17:09 Tokyo, Japan

Tokyo Earthquake Monitoring Center

* A group of seismologists are sitting at their desks when a strong earthquake hits them. *

Man 1: Woah! Everyone brace yourselves!

Man 2: 7.3 magnitude, going up fast!

Man 1: Where's the epicenter?

Man 3: (in background) 7.7 and rising!

Man 2: (looks at screen) Oh my God…

Man 1: Well?!

Man 4: (in background) It's reached a steady 8.2!

Man 2: Station Square, sir!

* All heads turn when they hear the location of the epicenter, knowing that's where Sonic and his friends live… *

22:43 Station Square, Japan

* Believe it or not, the earthquake felt in Tokyo was caused by none other than a volcanic eruption in Station Square. By this time, most of Station Square has been engulfed in lava. But that doesn't stop Tails from flying overhead, as he appears to be scanning the area from above. *

Tails: (speaking into headset) Sonic, come in.

Sonic: (through Tails' headset) Yeah Tails?

Tails: Where are you now?

Sonic: I'm just entering the city. Tails, are you sure she's still in Station Square? Yes, I know she had contacted me earlier, but she could've found a way out by now.

Tails: I wouldn't count on her finding a way out. From what I can see, the earthquake the volcano caused prevented anyone from escaping.

Sonic: (with quickly increasing static) I just hope she's alright. (continuous static)

Tails: Sonic? Are you there? Come in! Come in Sonic! (realizing Sonic's transmitter is down) Dammit! (throws headset off out of frustration)

* Down below, a lava rock is seen soaring through the air, crashing into a building hard enough to knock it down. Amy, however, is seen running right under the tower as it collapses, barely getting crushed. *

Amy: (panting heavily) I might as well just give up. There's no sign of the others anywhere.

???: (in distance) Amy?! Amy?!

Amy: Huh? (calling out) Sonic! Over here!

* Sonic jumps over the fallen tower and lands near Amy. *

Sonic: (to himself) I made it.

Amy: Sonic! You gotta help me! I couldn't get out in time!

Sonic: What happened anyway?

Amy: An earthquake knocked my apartment down, making me unconscious for a couple hours. And when I woke, I tried to escape, but I found out that all the exits from the city - bridges, roads, ports, you name it - were destroyed. That's why I called you.

Sonic: Thank God for cell phones. I'm surprised I was able to get a signal. But from the nearby mountain, I could barely make out what looked like a ring of lava surrounding the city. I can understand why you couldn't escape. And it wasn't easy for me getting in here either.

Amy: How did you?

Sonic: I had to hop from fallen building to fallen building without falling off myself.

???: There you are!

Sonic: Tails!

Tails: (lands near Sonic and Amy) You're safe!

Sonic: My transmitter went down. I was wondering if you had been hurt or something afterwards.

Tails: I'm still safe and sound!

Sonic: What about Rouge and Cream? Do they know you've found us?

Tails: (pause, then) I've lost contact with them, Sonic.

Amy: What? You mean -?

Tails: (to Amy) Most likely.

Amy: (starts sobbing) No! Why Cream? She's too young to die!

Tails: I'm sorry, Amy. I wish it hadn't happened either.

* Tails then notices the sound of something falling hard and fast. He turns around only to find a lava rock about to land on him. He gets squashed before he can do anything about, though. *

Sonic: Tails!!

* Another earthquake hits, and some of the gravel beneath Amy crumbles, trapping her right foot. *

Amy: No! (tries to pull foot out) I'm stuck!

Sonic: Quick. Let me. (tries to pull Amy's foot out, but fails miserably) These natural disasters are really getting out of hand. They're ruining my life one way or another!

Amy: Wait a minute. I forgot you gave me the Chaos Emerald! (takes the clear Emerald out of her right pocket) Use Chaos Control!

Sonic: Give it to me! (takes the Emerald from Amy) Chaos -

* Before Sonic can use Chaos Control, yet another earthquake hits, and a slab of ground falls out from under his feet, revealing a raging river of magma in the subway below. Sonic is caught off-guard, as the Chaos Emerald slips out of his hand and lands near Amy. He is barely able to grab the edge of the newly formed "slope" in time before he would've slid to his death. *

Amy: No! Sonic!

Sonic: (quickly) Hot hot hot hot hot hot hot hot hot hot hot hot hot hot!

Amy: (holds hand out, trying to reach him) I can't reach you, Sonic!

Sonic: Amy, leave me! Save yourself! I can't hold on much longer!

* A wave of magma washes up the broken road, barely missing Sonic. However, the intense heat causes his legs to burst into flame.

Sonic: YAAAAHHHHH!!!!!

* Sonic's hands let go of the road, and he tumbles down into the magma. *

Amy: (loudly) SONIC!!

* Echoes can be heard from Amy's scream. The clear Emerald nearby, as well as Amy, begins sparkling, and within seconds the two have disappeared. *

**************************************************************** ****************************I apologize to anyone who may not have wanted to see some of their favorite Sonic Team characters die in this chapter. But regardless, please review this fic! And please, hold your complaints about "story mistakes" until after the fic is finished. I plan to explain some things in this scene later on in the story.
