Chapter 4: Nuclear Iguana Attack
A huge, dark shape slowly began to rise from the water. Its details were hidden, since it was dark outside. All they could see was that it was fairly rounded at the top.
Knuckles: What…is…THAT?!
Scotty: I promise to tell you as soon as I find out myself!
Whatever it was began to rise, and started nearing land. It appeared to move in huge steps, lurching forward in bursts. With each step, more of it could be seen, and it was soon clear that it towered over many of the towers in the city.
Metal-2: I think we should run now.
They all nodded, nervously, and everyone ran away from it. Soon after, a giant, green, clawed foot stomped down on the beach where they had been standing. It was clear now that this huge thing was actually a giant creature; a monster of some sort. It let out a booming roar that could be heard for miles around. People screamed and ran away, and there were riots in the streets. The creature stepped into the city, cracking the pavement, and leaving a giant footprint with each step.
Scotty: Let's get back to the base…and…uh…
Knuckles: Hide?!
Metal-2: Works for me!
They hurried home, and told everyone what was going on. The creature roared again from outside, and Billy looked toward it, stunned slightly.
Billy: Oh no…
Sonic: What is it?
Billy: I'd know that roar anywhere…It's…
Knuckles: Who?
Billy: GODZILLA!!!
Sonic: That is bad!
Billy: But…How'd he escape from Monster Island? They have all kinds of security systems, not to mention the other monsters, and-
Knuckles: Wait a minute! How do you know so much about him?
Billy: I watch the movies…
All: O.o
Knuckles: <chuckles> You?! Watch movies?!
Billy: Well…Even a scientist must have his hobbies…
Knuckles: Now I've seen everything.
Sally: Uh…Hello?! Yeah, hi. Can we focus?! There is a giant lizard stomping around out there, and you people are making jokes!
Sonic: Relax, we just don't have a plan yet.
Tails: I think I may have something…
Metal-2: What is it?
Tails: You know that thing I've been working on?
All: Yeah?
Tails: Well, it might not be enough, but…it's better than nothing.
Sonic: Hurry up and get it out; we don't have much time!
Tails led them to the hangar, where they kept their aircraft. One of them was covered under a large, dark green tarp. Tails grabbed it and pulled it off. Underneath it was what looked like an unusual jet fighter craft.
Tails: I just finished it! It's called a Veritech.
Sonic: Looks like a jet to me.
Tails: That's the idea! I got the design from an awesome TV show that I watch when I get the chance. I'd tell you more, but we're kinda short on time. Wish me luck!
He hopped into the pilot's seat, and put a helmet on before closing the canopy. They watched as he gave them a `thumbs up' from behind the glass while the engines powered up. Soon after, the Veritech was barreling down the runway, and it took off. Tails turned and flew toward Godzilla.
Tails: Okay, let's get this over with…
He flied toward Godzilla, and fired at him. The lizard turned to face him, and fired several small shots of its deadly fire breath at Tails. The fox managed to dodge each one, and launched a barrage of missiles at Godzilla. The monster roared, and tried to swipe at the jet as it passed. Luckily, it missed. They continued to fight with each other.
Back at the base, the others decided on what they needed to do.
Sonic: Okay, so the plan is: we come up with a plan!
Knuckles: <sarcastically> Oh it's genius!
Scotty: Billy, you know that thing better than any of us. Any ideas?
Billy: Well, unless we can find another monster to stop him…no, no ideas.
Knuckles: No ideas? You?! Now I really have seen everything!
Sonya: So, what happens if we can't find another monster?
Billy: Trust me, you don't want to know.
Godzilla ran down the road, following Tails. The fox was trying to lead Godzilla back to the water, to avoid damage to the city. However, the monster's long tail swung back and forth into the sides of buildings with each step. Many cars were flattened, but they were almost to the water.
Tails: That's it, follow the shiny jet…
They soon reached the water, and Godzilla splashed down into it. Tails turned around, ready to fight again. He noticed something strange; something large and metallic on the monster's head. He didn't have time to wonder about it, though, since he had to dodge another fire breath attack. Tails fired another volley of missiles at Godzilla, but they were rather ineffective.
Tails: Argh! Hmm…Let's see if I can mess with its head…
He reached over to a large lever, and moved it forward. Within seconds, the jet shifted as different sections moved around. It transformed into a humanoid form, holding a large, round gun with both hands. The Veritech flew through the air, held up by jets in the feet and back.
Tails: Meet Mr. Battloid mode!
The fox grinned as he circled Godzilla, strafing while he fired at it. The lizard turned in circles, trying to follow him. It swiped at his Veritech several times, throwing off Tails's aim for a moment. A stray shot careened into Godzilla's eye, and the beast roared with pain. It fired a huge beam of its fire breath at Tails, but missed. Instead, it decimated parts of several buildings. Godzilla hurried into deeper water, needing to recover. Tails watched, victoriously flying high in the air.
Tails: Oh yeah! Go me! It's my birthday!
He celebrated for a moment before transforming back into his jet form. Tails flew back to the base, and landed safely. He hopped out of his Veritech after shutting everything off. Somehow, no one noticed his return, though. They were too busy talking.
Sonic: So, we finally got a plan! Great! Let's go!
Tails: Uh…Sonic…
Sonic: Yeah, Tails? …TAILS?! When did you get back?!
Tails: Just now.
Sonic: Oh…Well, in that case, you can help us send that lizard packing!
Tails: You're too late, Sonic. I already took care of it…for now, anyway.
Scotty: What do you mean, `for now'?
Tails: Well, I didn't really do much. I think he just went away long enough to heal.
Sonic: So our planning wasn't a total waste, then?
Tails: Probably not.
Knuckles: Well, if he's gone now, can we get some rest? It's late, and I'm tired.
They agreed, and decided to get what sleep they could. Metal-2 did not sleep, of course, so he walked around the base, looking out the windows, and scanning for any signs of Godzilla's roar. He didn't hear any roars, but he did pick up an unusual sound from outside. He silently approached the entrance to the base, and looked outside. He saw a quivering reddish object on the doorstep.
Metal-2: What is that?
The robot walked outside, and saw that the object was actually Amy Rose. She turned her head to face him as she shivered.
Amy: Metal?
Metal-2: Amy…What are you doing here?
Amy: That monster…it wrecked my apartment!
Metal-2: I see.
Amy: They closed the place off because it wasn't safe to go in. So now I'm stuck out here.
Metal-2: Come inside. You'll freeze if you stay out here.
Amy: …Thank you…
He helped her up, and led her inside. Amy sat down in a chair, and Metal-2 brought her some hot cocoa to warm her up. She accepted it happily while Metal-2 told her about the recent events.
Amy: So, you've got an emotion chip now?
Metal-2: That's right. It seems to be working.
Amy: I'm so happy for you!
Metal-2: Yes, I am happy for me, too.
Amy: So, how's it feel to have emotions for the first time?
Metal-2: It is very interesting. Sometimes I cannot quite figure out what I am feeling, or why.
Amy: Welcome to reality.
Metal-2: I suppose so.
Amy: So…What do you feel right now?
Metal-2: Hard to say…Calm, I guess. Possibly…relieved that Godzilla is gone for now.
Amy: Wow, I guess it is working.
Metal-2: Affirmative. The chip is functioning at optimum capacity.
Amy: <giggles> Oh, Metal, you haven't changed a bit.
Metal-2: But I…Oh, I see. A joke. <laughs awkwardly>
Amy: We've got to work on your laugh.
Metal-2: I suppose it could use some improvement.
Amy: I'll have to teach you tomorrow, though. <yawn> I'm too tired right now.
Metal-2: I understand.
Amy took another drink.
Amy: So, you just stand around all night?
Metal-2: Not always. Sometimes I walk around, or read, or even give shelter to freezing hedgehogs…
Amy: Heh, Yeah…Thanks again for that.
Metal-2: It was no problem. It will be interesting to explain your presence here tomorrow.
Amy: I just hope they let me stay.
Metal-2: When they hear about what happened, I'm sure they will.
Amy: If you say so.
Metal-2: I will ensure it.
Amy: Thanks…How can I ever repay you?
Metal-2: I do not need anything in return.
Amy: Did Sonic teach you that? Come on, there must be something.
Metal-2: Well…<thinks for a moment>…Let me help you.
Amy: <confused> Okay…but…that's kinda the opposite of what I had in mind.
Metal-2 found a blanket and a pillow, and brought them to Amy. She soon fell asleep in the chair, under the protective watch of Metal-2. The robot returned to his duties of guardian of the base, and for once, there was no trouble.
Does anyone know for sure if that thing Godzilla shoots is fire, or a laser, or an energy beam, or what, because I can't tell.
