A/N: here it is folks!! I apologize for the long wait =0. Please forgive me (AP classes are a bitch… =_=;)

~Am I… dead?...~ The petite, bruised, rose hedgehog rubbed her head slowly, keeping her eyes closed tightly. She was in excruciating pain, and could feel the warmth of blood seeping down her leg as she shifted slowly. The only sounds her delicate ears could make out were the sounds of raindrops, hitting the ground at an alarming rate, and the crashes of thunder.

Amy opened her eyes slowly, her vision blurry at first. She rubbed her eyes to clear them up. No, she was most definitely not dead; what she saw before herself was nowhere near heaven, and she knew that she wasn't fit to go to hell. And besides, she recognized the little bit of her surrounding that remained…. The remnants of Sonic's house. She quickly stood her aching body in the midst of wood and dust, alarmed at the absence of the full side of the house. She had to poke her head through a small hole in the pile of rubble to see the full extent of the damage; it was horrible. Luckily, Sonic seldom came here.

“What the hell happened…. This is horrible…” Tears welled up in Amy's eyes; what could of done this?? The last thing she remembered was standing infront of the window, looking to the sky; but then what? … she couldn't remember.

“oh! … please say…!!!”

The little hedgehog began digging through the rubble as fast as she could, hoping to uncover Cream and Vanilla, alive. She desperately continued to dig until she saw the sight of a little rabbit ear; it was Cream! Amy reached in between bits of wood and metal, grasping her young friend around her mid body, under her arms. She then pulled slowly (but with force), revealing a battered bruised body.

“Cream!! Cream Wake up!!!! Oh please…. Come on!!!!” Amy Shook the little body gently. No response. “Cream you have to wake up; please say you're okay!!!” Amy continued to shake her, still receiving no response. She had no choice but to gently set Cream to the side and dig for Vanilla. She turned back to the rest of the wreckage.

She started digging once again, just the way she had before, assuming that she would find Vanilla in no time if she'd found Cream relatively easily. Unfortunately, she was correct.

She didn't have to search long for Vanilla. Before she could even realize it, the pile of rubble collapsed beneath she and Cream. Dust flew into the air, causing Amy to cough several times. When the dust cleared, an arm, badly cut and ripped open just below the wrist, was resting lifelessly on a plank of wood.

“Vanilla!!!” without giving thought to Cream's condition, Amy scrambled over to the injured mother's location. She pulled her from the rubble the way she had Cream. She was hurt, BADLY. Blood was all over her body, staining her dress, hair, fur; just about everything. Blood had even soaked into the wood all around her, collecting what would've been an enormous puddle on the floor.

“Vanilla!! Vanilla!! Please wake up; can you hear me?! Vanilla!!!” Tears spilled from Amy's eyes as she desperately hoped for a response. Cream needed her mother… this couldn't of be the last time she'd ever walk the earth with a heart to always help.

……..

No response.

Amy collapsed on the battered mother's lap, bawling. She couldn't be gone… she couldn't…

There's just no way.

----Meanwhile, Angel Island----

Sonic stared hard at the distant location, wondering how he'd get there; if he should even go there. Was everyone alright? If not, that would have to be handled first. And besides, Knuckles was in bad shape and Sonic refused to leave him here. “Damn… what am I supposed to do…?” The blue blur thought aloud, not knowing where to go or who needed him the most. It was a heavy burden, the weight of the world.

“What would you do without me… here I am to help you all again?”

Sonic quickly turned his head, surprised at whom stood before himself. Shadow the hedgehog.

“Shadow; how did you get here!?” Sonic felt relieved that he wouldn't have to contemplate this situation all by himself, though his pride refused to admit it.

Shadow crossed his arms, shifting his weight to his left leg. “how else? I got here by doing what I do best.” He kept his eyes glued to the eerie sky, rain dampening his onyx fur.

Sonic walked closer to his long time rival. “Chaos control,” he assumed, “But you don't have any Chaos emerald on you… now do you…?” Shadow cocked an eyebrow. “I don't need chaos emeralds in order to use chaos control, now do I?” Sonic nodded his head, remembering the truth in Shadow's statement. (A/N: play Sonic Battle on GBA to see what shadows talking about… he uses chaos control without any emeralds…)

“So then, what now Shad? Damn… I don't know what the hell happened… and if everyone is okay or not…” An even more serious look adorned Sonic's face.

Shadow shifted his focus onto Sonic. “Well…” he started, “… you go ahead and handle what's across the ocean, faker, and I'll handle what's going on everywhere else.”

Sonic shot Shadow a confused look. “Why… do you want me to handle over there?”
He smirked. “Is it because you think I'm a better fighter? I'm pretty sure there's some action over there.”

Shadow rolled his eyes then narrowed them. “Hardly. I could destroy you 100 times over and still have enough energy for a thousand more rounds. The reason I'm telling you to go over there is, I can use Chaos control MUCH better than you, much more than you, AND, who knows how many places I'll have to go to check up on your… friends…” Sonic unwillingly accepted that his rival was correct.

“Alright then; fine… go ahead and help them out… not that I couldn't do it myself. Heh.” (Anything to keep Sonic's ego up, of course). Shadow narrowed his eyes further. “Really, because last time I checked, it was ME who saved the pink hedgehog… not you.”

Shadow's comment stung hard in Sonic's gut. It was true… he hadn't been the one to save Amy… ~feh, he probably only did it to rub it in my face…~ Sonic pushed the conflict to the back of his mind, remembering that a lack of confidence was the last thing he needed at the moment. He forced a cocky smile. “Yeah… thanks for that. I appreciate it…”

Shadow uncrossed his arms, readying himself to leave. “Don't thank me. I didn't do it for you; I did it for her.” Those words didn't help Sonic either. They sounded almost… romantic. He ignored it. “Well whatever Shad; take care of things. And Take Knux with you.”

Shadow shifted Knuckles onto his shoulder from Sonic's, then yelled to no one in particular, “CHAOS CONTROL!!!!” a flash of light beamed before Sonic, and when it faded Shadow was gone along with Knuckles. Sonic sighed.

“Well… looks like its my turn to boogie…” Sonic prepared himself for what was to come next.

TO BE CONTINUED!!!!!!

NEXT: Shadow helps out the gang, Sonic heads for the main sight. But, how will he get there? We all know he can't swim… well, where there's a will there's a way! And what about shadow? Doesn't something seem off? Well if it doesn't, it will soon enough. What he knows, no one else does. And when they find out…… YOU WILL TOO!!! NEXT TIME!!! =D
