"Life sucks then you die.. if you're lucky"
- Unknown

Eight years ago: In orbit around Mobius.

Free.

Free from the orders of a vengeful creator.

Free from a promise.

Free from obligations.

Free to make his own choices.

Free to die or take his own revenge or live as he saw fit.

“Maria, I did what you asked. I saved this planet.” There was but a hint of disapproval in that voice. “Now, I must make my own path and my own decisions. If I cannot destroy all life then perhaps there is another less extreme method that I can take to avenge you. But for now…”

Shadow’s super form lost Chaos energy quickly, the creamy-gold light poured off his frame simply because the Hedgehog did not attempt to hold onto his own lifeline of power. He began the long plummet through to the Earths atmosphere, gravity pulling him in. He didn’t care if he died or not, if he did he would have endless, silent, dead rest. If not, who knew. One thing was for sure though, this was the ultimate test. To survive this was something only a true immortal could do, all doubts would be gone, he could only be the Ultimate Life form. If he wasn’t he didn’t deserve life.

In the distance he could see Super Sonic staring at him in disbelief, a gold bracelet still in his hand. He was shouting but his voice got nowhere in the vacuum of space. Shadow allowed himself one last amusement, one last thing to disturb the blue Hedgehog he hated so much. He grinned evilly and gave a small polite wave as the very last of his Super form drained away and his fur turned to a normal black. Almost instantly he burst into a fiery ball of glowing matter as he entered Mobius’ atmosphere. Still grinning as he went down, getting farther and farther out of sight.

The pain was unbearable, the fire stripped away fur and patches of flesh in random places but Shadow embraced it, his final test would be passed. He would prove himself once and for all. Despite the immense agony he was experiencing he reached out in his mind for Chaos energy, and found the seven emeralds about to scatter themselves as they did every time someone collected them all and used their full power. He called one to him and as the seven rare gems streaked past him towards the Earth the red emerald flew into his hand. He clutched it close and fell towards the planet in his personal inferno, using the Chaos energy to improve his already incredible healing powers. Yet not teleporting anywhere else.

This was a test, no cheating.

The others had gathered in the observation room to watch the show and now remained there. It was the most breathtaking room on the ARK, one entire wall was made of glass save a tiny part at the top and bottom. The floor had gaps of glass with which to look down on planet Mobius.

Sonic walked into the room in shock. One of Shadow’s rings had drifted near him earlier and he had grabbed it on instinct. Now the bracelet was still in his hand.

“Sonic, where’s Shadow?” Rouge walked towards him, a single tear forming in her eye. Sonic handed her the bracelet. She held it close to herself, like it would escape. It was best she have it, she was the only one who actually knew him.

“Sonic what happened out there?” Amy asked quietly.

Three hours later: Several dozen miles from Westopilis

Underneath the broken moon It seemed the entire forest surrounded this one point. A large dark hill rising above the cold treetops, the glow of the city could just be seen on the horizon. Giving the impression of perpetual sunset. The stars overhead shining down. Sounds of fighting and shouting could be heard upon the clearing on the hill and if you looked close enough dark shapes and shadows could be seen running about there. Every so often they would all jump together simultaneously, gunshots or clashes of metal might be heard and then they would depart.

In the middle was one grey and black Rabbit dressed in a dark grey tunic and pants, legs bound by rope -sword in hand. Fending off the attacks. One opponent, a green-furred bear clothed almost completely in a dark blue cloak jumped towards him, the swords met with a metallic sound. The two struggled against each other for a while before the bear jumped back. As soon as he did another foe came forward, a pink Mongoose women- dressed like any party goer in the city- brought a large whip around to him. He hopped over it with difficulty before stopping and staring at the sky in the distance, disbelief etched on his face.

A sound like a huge firework was heard and the others turned with him. Now they were still the Rabbit sliced his legs free.

“What the fuck?” The Rabbit said to himself, he quickly did a head count to make sure that it wasn‘t one of the other guys making a practical joke. But no, all six of them were there. A huge orange streak was cutting through the serene night sky, passing the moon that had been blown apart less than a day ago. It crashed in the forest below them in a blood-curdling scream of what sounded like an injured animal. Crashing through trees and obliterating anything in the way it finally came to rest in a glowing fiery crater, still unnatural screams erupted from it.

“Shouldn’t someone go check that thing?” One of the former-attackers asked preparing to run.

“We ALL will Leo.” The Mongoose told the Lion.

“Yeah, don’t be afraid. Some king of the jungle you are.” A blue Fox girl said. “After you oh feared leader.”

“Follow me.” The grey Rabbit sheathed his sword and then led his gang into the forest, following the screams and the bright light that was even now fading.

I know Lu, I should be getting on with my Shails fiction but I really, really needed to start this. To all readers of ShadowXCream, this fiction will be updated slowly. I have another story to write up here and it has shown huge, huge interest (I have two reviewers now!) if more people review this Shream however….
