Burlow and his best friend, Maria were now both twenty-seven years old. They were married and
lived just beside a mountain range in a valley witch Maria didn't like one bit, it was too hot for
her, she was used to living on a mountain range where it could get to be below zero while
Burlow liked basking in the sun where it could get so hot, you could fry an egg on the sidewalk.

It was March thirty-first and the air was rather cool, to both Burlow's and Maria's liking. There
wasn't a living soul in the house accept for the two young hedgehogs who loved each other so
dearly. (Please keep in mind that the two of them are adults so don't even start.) The two of
them went upstairs to the bedroom, it was pitch black. Only their highlights could be seen, the
two of them quite comfortable. Maria crawled onto the bed, hoping to get some sleep. She
closed her eyes and began to daydream, Burlow did the same. Neither had a care in the world
and wanted to get some sleep, in the valley, March always had the mildest weather but tomorrow
would be April and the comfortable nights would be over.

The next morning, everything went just fine until Maria began to feel sick. She couldn't stop
throwing up and barely made it to the bathroom every time. Burlow became a little concerned
but Maria said that if this continued onto tomorrow, she would go see the doctor and it did
continue up to the next day. Burlow decided to go on a run like he always did while Maria went
to the doctor.

When Burlow returned, Maria was sitting on the couch. She looked worried.

"Maria, what's wrong?"he asked.

"Burlow, you know how I went to the doctor today?"Maria asked.

"Yeah, why?"

"Well, I found out that I'm-I'm..."Maria couldn't finish.

"What? Are you sick? Tell me, please."Burlow begged.

"I'm- I'm pregnant."Maria choked out.

"Maria, that's wonderful!"Burlow said as he hugged Maria.

"You might think so, but I don't."Maria began to cry.

"Maria, why are you crying?"Burlow asked.

"I can't tell you."Maria replied.



"Well, at least call Shadow and tell him. He should know."Burlow said.

"I think I will."Maria grabbed the phone and called Shadow.

"Hello?"Shadow said over the phone.

"Hi, dad. It's Maria."

"Maria, how are you?"

"Not so good. I went to the doctor today and found out that I'm-I'm..."Maria almost fainted.

"What's wrong, sweetie?"Shadow asked.

Maria told him all about what happened in the past few hours.

"Hey, Maria. Tell Shadow that he's welcome to come over."Burlow whispered.

"Dad, you're more than welcome to come over if you want."Maria offered.

"Sure, if you want me to."

"Yes, of course."

"Alright, when should I come?"

"Whenever you're ready."

"Okay, I'll be there in a few hours."

Burlow and Maria waited anxiously for Shadow to get there, he came at the time he'd given.
Burlow was playing a video game and Maria was asleep on the couch. When Burlow let Shadow
in, he went into the living room and saw Maria fast asleep. He sat down next to her and stroked
her spines, this woke Maria up but she was happy to see her father.

"Hi."Shadow said casually.

"Father, I'm so scared."Maria said as she hugged Shadow and began to cry on his shoulder.

"Don't be scared, you'll be okay, I promise."Shadow said as he stroked Maria's spines again.

"I know you won't let anything happen. I trust you."

Maria loosened her embrace, Shadow kissed her on the forehead.



Shadow was welcome to stay as long as he pleased witch Maria hoped he would stay until she
had the baby because she felt much more safe with Shadow around. Burlow hoped so as well but
not for the same reason as Maria, he wanted Shadow to stay for a while because he was friends
with Shadow and rarely gets to see him.

Shadow wasn't going to let anything happen to Maria, he wanted to stay for a while and keep an
eye on her.
