Sonic Series Fan Fiction ❯ Project: Blitz ❯ Seeking Shelter ( Chapter 5 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

Sorry about the extreme delay in this update but I've been under major pressure from school work, to the point where I began to carve arcane runes into my forehead with a crudely sharpened origami swan.

Night had fallen and Blitz was unsure of where to find shelter. He had previously slept in abandoned buildings and warehouses in the Station Square industrial district, but the last train to Station Square had long since departed, leaving Blitz no choice but to return to Tails' workshop and request refuge for the night. He doubted that, in his current state, he'd even be able to make it that far. After his encounter with the Master Emerald, Blitz found that his stamina was quickly exhausted, forcing him to pace his running so as not to fatigue himself.

From a safe distance away, Shadow watched Blitz intently, as he would run for about 50 meters, and then collapse to one knee, breathing heavily, before running off again “This is the pathetic creature who matched me in combat? He can barely walk!! I should just annihilate him now, but… I can't. I must learn how he acquired such strength.”

One and a half gruelling hours later…

Blitz rapped his knuckles on the door and leant against the frame, huffing gently. He received no answer. Knocking again, he thought that maybe coming back was a waste of time, but then reconciled that in his current condition, he didn't have a choice. The door finally opened and Tails stood in the doorway while Sonic snored loudly on the sofa behind him “What are you doing here, Blitz? It's 3am for crying out loud!” “Can I stay here tonight Tails? Something's wrong with me and I don't know what.” Taken back by the incredibly direct nature of Blitz's request, Tails furrowed his brow “What's the magic word?” “…Well?” Tails sighed at Blitz's apparent lack of manners but judging from some of the other outbursts he had been so lucky as to experience, he decided that this was as polite as Blitz got “Fine. You can stay here tonight, but on one condition.” “……..” “You gotta answer me some questions.” Blitz looked at him with a puzzled expression “Is that it? You don't want money or nothing?” “Well money would be nice but…” “Dream on kid, I don't have any.” He strolled straight past Tails and into the front room, and noticed something move just out of his field of vision. Turning his head he saw a small rabbit poking her head out from behind a door. As he made eye contact with her, she shied away in what could only be interpreted as fear. Tails walked over to the young rabbit and she disappeared back into the room “I'll be out in a little while, Blitz.” Blitz nodded his head in compliance but soon began to shake it, and smirked as small yelps emanated from the occupied room “Are they even old enough for that kinda stuff?”

Fifteen loooooong minutes later…

Blitz, who had begun to drift off to sleep, shot awake upon hearing a shrill voice scream out “TAILS!!” Shortly after, Tails emerged, his fur matted with sweat “So, who's your lady friend?” “Her name is Cream and I'm asking the questions here” “Jeez, sorry I asked…” “I checked out…” Blitz held up a hand and shook his head “This is bugging me already. Don't you think you and your friend are a little young to be foolin' around like that?” “We were just playing…” “Well, you might wanna rethink your choice of game, kid” “Well, yeah, I suppose we should, I mean I did hurt her arm accidently.” “Her arm?!? What the crap!?” “Well I'm bigger than she is so it was bound to happen.” “…you've lost me.” “We were arm wrestling. What else would we be doing?” “…never mind.” “Anyway, enough of that, you've got some explaining to do.” “Shoot, kid.” “What do you have to do with space colony ARK?” Blitz's face twisted into a look of surprise. Space colony ARK was the last thing he had expected Tails to bring up “What do you know about me and the ARK?” “Hey I said I'm asking the questions and…” Tails was abruptly cut off as Blitz rose to his feet and towered over him “I asked you a question kid. What do you know about me and the ARK?” Tails gulped but he stood firm “Nothing...” Blitz took a step towards him in an anything but friendly manner, causing Tails to panic and shield his face with his arms “Nothing except for two dates!!!” Blitz stopped and stared at the quivering kitsune before stepping backwards and taking up his seat again “Did I scare you?” Tails lowered his arms and stopped shaking a little and looked over to the now once again seated Blitz “A little.” Tails tried to sound confident but his voice wavered from his shaking and he ended up sounding slightly more afraid “Sorry about that, kid. It's just I don't get a lot of people who ask me about the ARK.” Regaining full control of his body, Tails took a couple of deep breaths and shook his head “I still want to know how you are connected to it, for your sake and mine.” “Why for my sake?” “The hedgehog that attacked you, Shadow, he was created on the ARK. I don't think he's attacking you for no reason, not that I'd put it past him though. I think it's something to do with you being connected to the ARK.” “What gives you that idea?” “I can't think of any other reasons why he'd attack you…” “Well then, what do you want to…wait, not around him.” Blitz raised a hand and pointed at Sonic, who still dozed on the sofa. Tails looked at Blitz, puzzled “Why not?” “I'll tell you when we're somewhere else.” Tails shrugged “Fine. We'll go into my workshop then.” He walked over to a door and pushed it open, before gesturing for Blitz to enter.

Tails closed the door and turned to Blitz “Why did we have to come in here away from…” Blitz interrupted him “You know that, when 2 creatures of different species breed and offspring are produced, there is a dominant gene that dictates the nature of the offspring and its abilities. So if a hedgehog and a bat where to breed, then the offspring would either be a bat or a hedgehog, not a combination of the two. There are, of course, exceptions in some areas, as offspring may inherit the skin or eye colour of the recessive parent.” Tails sat on a stool and looked blankly at him “I thought you were supposed to be the smart one?” “I am, I just don't really understand what this has to do with you and the ARK.” “I'm getting to it, ok?” Tails nodded in affirmation and Blitz continued “Researchers aboard the ARK were determined to see if they could break the boundaries of interspecies breeding and develop a lifeform with aspects of two species through various gene splicing techniques. They took genes from a soldier, of echidna descent, who was stationed on board the ARK at the time, and the other genes were acquired from a hedgehog researched who had been assigned to the project. The hedgehog is important, but I'll cover that later. Upon acquiring the genes, the Biological Lifeform Integration Test: Zeta project, `Project B.L.I.T.Z'. for short, commenced. If you're wondering about the Zeta part, that was the security clearance level for the details of the assignment. The researchers struggled from the start as they were unable to successfully fuse the genes to one another, as they consistently rejected one another. One scientist however, had the idea to try and harness the immense energy of a chaos emerald in a bid to force the conflicting genes together. His idea was successful and the genes merged to form a new breed of creature, and the project took on the new title of `Chaos Fusion'. The success was short lived once the product of their labour was discovered to be incredibly unstable and would kill itself if not contained within a specific environment. The environment in which it had to be contained in however would greatly hinder its ability to develop. After much deliberation, the researchers, once more, decided to use the chaos emeralds energy to affect the flow of time around the unstable mass, in the hopes that it would develop within its environment at a hyper advanced rate. Once more they struck gold with the idea and the creature successfully developed into a living, breathing creature. If you hadn't already guessed, I'm that creature. That's how I'm connected to the ARK. I was created there.” Tails still sat, mouth now agape at the slew of information he'd just taken in. He regained his composure and shook his head lightly “Wow, I guess that answers that then… but I still don't understand what was so important about that hedgehog researcher.” “The hedgehog that donated her genes to create me, is, or was, Sonic's biological mother.” Tails jumped up from his stool “But that means you're like Sonic's half brother or something!?!?!” Blitz gently nodded once, silently acknowledging that that could indeed be feasible, before carrying on as though he had never been stopped by Tail's outburst “He was born aboard the ARK about 7 months after I came into existence. Sadly, she was tragically killed when GUN stormed the station. She was informed, by a friend of hers who worked for GUN, about the impending invasion however, and she had both me and Sonic sent to Earth beforehand, against the knowledge of the crew. She then deleted as many of the production details and records pertaining to my creation and existence, and developed a false identity for me under the name Blitz, which she then implanted into the records database of Earth.” He stopped abruptly at this point and Tails, who had been listening intently, looked slightly surprised that he wasn't continuing “Is that all there is?” “I don't know what else there is to say to be honest. I can't think of anything else right now at any rate.” Tails nodded for the umpteenth time signifying that he had heard more than enough to sate his hunger for information “By the way, I think it would be for the best if we kept this from Sonic, at least for the time being.” Tails placed his hand on the door handle “Sure thing Blitz.” Blitz smiled slightly “Now that's outta the way, I'll be requiring that bed you promised me.” “I didn't promi…” Before Tails could finish his sentence Blitz had walked past him and disappeared into his bedroom, herded Cream out and locked the door from the inside. Tails sighed and his shoulders heaved “God dammit.”

Man this turned out to be an information heavy chapter, but hey I tried to put some humour in there, even if it wasn't really that effective. Still, I like the way this chapter turned out.

P.S. I have no idea when I will do the next chapter, but I do intend to finish this fic, even if I do it very, very slowly. As for now, I'm going to dip my head into a small bowl of powerful snake venom, to what ends I am currently unsure.
