February 24, 7:00 A. M
Shadow and Crystal had been married for six months now, they'd been having very unusual
weather lately: It would snow and be hotter than hades all in the same hour.
Shadow woke up from the most pleasant sleep he'd had in years, he looked over to his left where
Crystal was fast asleep, clutching Shadow's arm. When he got his arm back, he put on his
gloves, bracelets, socks and shoes.
"Good morning, Master Shadow. Did you sleep well?" Crystal's butler, Francois the Chao said.
"Yes, I did. Can't explain it."Shadow replied.
Shadow walked down to the living room and sat down on the couch. Crystal walked down to the
living room, wearing her normal clothes: A puke green t-shirt, baggy blue jeans, a black bandana
around her forehead, and blue camouflage shoes.
"Good morning, Shadzie."Crystal said.
"Ger. Don't call me that!"Shadow said, annoyed. (Crystal just does that to be annoying)
Crystal sat down next to Shadow and kissed him on the cheek, making Shadow blush a little bit.
There was a long silence. Suddenly, Crystal's colorless fur started to turn green,(Crystal is an
albino mountain hedgehog, white is not a color, it's a shade) her legs began to get a little
wobbly, then she threw up on Shadow.*L. M. A. O*
"Gross!!!"Shadow exclaimed.
"I'm sorry, Shadow."Crystal replied.
Shadow went to the bathroom to clean himself off and wondered if Crystal was feeling alright.
When Shadow got back to the living room, Crystal was still on the couch, her fur greener than
ever.
"Crystal, I think you should see the doctor."Shadow said, feeling concerned.
"I think you're right."
Shadow called Crystal's doctor.
"Hello? I would like to make a doctor's appointment for my wife, Crystal."
"Bring Crystal to the doctor's office at twelve- thirty this afternoon."
"Thank you."
"How are you doing today, Crystal?" Dr. Johnson, Crystal's doctor asked
"Not so good, I've been throwing up all day." Crystal replied to the young hero Chao.
Dr. Johnson led them to a small room. Crystal sat down on the bench while Shadow sat on a
chair, next to her. Dr. Johnson listened to Crystal's heart beat and everything else that a doctor
does. (Hey, I'm only eleven, what would you expect?) Dr. Johnson took the paper on his clip
board to the lab. A few minutes later, Dr. Johnson returned.
"I have the results. Crystal, you're not sick, you're pregnant." He said.
"What did you say?!0___0" Crystal and Shadow said at the same time.
"You heard me." Dr. Johnson replied.
"Since you are hedgehogs, I would say it should be about three or four weeks. Crystal, your next
appointment will be on Monday."
Shadow couldn't believe that he was going to be a father, he'd never thought it was possible.
After all, Shadow wasn't a real hedgehog but he didn't care.
"Shadow, are you hoping for a girl or a boy?" Crystal asked.
"Well, it doesn't matter to me."Shadow replied.
March 3, 1:00 P. M
"You seem to be doing just fine, Crystal. You must be taking good care of yourself."Dr. Johnson
said. "Your next appointment will be in one week."
Even though Crystal was doing okay, Shadow was worried.
"What if the weather doesn't go back to normal? What if we get snowed into our house?"
Shadow thought.
He was a nervous wreck, he couldn't sleep, he couldn't eat. These worries were quite
overwhelming .
March 10, 3:00 P. M
Crystal and Shadow went to see Dr. Johnson. They were very curious as to what would happen
now because Dr. Johnson hadn't told them what would happen at the next appointment.
"Good afternoon, Crystal, Shadow."
"What are you going to do today?"Crystal asked, her voice full of curiosity.
"An ultrasound."Dr. Johnson replied.
Dr. Johnson brought them to a room labeled "5E". Crystal was told to lie down on the bed in the
corner. Shadow sat down on a chair next to Crystal. Dr. Johnson brought a small machine with
him when he came over to them, he turned it on and used it.(Most of you probably know how it
works so I won't put it into detail.)On the screen, appeared a black and white side view of a
hoglet, (baby hedgehog) there was no color but it did look like Shadow, it's arms were also
crossed. Shadow was really astonished by the exact shape of the hoglet's spines.
That evening, Shadow found Crystal sitting on the couch with a letter in her hand, she was
crying.
"Crystal, what's wrong?"Shadow asked.
"I got a letter from my mother, she said my father died.*whimper, sniffle*"Crystal replied.
"It's okay, please don't cry. I hate to see you cry."Shadow pleaded.
Shadow hugged Crystal.
"You're so sweet, I love you.*sniffle*"Crystal said.
"I love you too."Shadow cooed.
They spent about two minutes hugging each other, Shadow knew she was still crying because he
could hear her sniffles and he felt her tears streaming down his chest. He'd never seen Crystal
this torn up, it reminded him of when he lost his best friend, Maria Robotnik.
March 18, 6:00 A.M.
Crystal couldn't sleep, she couldn't help but remember that horrible letter her mother had sent.
Suddenly, a sharp pain hit her, it was the most unbearable thing she'd ever felt.
"Shadow! Shadow, get up, now!" Crystal said.
"What?"Shadow said sleepily.
"Shadow, I think I'm in labor."Crystal said.
"Oh my god!"Shadow said.
He went over and looked out the window.
"Crystal, we can't go to the hospital, we've been snowed in!"
Shadow was very scared, he could hear Crystal's quick and frantic breathing, that only scared
him more.
"Go get Francois, he knows a safer place in this house... please, go!"
"What's going on in here?"Francois said sleepily.
Shadow whispered what happened in Francois's ear.
"...Follow me." Francois said.
He lead them to a room that looked like a well kept basement. Francois told Crystal to lie down
on the bed but not to lie flat. To Shadow's surprise, it was rather warm in the room, he grabbed a chair and sat to Crystal's left.
All of this seemed to go on for hours, every once in a while he would hear this blood knurling
scream. It was hard to believe that those screams were coming from Crystal.
"You're almost there."Francois said.
After a few minutes, Crystal stopped screaming and the sound of a crying baby could be heard.
Shadow looked over to Francois, in his arms was the smallest hoglet Shadow had ever seen.
Shadow thought it looked like a black and red drowned rat.(L.O.L.)
"It's a girl." Francois said.
March 18, 10:00 A.M.
Shadow couldn't believe it.
"How could something that looks so much like me be a girl?"Shadow thought.
He could still hear Crystal panting.
"Crystal, are you okay?"Shadow asked.
No answer.
"Francois, I think Crystal might be hurt."
Francois handed the hoglet to Shadow, she was still wet, and went to see Crystal. Shadow
grabbed a white blanket and wrapped his daughter in it, she was still hollering. Shadow sat down
in a chair and hoped that Crystal was okay. He started to rock his daughter back and fourth
slowly, soon enough, she fell asleep.
"Master Shadow,"Francois said.
"Yes?"
"I'm afraid Crystal has been badly injured, I can't help her. I'm afraid she won't be saved. She wants to see you.
Shadow walked over to Crystal with their daughter in his arms.
"Shadow, is that you?"Crystal said weakly.
"Yes, it's me. Are you feeling any pain?"(If you've seen Signs, then you'll see s similarity
between this scene and a scene in Signs.)
"No, not really."
"Good, would you like to hold your daughter?"Shadow asked.
"Of course."
Crystal propped herself up and Shadow handed the hoglet to her mother.
(Sss continued)
"Oh Shadow, she's beautiful, she looks just like you. It's such a shame that I won't live long
enough to watch her grow up."Crystal said.
"How did you..."
Crystal put a finger to Shadow's lips.
"Shhh... that doesn't matter now. So, what are you going to name her?"Crystal asked.
Shadow thought about that, he sensed a great amount of innocence in this child. Then, a name
hit him.
"How about Maria?"Shadow suggested.
"That's a beautiful name, okay, you can call her Maria."
Crystal handed Maria back to Shadow. Shadow began to cry.
"Crystal, don't leave me. You're the first to show me any kindness in years, you saved my life, I
love you.*sniffle, whimper*"Shadow begged.
"I'm entrusting Maria to you. Love her, take care of her as if she were your most precious
possession."Crystal said.
She squinted as though in pain.
"Goodbye, Shadow the hedgehog. I love you."Crystal said.
"I love you too."Shadow replied.
Crystal used the last of her strength to pull herself up close to Shadow. Both of them shared their
last and most passionate kiss. After a minute, Shadow felt Crystal's tight grip on his shoulder
loosen until her head fell back.
"Goodbye...Angel."Shadow said, placing Crystal's body back on the bed.
Shadow's eyes filled with tears and he silently cried. He began to think, " Maybe it was my fault
Crystal died, maybe if my daughter hadn't been born, Crystal would still be here."
March 18, 10:30 A.M.
"Francois, go get my digging and carving tools please."Shadow said.
A few minutes later, Francois brought the tools along with some wood.
"Take Maria and I'll take the tools."Shadow said.
The sun had just melted the snow so Shadow knew this was the perfect time to burry Crystal
before it started snowing again or before it got hotter than hades. When they got to the island in
the backyard, Shadow worked on building a coffin(he was a fine carpenter) as best he could.
Maria was set down next to the oak tree. When Francois had finished digging the hole in the
ground and Shadow had built the coffin, they put crystal in it and buried her. Shadow had
brought a large piece of marble and carved a head stone with it. Shadow picked up his daughter and looked up at the sky.
"Crystal, I promise you, I will protect your daughter even if it means giving my life to do it."
"Master Shadow! It's getting late, lets go home!"
Shadow went home and thought about his promise. He wanted to know if it really was his fault
that Crystal died.
It was late, Shadow was sitting on the couch with Maria still asleep. Suddenly, Maria started
crying, she was obviously hungry because she hadn't eaten anything all day. Shadow went into
the kitchen and filled a bottle with warm cows' milk. He brought the bottle to Maria. Since she
was only three hours old, she couldn't hold the bottle by herself.(duh)She drank from the bottle
gratefully.
That night, Shadow had a dream...no, a nightmare. He was in a dark place. Shadow noticed
someone in the distance.
"Crystal! It's you! I never thought I'd see you again!"Shadow said as he ran up and hugged her.
"Murderer! Why did you kill me? I thought you loved me!" 'Crystal' said.
"But I do love you!"Shadow said.
"It's your fault I'm gone! You killed me! It's your fault!"
"NO! I didn't kill you!"
(Nightmare continued)
"Since you killed me, I must take your most precious possession!"
'Crystal' snapped her fingers and two black ghosts appeared, Shadow heard Maria's familiar cry.
"You're not Crystal, the Crystal I know wouldn't hurt a fly. You're nothing but a cold- hearted
bitch."Shadow said with no remorse.
The ghosts dropped Maria into what looked like acid.
"NOOOOO!!!"Shadow yelled as he woke up in the pitch black night, Maria was crying.
He ran to Maria's bedroom, she was safe in her bed, the thunder must have scared her. Shadow
picked Maria up and went back to his bedroom. Shadow put Maria in his bed and both went to
sleep.
March 19, 8:00 A. M.
Shadow woke up finding a black and red ball of fur against his chest. He reached for the phone
and requested to speak with Dr. Johnson.
"Yes, Shadow?"Dr. Johnson said over the phone.
"Well, Crystal died after giving birth to my daughter, we were snowed into our house and I want
to make a doctor's appointment for my daughter."Shadow said.
"Eleven forty-five."Dr. Johnson said.
Three hours and forty-five minutes later, Shadow brought Maria to see Dr. Johnson.
"This is the healthiest hedgehog I've ever seen. Please take good care of her."
"I will." Shadow said.
March 26, 12:00 P. M.
Shadow went over to the island where Crystal had been buried. He stayed all day. Maria was
going to open her eyes for the first time.(Hedgehogs are born with their eyes closed.) Shadow
gazed at his daughter as she slowly opened her eyes revealing a pair of beautiful sapphire blue
eyes. She looked sleepy for some reason . Then a ray of sunlight flashed into her eyes.
"0___0" *L. O. L.*
Shadow moved away from the sunlight and continued to look down at those beautiful blue eyes,
They looked just like Crystal's blue eyes. Maria closed her eyes with a smile on her face and
scooted closer to Shadow.

Shadow had never felt this way about a child before, he found that little fuzz ball very
cute.(Maria's spines haven't hardened yet.)The sun was setting, Shadow took Maria back to the
house. Maria started crying, Shadow got a bottle for her and after she finished it, both of them
went to bed.
That night, Shadow had a dream, this one was actual communication from the dead. Shadow
found himself in a beautiful field, in the middle was a cherry tree. Shadow looked over to his left
and saw someone he never thought he would see again. It was a young girl hedgehog who was
white, she wore a light green(light green, not puke green) dress that went just below her knees.
Both hedgehogs glanced at each other and ran over to hug one another.
"Crystal, is it really you?!"Shadow asked.
"Yes, Shadow, It's me."Crystal replied.
The two of them kissed each other passionately as they were more than happy to see each other.
"Crystal, am I dead?"
"No, you're not dead. I'm just speaking with you through a dream."
The two of them walked hand in hand over to the cherry tree and began to talk about what had
happened over the past several weeks, they shared old stories and jokes.
"I've missed you so much, I wish there was a way you could come home."Shadow said.
"Well, I would if I could but earth isn't my home anymore, besides, Jesus said that there isn't
anything he can do, it's all up to his father."
"What does Jesus look like?"Shadow asked.
"He's a brown hedgehog with dark eyes and he wears a gray robe."Crystal replied.
The sun began to set.
"You're going to wake up soon, I'll be back tomorrow."Crystal said.
They kissed each other goodbye but they would see each other again.
March 27, 9:30 A. M
Shadow woke up slowly and then went to see if Maria was awake, she was just waking up.
"*chuckle* Hello, Maria."Shadow said.
"Mph"Maria replied.(Don't forget, she's just a baby.)
Shadow picked Maria up and kissed her on the cheek . In return, she giggled a little bit. They

was still tired so he rested his eyes for a while.
"Daddy!" a small voice said.

"It's your fault I'm gone! You killed me! It's your fault!"
"NO! I didn't kill you!"
(Nightmare continued)
"Since you killed me, I must take your most precious possession!"
'Crystal' snapped her fingers and two black ghosts appeared, Shadow heard Maria's familiar cry.
"You're not Crystal, the Crystal I know wouldn't hurt a fly. You're nothing but a cold- hearted
bitch."Shadow said with no remorse.
The ghosts dropped Maria into what looked like acid.
"NOOOOO!!!"Shadow yelled as he woke up in the pitch black night, Maria was crying.
He ran to Maria's bedroom, she was safe in her bed, the thunder must have scared her. Shadow
picked Maria up and went back to his bedroom. Shadow put Maria in his bed and both went to
sleep.
March 19, 8:00 A. M.
Shadow woke up finding a black and red ball of fur against his chest. He reached for the phone
and requested to speak with Dr. Johnson.
"Yes, Shadow?"Dr. Johnson said over the phone.
"Well, Crystal died after giving birth to my daughter, we were snowed into our house and I want
to make a doctor's appointment for my daughter."Shadow said.
"Eleven forty-five."Dr. Johnson said.
Three hours and forty-five minutes later, Shadow brought Maria to see Dr. Johnson.
"This is the healthiest hedgehog I've ever seen. Please take good care of her."
"I will." Shadow said.
March 26, 12:00 P. M.
Shadow went over to the island where Crystal had been buried. He stayed all day. Maria was
going to open her eyes for the first time.(Hedgehogs are born with their eyes closed.) Shadow
gazed at his daughter as she slowly opened her eyes revealing a pair of beautiful sapphire blue
eyes. She looked sleepy for some reason . Then a ray of sunlight flashed into her eyes.
"0___0" *L. O. L.*
Shadow moved away from the sunlight and continued to look down at those beautiful blue eyes,
They looked just like Crystal's blue eyes. Maria closed her eyes with a smile on her face and
scooted closer to Shadow.

Shadow had never felt this way about a child before, he found that little fuzz ball very
cute.(Maria's spines haven't hardened yet.)The sun was setting, Shadow took Maria back to the
house. Maria started crying, Shadow got a bottle for her and after she finished it, both of them
went to bed.
That night, Shadow had a dream, this one was actual communication from the dead. Shadow
found himself in a beautiful field, in the middle was a cherry tree. Shadow looked over to his left
and saw someone he never thought he would see again. It was a young girl hedgehog who was
white, she wore a light green(light green, not puke green) dress that went just below her knees.
Both hedgehogs glanced at each other and ran over to hug one another.
"Crystal, is it really you?!"Shadow asked.
"Yes, Shadow, It's me."Crystal replied.
The two of them kissed each other passionately as they were more than happy to see each other.
"Crystal, am I dead?"
"No, you're not dead. I'm just speaking with you through a dream."
The two of them walked hand in hand over to the cherry tree and began to talk about what had
happened over the past several weeks, they shared old stories and jokes.
"I've missed you so much, I wish there was a way you could come home."Shadow said.
"Well, I would if I could but earth isn't my home anymore, besides, Jesus said that there isn't
anything he can do, it's all up to his father."
"What does Jesus look like?"Shadow asked.
"He's a brown hedgehog with dark eyes and he wears a gray robe."Crystal replied.
The sun began to set.
"You're going to wake up soon, I'll be back tomorrow."Crystal said.
They kissed each other goodbye but they would see each other again.
March 27, 9:30 A. M
Shadow woke up slowly and then went to see if Maria was awake, she was just waking up.
"*chuckle* Hello, Maria."Shadow said.
"Mph"Maria replied.(Don't forget, she's just a baby.)
Shadow picked Maria up and kissed her on the cheek . In return, she giggled a little bit. They
went out to the living room and sat on the couch, Shadow set Maria down next to him. Shadow
was still tired so he rested his eyes for a while.
"Daddy!" a small voice said.
Shadow looked down at Maria.
"Did you say that?"
"Daddy!"Maria said with her arms up, showing that she wanted a hug.
Shadow picked up his daughter and hugged her happily, he'd never been so happy. From that
moment on, Shadow declared that he was the happiest he'd ever been.
