Chapter 24

Shadow lay on the ground, bleeding profusly from the mouth and from various parts of his body.

The dragon lay slain on the ground near him, no longer a threat to the world.

Yet, with the battle came a big price to pay for the fighters: Kyle and Monic were dead and Tails was near-death with Sonic nowhere to be found.

".......ugh.....grrr..ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!" Shadow was coming to, and felt a sudden wave of pain course through his entire body, his screams echoing through the dusty air.

Shadow managed to open his eyes and saw the scene for himself: Eagle-Eye city was destroyed, Kyle and Monic were dead and he saw no sign of Sonic anywhere.

"Sonic?! Sonic!! Sonic?!!!! SONIC!!!!!!!" Shadow yelled in the distance, trying his best to find Sonic, hoping he was still alive.

Shadow was limping across the battlefield, strewn with bodies and debris. Shadow had to carefully manuver his way through the pile of dead bodies and debris from buildings and even people themselves.

"This can't be happening..." Shadow tried to assure himself that it was all a dream, but then he finally found who he had been looking for. "SONIC!!!"

Shadow ran as fast as he could, his legs very weak and his vision getting blurry every second.

When Shadow finally got to Sonic, he saw that Sonic was bleeding from the right cheekbone and his left ear had been cut open, parts of his leg had bone showing through and he was barely breathing.

"Sonic...!!" Shadow gently picked Sonic and hoisted him over his shoulder, hoping that he would be able to find a hospital somewhere nearby.

Shadow saw Tails on the ground, his tails had blood all over them, his left arm was severly disfigured and the back of his head had blood flowing from it.

Shadow did his best to pick up Tails as well, being very careful not to drop Sonic while doing so. After two minutes of straining to pick Tails up, Shadow somehow managed to hoist Tails over his other shoulder and continued his trudge for a hospital.

Shadow was breathing very quickly and he was sweating like crazy, he knew that he would have to get to a hospital soon or he and the others would die before he even made it to a hospital.

Shadow slowly made his way away from the devastated city, totally unaware of where he was or where he was going.

"I'm gonna...I'm gonna get you guys home...don't...don't you.....worry..." Shadow said through breathes as he felt his legs starting to buckle under him.

Shadow, as much poain as he was in, kept on walking in search of a hospital, knowing that it may take him days or even weeks before someone even found them.

After about thirty minutes of walking, Shadow felt his pulse pick up, he felt dillerious and he felt the blood flow to his brain slowly creeping to a halt as he knew that he had to find a hospital soon or he, Tails and Sonic would die.

"Got...to...........keep going............." Shadow's vision started to get fuzzy as there was nothing but empty horizon ahead of him, no hospital was to be found anywhere.

Despite this, Shadow continued trudging along the ruined city, going through the mountains and the ruin of the cities.

After about three hours of walking, Shadow was hardly concious: he couldn't feel his legs at all and he was severly dehydrated.

Shadow, unable to take anymore, fell to the ground, Sonic and Tails falling off his shoulders and hitting the ground with a hideous thud.

"............................................................... ... .......................................................................& ;quo t;

Shadow was breathing very restricted as he felt his life slowly slipping between his fingertips and soon, he blacked out.

"Not.............this.................................way....... ... ..............." Shadow struggled to speak out as he lost conciousness.
