"Professor, it's amazing! Your experimental hedgehog's strength tripled over night, and we believe he's ready to be prepped for removal from his support tube." A young intern for the doctor spoke in excitement. This had been an amazing past few days incredible since the birth of experiment number 645-A codenamed "Project Shadow," and it could only get more exciting after it was awakened. The professor walked to the tube and ran his hand across it.

"My son... I do look forward to your awakening. Just wait... I promise you a full, peaceful life..." The professor sighed as he walked off, the team prepping the experiment for release.

******A Few Hours Later******

A few hours passed as the young hedgehog laid unconcious in front of the professor. He trembled softly in his restful sleep before his eyes opened, looking around at his surroundings.

"W-Where am I...?" He said nervously. The professor smiled at him and shook his head. He seemed so scared, like a child.

"You are aboard the Space Colony ARK... and I am your creator. My name is Professor Gerald, but please call me father." He walked over and placed a hand on the Hedgehog's shoulder, and he seemed comforted by the touch. Gerald smiled at his reaction and sat beside him. "Your name is Shadow the Hedgehog. You are the one true Ultimate Lifeform. You have been imbued with all my knowledge, and with the blood of my grandson, Shade."

Shadow looked at him like a curious child, "May I meet him?" Gerald nodded and stood with him, taking his hand and leading him to the cryosleep room and pointing to the tube on the far right.

"He's in there, and soon you will. He asked me to freeze him until I had completed his training partner... You. You both share a power beyond any other know to the universe. The power to use the Chaos Emeralds to bend time and space, releasing forces greater than any other creature could ever imagine. So much good could come of the two of you harnessing the power. The powers range from attacks, to teleportation, and even healing powers..." Shadow listened intently, fascinated by everything the professor said. The professor was about to speak again when a soft, beautiful voice cut in.

"Grandfather, is this Shadow?" The girl spoke softly and gently, her deep blue eyes looking upon Shadow as she smiled. Shadow blushed a bit when he saw her. She was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen, even the stars in the darkness of space outside the windows couldn't ever compare to her. She walked over and kneeled in front of him, touching his cheek. Shadow blushed darker, and the girl began to giggle. "Hehe, I'm Maria. Professor Gerald is my grandpa. I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot of each other, he wants me to tutor you while they prepare Shade for release. Would you come with me?" She took his hand and lead him off. Grumbling came from the shadows as another watched Maria walk off with Shadow. He walked out of the shadows and Gerald called to him.

"Ah, there you are Charles. I need you to prep Shade for release from his cryochamber. Can you do that for me?" The professor spoke softly, and the man nodded.

"Whatever you say father..." Charles walked solemnly into the lab, brooding as he began to ressucitate the young boy in the Cryo-tube. Back with Maria, Shadow was getting the rest of the tour of the colony. He smiled softly to her as he spoke gently.

"It's all amazing, but there's one thing more amazing than any of it here..." Shadow blushed as Maria smiled and sat beside him.

"What's that, Shadow the Hedgehog..." As she spoke, he nuzzled closer to her and kissed her cheek softly.

"You, Maria... You're more beautiful than the stars in space..." He blushed darker as she leaned in to kiss him back. She giggled again and held him close, never having seen anyone so sweet before. He smiled brightly, "One day, I'll marry you Maria..." She blushed darkly at the thought but kissed him again softly.

"Alright Shadow... I'd like that a lot..." She stood with him as the professor called the two of them to the Cryo Room. Maria stood with Shadow, leading him back to where she had been instructed to and there was now a young man standing in front of the Cryo tube. Professor Gerald called Shadow over to him and he pointed to the boy.

"This is Shade, my grandson. Shade, this is Shadow the Hedgehog..." The two boys looked at each other and smiled. They turned into best friends instantly and ran off together, Gerald turning to Maria, "Keep a good eye on those two, okay?" Maria nodded and walked off after them. Time passed and the three grew up together, growing stronger and closer every second they were together. With every day Shade and Shadow trained, their powers grew, and just like his power, Shadow's love for Maria grew as well.
