Summary: after returning of Drak, Max has a shock when he sees some old friends, Metal Foxes appear and a mad scientist is found…?

9 days after returning from the Drakon home world, the team arrived back at their home it was nice to be back in the sun.

"I'm going up stairs guys to get so sleep, I'll be down later" Max replied, he moved slowly up the steps, after walked into his apartment that was above the Neo cave 7 Nightclub, it was cold inside thanks to the air- conditioners, unlike outside, it was a tropical temperature in Nimbius city was 46'c.

Max sat on the edge of his bed, he had his hands around his face, sighing deeply he looked down at the floor. Then he looked up at a photograph on the side of the table that was next to his bed, it was of Max when he was 4 years old with him were Espio, Rene, Xavier and Laura, he sighed again more deeply and said to no one but himself "I'm sorry, I broke the family up" tears slowly formed in this eyes, he forced himself to lay back on his bed and closed his eyes and within minutes he fell a sleep.

Max woke up the next day with a headache, he slowly stood and walked into kitchen as he past he turned the T.V. on, it was 6:23am and the Dephan channel four news was on.

The reporter on the T.V. started to speak, "I'm Ruth Starwood, last nights news the twin crime fighter duo from New York city has saved a group of scientists out of a burning building, we now go live to New York city" the image on the T.V. changed to show the scientists standing in front of the on burnt building, with them was a red rabbit reporter who started to talk, "Thanks Ruth, I'm Chris Riley, here with me are all the scientists to tell us what happened", (standing next to the male reporter was a female green chameleon), the chameleon started to speak "yes Chris, thanks to the duo crime fighters, I and the other scientists got out fine".

Max was now in the kitchen getting something to eat and something strong for his headache, when he turned his head to the T.V. and remembered what happened 6 years ago.

Max and Sugar were walking down the main high street, when both of them saw blackish grey smoke rising up from behind some buildings.

"Come on, Sugar" Max said to Sugar, she looked at him as the two ran.

They ran around the corner of the street, the two stopped running as they saw the building that was owned by PIX Corporation, it was one of the most highly technologic laboratories in the area and it was in flames.

Max saw a female yellow chameleon, she was one of the scientist, she was stood outside of the building screaming, "someone help" Max ran over to the female scientists, she turned to see Max and Sugar running over to her.

"What's the matter?" Max asked her

"The others scientists are still trapped inside" she yelled.

Sugar looked at Max then replied "Max the fire serve's, aren't going to get here in time"

Max looked at the building, having a small fear to fire; he approached the inferno, but was stopped by Sugar's hand on his shoulder.

"Max, no don't go" she asked him remembering her vision.

"I'll be ok" Max continued into the building.

Max entered the building, it was so hot because of the inferno around him, but thanks to his psychic abilities, he had created a shield of psychic energy that was pushing's the fire away from him as he walked down the corridor.

"Hello is anyone here" Max yelled, he turned a corner to see a wall of fire, {no, not this way} he through, he turned to walk another way.

"Help, help" a voice called.

Max turned sharply to the cry, he then started to run, and he called "I'm coming".

As he ran past a room that he had past a while ago, it suddenly without warning exploded in his face, which sending him flying into lab that was already an inferno, he hit the side of one lab's walls, the equipment on top of the table fell on him and he soon became unconscious.

Max shook his head to clear his thoughts {that's in the past now} he looked at the T.V. and saw the reporter now interviewing the crime fighter, Max was in shock his own face slowly turned pal, he whispered only two words "he's alive".

Max ran out of his apartment and down the stairs he saw the others, but didn't say a thing to them, the minuet he got into the hanger he took off in the Crossfire as he sat in the pilot seat he thought to himself {he's alive, after all these years}.

It was an 18 hours flight to the continent Laurasia, the small ship arrived in New York City air space Max radioed the control town.

"This is Max piloting the Crossfire may I land".

"Control town 7, to the pilot of the Crossfire you have permission to land in zone 3" the female robotic voice said.

Max sighted to himself {great I coming to a city with humans in and to top that this city has the highest crime record around, why me}.

The Crossfire landed in zone 3 and Max exited the ship, he walked into the centre of the spaceport then he walked outside into the streets.

looking around he moved down the street until he lost site of the spaceport, after hours of walking around he was finally lost, then heard a noise that was behind him slowly turning around to see gang of 23 weasels, all glaring at him, Max wasn't worried he looked at each of them slowly, then added by saying "Well this is a nice welcome meeting, hi boys, I'm new in this city would you mind telling some of the sites" Max said jokingly.

The leader of the gang of criminals was a tall red weasel "My boys here, well give you a welcome to remember".

"Oh I'm so scared" Max said in a mocking way.

The leader commanded his gang to attack, Max just stood in the middle of the road, waiting for the gang moved closer and closer to him, then at the last minute he moved away grabbing 2 of the weasels he then knock out 8, Max then used his telekinesis ability and threw 5 of them way down the street they some stood and ran off, now their was only the leader and 7 members left.

"Do you give up"? Max asked.

"NEVER" the leader shouted at him, the leader then commanded the last of his gang to attack, but the same thing happened to them, Max kicked and punched 4, knocking them out cold, the last 3 he used pyro ability and shot fire balls from his right hand that them.

Max walked slowly up to the red weasel and looked into his eyes, "so you think you can kill me by yourself" Max stepped back teasing the criminal, "come on, then hit me if you can".

In pure anger the weasel pulled out of his pocket a handgun and started to fire it at Max, but the bullets never hit him all that the bullets did was fly off in all directions, "What!! Why can't I hit you?" the weasel yelled in anger.

Max's smiled softly and he spoke with a calmness "Oh, that would be telling", he jumped up over the weasel and kicked the weasel in the face hard, the weasel hit the ground seconds later he very slowly tried stated to stand up again. Max bent down to his eye level "I wouldn't if I were you" the weasel looked up surprised at the hedgehogs scarlet eyes, and nodded he lay back down.

After an hour the police arrived and from the shadows Max waited until the criminals had been arrested, once all had been taken Max then continued to walk down the street.

After walking the streets for about another hour or so, Max soon arrived at a café, he walked in and ordered a cup of coffee and grabbed a newspaper and he then sat down at one of the café's chairs, he sat near the window, he looked out to was still dark outside he closed his eye and sighed "oh where are you", a noise tore him from the window. He looked over his shoulder to the door to see two echidnas, one an light blue colour and was a lot younger then the other darker blue, the two sat in the café not far from where Max was sat, Max could not help by overheard them talking.

The young echidna started "Dr. Arrow, do you know why these metal foxes are attacking the city so much, I wonder what they what with the city".

The one named Arrow then said "I don't know, young one, but the answer will come to us in time".

"Sir, may I ask have you heard anything from Scott and Ash in the last few days".

"I sorry, Bill I haven't" the old voice was full of sadness; "both left two day ago to stop the metal foxes on the east part of the city and they haven't come back yet".

Max turned to look at the two echidnas "excuse me, but did you say Scott and Ash, their last name isn't by any chance Staff, is it".

Arrow turned around to look at the white hedgehog in the crimson leather trench coat, Arrow then noticed on the table in front of the hedgehog a sword, the old echidna replied, "why yes, but most people call them Crime fighter or the Twin Knights, can I ask how you know their true name".

"I'm an old friend of the family" Max stopped remembering the attack 16 years ago on his village, "I haven't seen him in a long time".

"Oh" is all Arrow said.

Bill looked at the hedgehog then he looked at Arrow again, he then looked over at the sad looked on the hedgehogs face, Bill then sighed and asked "may I ask what is your name".

Max looked at the two echidna then replied "oh I'm sorry my name is Max Evelyn, I used to live in small town called Cascade falls, the Staff's family used to live there once" Max paused not in sadness "I only knew them for 7 mouths, a short time really, but both our families became good friends".

Arrow remembered what Samuel had told him once, the Staff family had lived for a short time in a small town called by that name they had moved from the town after it had been attacked by the Drakons, Samuel had only told Arrow that because both of his sons were too young to fully remember the place, that happened 16 years ago, Arrow looked at Max "Ok, I'll take you to see them".

Max looked up shocked at the echidnas then he said "thank you, a lot".

The three left the café after paying, Max, Bill and Arrow walked down the street back to the home, with no trouble.

Bill turned his head to look at Max, Max looked back at him, he finally had an enough of him "what?" Max asked.

Bill looked down at the ground as the three walked, then he looked back up and asked, "Where do you live now".

Max smiled and said "Nimbius city"

Bill stopped and looked at the back of the hedgehog with shocked "WOW, Nimbius city that's on another continent, WOW".

Max turned and smiled at him, "it's nice to see you're happy about that" he replied.

So time past by and Arrow had stopped a head of them, he turned see the two talking to each other, "we are here boys" Arrow called to the two down the street, once the two walked up to him, he then knocked the front door and called someone's name "Samuel"

As the door slowly opened a voice welcomed them in "Why Dr.Arrow it's so nice to see you, but don't you think it's very late" the three walked in and saw the owner of the voice who was a green female hedgehog.

"Summer" Arrow said as she took them into the front room.

After a while a noise of a wheelchair was heard, Max turned around to see a dark blue hedgehog in a wheelchair moving slowly to them, "Arrow, how nice to see you" said the blue hedgehog then he noticed Max "and who is this, Arrow".

Max smiled remembering who the old hedgehog in wheelchair was and he simply said "Max" he paused and then said his full name "Max Evelyn"

For a moment Samuel looked confused, but then it hit him "Max Evelyn, my dear child, how is your mother Laura and your father Xavier" he moved closer to Max.

This broke Max's heart to remember what had happened, but Samuel didn't know of their fate, Max told them what had happened to his adopted family "my adopted father 'Xavier' died about 10 years ago and my adopted mother died only 4 months ago by one of these metal foxes".

Samuel asked, "Oh my dear boy, I'm sorry Max".

Max looked at him after a short time he said "you didn't know".

"I can see that child" Samuel said feeling a bit sad then he started to smile "oh I heard from my sons, half an hour go, Arrow".

"Oh" was all the doctor could say.

Just then from the front door the sound of two young male voices were heard, Max turned only his head to the door to see two green hedgehogs enter the room both laughing.

"Scott, Ash" Max called overjoyed to see his friends again.

Scotty looked confused at the white hedgehog and asked, "Who are you".

Max remembered the last time Scotty had seen him, back then he was only a normal brown hedgehog, not white, red and black and a specially without nanites in his blood Max smiled "it's been a long time old friend".

Ash who was stood next to his brother stared to laugh he then smiled and said warmly "hi Max, been a long time".

Max smiled at him but was still looking at Scotty; the two never broke eye contact.

Scotty looked deeply into Max's scarlet eyes and he whispered "on I remember those eyes, Max".

Suddenly Max's mobile phone rang, "talk about bad timing" Max said he reached into his pocket and pulled out the ranging phone, he was about to turn it off when he looked at the message, all it said was [foxes headed you're way, Fearcat], Max looked up at the window "oh great, they followed me" he yelled, he turned in fear to Scotty's family, "sorry, we have to cut this short".

"Why Max, what's happing" asked Scotty confused.

Outside the house explosions could be heard, Max ran to the front door he looked back at Ash and Scotty, he then shouted at Scotty, "get your family away now" Max then open the door and ran out shunting the door behind him.

Both green hedgehogs looked at each other then turned to there family and the two echidnas.

"Go my sons, help him" Samuel said to them, Samuel, Arrow and Bill all ran out the back door.
