A/N: Yeah, the last chapter was kinda weird, I know… But I liked it, nonetheless… lol I hope you all liked that one. In saying that, here's the next chapter of Shadow's Sunshine. I hope you like it!
“Ah… Finally, my month is here!” I exclaimed upon waking up; I threw the curtains open on my window and immediately closed them again. “Damn sun…” I muttered.
It was eleven o'clock AM, and I had just woken up on my first day off from work for a whole month. It felt good to be able to sleep in.
I lazily made my way to the bathroom, where I proceeded to turn the shower on; I waited `til it was nice and hot, and then climbed in after I had shed my clothes on the floor of the bathroom.
When I got out thirty minutes later, I wrapped a towel around my body and walked to my dresser which was on the other side of my room. I opened the drawers, fishing around for some undergarments and the usual blue shorts with white hibiscus flowers and loose, white T-shirt. When I found all the things I needed, I went back to the bathroom, brushing my teeth as I got dressed.
Fully clothed and ready to face the world, I walked out of my small apartment, grabbing my jacket on the way out. This time equipped with money, I walked down the small strip of stores that were close to my apartment, looking for something that satisfied my fancy for lunch. I finally stopped at a tiny Chinese take-out restaurant that was always busy; I had heard about it from a friend.
After I got my lunch, I went to the park to sit down and eat it. I wolfed it down in ten minutes flat, totally hungry for the first time in my life. When I was finished, I put the empty boxes of sesame chicken in the trash can.
But I couldn't shake a feeling that someone was watching me the whole time I ate; I shook it off, thinking it was just my imagination, but when I was by the garbage can, it got more powerful. I turned to my left and right, looking for any signs of someone that looked suspicious, but to no avail. No one was in the park this day, quite odd for having such great weather.
I turned and ran into the familiar black pest that seemed to always be following me around. “Dammit! Why the hell do you keep following me?!” I bellowed, punching him the arm.
He didn't even flinch when I hit him, though I didn't expect him to. “I'm just making sure you keep your ass out of trouble. You seem to be a magnet for danger.” He retorted, eyes flashing again.
“I only almost got killed that ONE TIME! ONE TIME! And now, whenever I turn around, you're right there stalking me!” I shouted, scaring some birds out of a nearby tree.
“How dare you accuse me of stalking; it's a repulsive act,” he retorted, getting closer, narrowing his eyes. “I don't stalk.” He said through gritted teeth. He gave me one more glaring look in the eyes before turning and walking off.
“Pfft. Don't stalk my ass…” I mumbled, turning the opposite way and walking toward the daycare, thinking I'd pay Star a visit. I couldn't help but have the feeling that his eyes were following me the whole time.
Later…
When I got to the daycare and opened the door, Star looked up, surprised to see me at work. “I thought you were taking the month off?” she asked, setting the small bat she was tending to in its crib.
“I am, and it's going great so far. I just felt… Uncomfortable today… I was at the park eating my lunch, and I had the feeling that someone was watching me the whole time. Then, I ran into Shadow again for the third time! I swear, he's stalking me or something…” I told her.
“That's impossible… Shadow the Hedgehog doesn't stalk people…” she reassured me, but I couldn't help but still feel weird. “Now go home. You wanted the month off and I gave it to you. You don't just barge back into work whenever you feel like it.”
“You're right. Not like I would want to come to work after waking up at eleven this morning…” I said, trying to make her jealous.
It worked. “Leave, now, please.” She said bluntly.
“Okay, okay…” I left the daycare, walking to a quaint little coffee shop I knew across the street. No one hardly ever went in it, and it was a good place for me to think.
“Hey, Sun.” The friendly cat behind the counter that knew my face so well spoke up. “You want the usual today?”
She reached for the cups marked “Tall,” but I shook my head and said, “No, I think just a regular cappuccino will be fine today.” She shrugged and took a regular cup and filled it to the brim with the frothy beverage, topping it off with a lid. “Thanks,” I said, paying the small fee.
I sat in my usual place in the café, in the back corner near the window looking out to the street. And then I saw him; it was Shadow again, this time sitting on a bench across the street. He must've known I was looking, because he smiled evilly at me and gave a little wave of his hand. I shuddered and turned back to my coffee.
I sat staring at the table for what seemed like hours, not wanting to lift my head up to face him again. Why doesn't he just leave me the hell alone? I thought angrily. He obviously doesn't think I'm capable of looking out for myself. That damn hedgehog…
I felt a finger tap me on the shoulder and I turned around slowly, expecting to see him there. It was the cat behind the counter. “Sorry, Sun, but it's closing time.”
“Are you serious?!” I asked, jumping up. “What time is it?”
“It's almost six…” she said, looking at the clock on the wall.
“Ok, thanks for letting me stay… Sorry if I caused a disruption…” I said, walking towards the door.
“Are you crazy? It was fun having you stick around, even if you just sat there and stared at the table… You can tell a lot about a person and their thoughts by watching their face.” She said, winking.
“Yeah, thanks.” I walked out into the cold December night air, wrapping my jacket tighter around my body. Then I felt something heavy on my shoulders; it was another jacket. I turned around to see who had administered it and he was there once more.
“You looked cold.” He said at my threatening look. He looked at me with big, ruby red eyes, but this time they didn't flash that ruthless way they always seem to. They were soft and inviting.
“Thanks, but I don't need it,” I said, trying to push it off, but he held it in place on my shoulders.
“Yes you do. It's freezing and about ready to snow.” He replied, looking up to the sky.
“Why are you acting like this?” I asked, curious to know what his thoughts were.
“Who's acting?”
There was a flash of green and he was gone. That was the last I'd heard of him that night, and I walked off to my apartment, desperate to get into the heat…
A/N: I know he would probably never do that, but I had to put it in there. And, no, I don't believe that I'm gonna do the month day by day… Maybe every other day or something… I don't know yet… But I hope you all liked it! Review, please!
