckles loved her for. ~Tonight is gonna be a good night…~

 

Amy smiled a little as she watched everyone having fun. Tails, Cream, Rouge, and Knuckles dancing; Charmy sampling the food table while Vector worked the DJ table and Espio hung around the neatly arranged tables, sipping a drink solemnly.

 

“Everyone is having so much fun… when will it be my turn?” She sat down at a nearby table, feeling a bit tense. Sonic still hadn't arrived… when would he?

 

No… Sonic always made it even at the last second. He would be here.

 

~~~~Meanwhile, Outside not far from the Mansion~~~~

 

Sonic kicked a small stone on the side of a path, still feeling low. He'd been contemplating over whether or not to show up for his surprise. The young hedgehog sighed a long, lazy breath of air. “The only surprise that could make me feel better is… damn….” He stared up at the moon, listening to the calming sound of the crickets lurking in the deep green grass. Amy, Amy, Amy… it was the only thing he could think of no matter what. He'd been running for miles and miles the past few days, trying to clear his head. All he did was make things worse; once he became tired he would pick a spot to lay cold and alone, his wasted energy used on nothing at all. He'd spent the past couple days alone, though, and although it wasn't normal for him to feel this way he craved to be around people.

 

“I might as well see what this surprise is… I guess it couldn't hurt… too much.” Sonic kept walking for a while, nearing a house with bright lights and beautiful curtains. It was a great big house, the biggest on Violet St.; it had to be the one.

 

----On the side of the mansion ----

 

Shadow leaned against the building, wondering whether or not he really cared to attend the `lame' event. He'd come to the conclusion that he wouldn't. “I have no need to go to something like this; I may as well leave.” The onyx-furred hedgehog began to walk from the building, rustling gently resting leaves, when a hand placed itself onto his shoulder. Shadow quickly turned to face the stranger, whom had sluggishly withdrawn his hand. Shadow narrowed his eyes.

 

“Who the hell are you? What do you want??” it irritated him to know that someone had thrown him off guard, and had been hiding in the shadows. The stranger stepped out from the shadows, revealing himself to be Flame the Hedgehog. He snickered a bit. “The names Flame… it's a pleasure.” He chuckled, now louder, his plan moments away from taking it's final step. “Amy Rose… she's inside correct? Maybe I'll go in for a last little… attempt.” Shadow raised a brow. “What the fuck are you talking about? I don't have time for this-” “Oh, but I do. I have all the time this night provides…” Flame placed his hands behind his head, leaning against the stone building. Shadow narrowed his eyes further.

 

“And that concerns me because? I have no need to listen to a waste of air like you-”

 

“She's someone who'd made a fool out of me the other day… and now I plan to make a fool out of her. And her little “love” for that stupid hedgehog.”

 

“Oh really? And you plan to do this how? Peh, that hedgehog isn't that easily fooled, as much as I'd hate to compliment.”

 

“Ha ha, that's interesting. Because I've already got him in the palm of my hands.”

 

 

Sonic was now close to the house. He stood off to the side of the lawn, preparing himself to enter. He was nervous; would Amy be inside? And if she were, what would she say? Would she be with that strange Fiery red hedgehog?

 

~No… Amy wouldn't be with someone like that… I'm just letting that get to me…~ Sonic forced his confidence to grow. He'd never be happy if he kept dwelling on this. He knew Amy better than that anyways; she wouldn't just go for anyone. He still had a chance; he still had time. It was time to get what belongs to him.

 

The blue hedgehog smirked his trademark smile, his confidence now high enough. He begun to walk closer to the mansion, but stopped when he heard two voices talking on the side of the house. 2 very familiar voices. He recognized one of them as Shadow. What was he doing over there? He listened closely to the second…

 

“that's… Flame!!! That damn liar… what the hell is he doing with Shadow?” Sonic stood silent, listening closely to the conversation.

 

 

Shadow sighed. He didn't know why he was still wasting his time there, talking to such an idiot. He had no concern about whatever plan Flame had in mind, and he doubted it would work anyway. “So this plan of yours; what makes you think that you can think of something so great?”

 

Flame rubbed his nose with a finger, sonic style. “Its all just a little bit of… deception. Once Sonic arrives it'll be all over.”

 

Shadow was now more irritated. “That isn't what I asked you. What the fuck is it that you think is so great? And what makes you think that it'll all work?”

 

Flame was about to speak more vague, annoying sentences, when he noticed a small rustle on the lawn. From behind a bush he saw poking out a blue ear and trademark red shoes; Sonic had been spying.

 

~Damn… I can't hear what the hell they're saying; if only they'd talk a little louder…~ Sonic could only catch a few words here and there. He could put some of it together but not all of it. He got the basic idea that Shadow and Flame were talking about some sort of plan… Shadow seemed annoyed…

 

 

Flame smiled a wide, devilish grin. Things were going much more perfectly then he thought they would. Now, he wouldn't have to be directly involved in the whole plan. Sonic would carry it out all on his own. Originally Flame had planned that Sonic would walk into the mansion and see Flame with Amy, and before she had time to explain that Flame had just come close to her Sonic would be angry and Gone. Now, now things would be even better. Sonic wouldn't even show up, after hearing what Flame planned to say..

 

“Why yes, I do think he'll be disappointed. What an idiot, huh? Showing up only to learn that Amy Rose is now officially rejecting him. And that she plans to spend the night with me.” Flame spoke loud enough, making sure that Sonic would hear.

 

Shadow looked at him bewildered. “What the hell are you—”

 

“You agree huh? Heh heh, he really is a fool! I must thank you for sampling that girl for me first; I wouldn't of wanted her if you hadn't let me know how sweet she Tasted… everywhere. We made her change her mind about him so quickly… and now, she plans to humiliate him infront of everyone for never getting to her first? Classic!”

 

Shadow couldn't understand what he was doing. ~This guy has to be crazy… ugh, he's worse than I thought…~ “Look, I'm—”

 

“Thanks! I'm glad you're proud of me. I guess I better go in and get my girl—that wimp probably won't show up. If not then me and her are gonna go out for some fun.”

 

 

Sonic burned with anger inside. His throat felt dry, his hands sweaty, and he shook all over. “N-no… no way…” he muttered the few words under his breath, convinced now that Flame's story was true. If Shadow of all people were involved, then it had to be. He would never be involved in a prank like that. And everyone else… if Shadow was involved, what about them?

 

Sonic's heart sank hard into his stomach and his chest felt tight. He clenched his fists tightly, his anger growing from a small flicker to an inferno. Flame's laughter echoed in the background, making him feel worse and worse. ~That… that's it…~

 

Contrary to what Flame had expected, Sonic walked quickly towards the door. Without hesitation, he rang the door bell, his head flooded with a million thoughts.

 

Shadow had had enough of the red stranger. “Whatever. I'm done listening to you.” With that the Black hedgehog walked casually off, having no reason to continue hearing the lunatic rant on.

 

 

~~~Inside~~~

 

“Did you guys just hear that? The door bell rang!!!” Cream and Cheese jumped with excitement; it could only be Sonic. Amy's bored and tired face lit up with joy. “Really; he's here?! Oh no I better go then!!” The pink hedgie ran delicately up the stairs and into the room the big doors led to. Rouge and Knuckles smiled; it was now time for the party to really get started.

 

Vector went through a small hallway leading from the ballroom to the front door. He opened the door hastefully, revealing the anticipated hedgehog. “Hey! Sonic! You finally made-” Sonic walked right past Vector, making no eye contact and saying nothing. “Huh?” Vector watched Sonic walk down the hallway, a cold aura following him. “What could that be about?”

 

Sonic entered the ballroom with a stone cold face. Everyone smiled brightly, not noticing his mood right away. Knuckles stood before Sonic, stopping him from walking further. “Yo, Sonic; nice of you to make it. You sure are in for a surprise.” The echidna waited for a response, but got nothing. “Sonic?...” everyone else watched worryingly; Sonic didn't seem to be himself. He seemed angry, sad, and ready to burst; they'd only seen him like this once before, in a tight situation with one of Eggman's greatest robots.

 

“Maybe he'll be happier after getting his surprise?” Cream whispered to Tails, who agreed with her, hope-filled. Rouge nodded, a worried look adorning her face. Suddenly, the lights dimmed and two spotlights focused on both Sonic and The big doorway. Everyone backed away, forming a circle around the eerily behaving hedgehog.

 

“Attention everyone! The time has come to give Sonic what he's always had comin'! To you we now present, the surprise of a lifetime!!” Charmy announced the big moment's introduction, energy and anticipation filling everyone. The big doors were opening slowly, Revealing Amy standing in the shadows. A drum roll was playing in the background, speeding up every step that Amy took. One last whack of the drum emitted from the speakers, marking Amy's arrival. She stood in the center of the spotlight, smiling nervously. He was right there before him… only a moments breath away. All she had to do was walk down the stairway to him, and things would finally be okay.

 

~I can't believe it… lets do this, Sonic…~ Sweet sounds of an elegant orchestra danced in the background, matching every graceful step Amy took. Slowly, one by one, she made her way down the steps. When she made it to the bottom she sped up, smiling more, her heart skipping a beat.

 

~Now its time…~

 

~I guess this is the time…~

 

Amy now stood approximately 2 feet from her would-be lover. He looked strange… tired and as if he were holding in strong emotions… Amy decided that she would go ahead and begin talking. Perhaps nothing was wrong with him?

 

She opened her soft lips, painted a flirty light pink, and began to speak. “Sonic… there's something I wanted to tell you for a long time… I didn't think you would believe what I have to say seriously, so I brought everyone here to be with us. They've known about it for a long time… and its time to tell you the one hundred percent truth.” As nervous as she was, she still kept smiling. The more the words came out the more natural it felt… all she had to do was tell him…

 

“I'm in love, Sonic. And not with just anyone, I'm in love with—”

 

“I know Ames, I know. You don't have to tell me. I already know you've thrown your god damn self to someone else. I admit I've avoided you in the past… but when it came time I was always there to save you. was that really too little? To make you want to pull something like this? Where do you get off?”

 

everyone stared in shock. What the hell was going on?? Tails stepped forward, attempting to speak to his best friend. “Sonic, what are you saying?? Why are you acting like this?”

 

the dismal hedgehog didn't bother looking over to the young fox. “Shut up Tails. You're the one who lured me over here.” Tails' expression saddened. “W-what?...” he didn't bother speaking more. He was to bewildered, and everyone else were still utterly shocked.

 

Amy's heart sank. This wasn't at all what she expected to happen… why was he acting like this? “Sonic… please just listen first-”

 

“To what Ames? To you carry out the rest of your plan? Yeah right. Look, I'm done with caring about you. Looking after you, saving you from Eggman; everything. I don't care anymore. I don't want you after you've become so… dirty.” Sonic glared a cold stare straight into Amy's eyes. She couldn't take it anymore. Her eyes filled with tears, which soon streamed down her cheeks. “But Sonic… I love you…”

 

he held his cold expression. “…I can't say the same.”

 

 

As quick as the moment came, Amy was out the front door. She had ran as fast as she could, throwing off her shoes and ripping off her tiara. This moment had felt like the end off the world.

 

~he doesn't love me… he doesn't love me…~ she continued to run and run and run, and when she finally became tired she collapsed under a tree in a deep set of woods. She was cold, alone and her heart ached painfully. ~I hate this… I want to die…~ she sobbed uncontrollably, loud enough to be heard a mile away. She was utterly and completely torn, and no one could heal that wound.

NEXT TIME: Ames is cold and alone in the woods, feeling like no one can save her. When she thinks things have gotten bad enough, they only get worse….
