Chapter Five
Rouge quietly closed the door behind her, immediately noting how quiet it was. Shadow must have left already. Silver was out with Blaze looking for an apartment together so he wouldn't be there either. Shadow and Silver had been sharing an apartment for the past year or so as it was convenient for two bachelors at the time. However, now that both had girlfriends things were beginning to change.
Shadow must still be out dragging that red creature off of his island. He's probably frenching his emerald goodbye, for all I know he's in a relationship with it…she grimaced at the thought.
She sauntered into the living room and laid down on the couch. It was so comfortable she felt herself begin to drift away, that is, until she heard footsteps coming down the stairs.
Thinking it was Shadow, Rouge smirked.
"Hey handsome, back so soon?" she said without opening her eyes.
The footsteps stopped.
Knuckles heart felt like it was going to beat out of his chest. That voice... it was her! What was she doing here at Shadow's place? Maybe they were together after all...the thought caused him to bare his teeth. He almost growled before regaining control over himself. Just because she was here didn't mean her and Shadow were dating...he could've just called her to watch him while he went out. But, she called him handsome...did she know it wasn't Shadow?
Rouge waited for a response. Finding it odd that Shadow didn't say anything, she cracked open one eye and looked towards the stairs. Suddenly both eyes shot wide open as she bolted upright into a sitting position on the couch.
He was standing there, arms crossed, observing her from the bottom of the stairs. She couldn't help but notice the blush spread across his cheeks as he looked at her. Her eyes slowly looked him up and down, noting that his dreadlocks were a bit damp. His body was even more muscled than before, causing Rouge's mouth to unconsciously drop open in awe.
Bad Rouge, bad!
Meanwhile, Knuckles was also frozen as his eyes drank in her appearance. Somehow she grew even more beautiful during the last three years, if that was even possible to begin with. Her white hair was a bit longer, but styled in the same way, her blue eyes still sparking with undisclosed mirth and attitude. He bashfully lowered his eyes to take a quick look at her body, clenching his jaw to keep from drooling. Her figure was phenomenal, she must have been working out a lot during the past three years as well as she was still curvy, but very toned. He blinked a few times to get his thoughts back in working order, noticing she was doing the same thing.
Rouge tried to mentally slap herself back into reality, hoping she didn't look too stupid. When she looked up however, his eyes were now averted to the ground, avoiding contact with the bat.
Rouge couldn't help but notice the blush spread across his cheeks as he looked to the ground. Okay, well, maybe she didn't have to wear such a tight shirt, but then again she thought it would be Shadow she would encounter, not the red echidna. Though she didn't mind if he took a peak…
Ugh, do I need to physically slap myself this time? He's gonna think I've gone nuts!
Rouge was the first to find her voice, "I guess Shadow managed to capture you after all," she smirked.
Knuckles raised his head but still did not look at her or say anything.
So she did think I was Shadow...she looked really surprised to see me.
He raised his head and looked to the left, trying hard to focus on anything but her.
Rouge cleared her throat and started again, "Um...how have you been?" not knowing what else to say.
He ignored her.
She tried to talk once more, "Hello! Knucklehead, anyone in there?" This time he locked his gaze on hers.
She gasped from seeing his eyes. They looked so lifeless. The vibrant violet she vividly remembered was now dull in color, no sparkle-no fire.
"Hi Rouge," he rasped out as he brushed past her to sit on the recliner. He folded his arms and tilted his head down. She watched as his dreads fell forward, covering his face. Her hand itched to brush them back so his face wasn't hidden from her.
She stared at him for a few moments before standing up and approaching him slowly. An evil grin began to spread across her lips as the old desire of messing with his head began to reignite in her system. Soon she stood in front of him.
"Hey there yourself sugar. It's been awhile. MY jewel that you keep captive on your island must have been well protected all this time, eh?"
Knuckles hmphed and peered up at her through his dreads, his eyes regaining some of their lost fire. "Yours? Just a jewel?" He raised his head and turned his nose up at her, "That's MY master emerald."
Rouge crossed her arms and peered down at him through half-lidded eyes, "Keep telling yourself that good-lookin', someday you'll realize the truth."
She saw his fists clench, though she spotted a blush begin to spread across his cheeks. He leaned forward a bit. "Oh yea, and that is?"
Rouge tried her best to put on an innocent face as she tapped her finger to her chin, "Oh, just that, that emerald," she leaned forward so her face was directly in front of his, "...is mine."
A strange heavy feeling began to build in the air with each agonizingly slow passing second. Knuckles got the feeling they weren't arguing about the emerald anymore as they glared into each other's eyes. She knew then that he was still as easily swayed as ever by a challenge, always wanting to prove he was the strongest and toughest. She wondered who would break eye contact first. What really caught her eyes however was that the fire was back in his.
He leaned back suddenly, startling her as he began to chuckle. "Keep telling yourself that batgirl."
She pouted, "I envy that emerald..." her voice got really quiet as she averted her eyes to the floor, no longer able to look at him as her mood went from playful to emotional.
Knuckles definitely knew now she wasn't talking about the emerald anymore. He braced his hands on the arms of the chair and slowly stood up so he was standing directly in front of the white bat.
"...Rouge," he began but was unable to finish his sentence, as suddenly soft lips were on his own. Before he could even react, he was pushed back into the recliner with the bat straddling his lap.
"Would you just shut up for once?" she breathed out, putting her hands on either side of his head, trapping him in. Resting her forehead against his, she closed her eyes. "Let me do this, maybe it's the only way I can finally let you go," her voice turning into a whisper.
He hesitated for a moment, before closing his eyes and bringing his own lips up to hers. The feeling was incredible; it felt like he was slowly coming back to life through her, every touch was igniting a fire in his veins. He groaned. Wanting more, he wrapped his arms around her, bringing her flush against him, enjoying the feel of her soft curves pressed heavily against his hard muscles. At first, he kissed her gently, savoring the taste and feel of her. Then with out warning he began to kiss her with an uncontrollable need. He kissed her lips, her neck, the place where her neck met her shoulder, anywhere he could...he heard her gasp as he lightly bit her ear lobe.
Rouge shivered with desire at his touch. Tilting her head up, she leaned in close so that her lips were near his ear and spoke, "couch."
Without missing a beat Knuckles abruptly stood up, carrying Rouge with him, quickly laying her down on the couch. He quickly crawled on top of her, bracing his upper body weight with his hands so as not to crush her.
He smirked as he peered down into her half-lidded eyes. "Hi," his voice was darker, laced with lust and desire.
"Hi," she smiled before reaching up, lacing her hands through his dreads and pulling his head down to hers, crashing her lips against his. She bit his bottom lip with her fangs making him immediately open his mouth to protest. She quickly cut him off however by covering his mouth with hers once again, this time with tongue. Their french-kissing was a lot like their fighting, each one trying to win dominance over the other.
Knuckles threw his gloves across the room, wanting to touch her skin to skin. He then reached his hand up and under her shirt, careful not to shred her clothing with the large spikes on his knuckles, a feat that was very difficult to achieve. He moved his hands slowly up and down, feeling the smooth contours of her curvy body as he felt himself growing hard. Rouge placed her heels into his lower back and pulled him in closer, his hardness pressed against her core, the only thing separating them from becoming one was her signature leather pants and a flimsy thong. He grinded himself against her, watching as her mouth fell open with every stroke. Somehow the friction of her clothing made every move of his hips against hers super sensitive for her. He smirked before leaning down and claiming her mouth in another steamy kiss.
Through the lusty haze, somehow Knuckles ears faintly picked up the noise of someone turning a key in the front door.
His eyes widened and without thinking he rolled of Rouge, landing face first onto the floor.
"Knuckles, what are you doing!" she shrieked, quickly sitting up.
"I'm trying to kiss the floor what does it look like!" he bellowed back, now sitting and rubbing the aching spot on his head gently.
Rouge laughed until she realized they were about to have company. Also, the full weight sank in of what they were about to do, in Shadow's apartment…on his couch...she just cheated on him…she hated people who cheated and suddenly felt like a giant hypocrite. But she honestly couldn't control herself, she was acting on pure emotions when once again faced with the object of her every desire.
The front door opened and Silver walked in, oblivious to the fact that Knuckles was sitting on the floor trying to catch his breath and calm his heart down while Rouge was on the couch, fuming at Silver's intrusion as well as at herself, she too trying to catch her breath.
Silver hung his keys up and walked into the room, noticing for the first time that he had company.
"Oh, hey guys…" His eyes darted over to the red figure on the floor and widened in surprise, "Knuckles, wow, long time no see, how's it going?"
Knuckles grunted while looking away, focusing on a long loose thread on the carpet. He focused on trying to pull it out.
"Okay…" he turned to Rouge, "I'm glad you're here, saves me the trouble of trying to track you down. I just got off the phone with Blaze, she said that all the girls are at Amy's and want you to come over, something about bonding girl stuff I guess."
Rouge hoped her cheeks weren't blazing red anymore, "Alright, I'll go right over," awkwardly she addressed Knuckles, "Um, hey, nice seeing you…catch ya later," and with that Rouge flew out the front door.
Silver watched her fly out, slamming the front door behind her before turning to Knuckles, "you two haven't changed much."
"What do you mean?"
Silver was taken back with the gruffness in Knuckles voice. "Um, still fighting and being all weird around each other, why is that?" he asked as he walked into the kitchen, grabbing a bottle of water out of the fridge, "you want anything?" he called over his shoulder.
"No."
Silver just shrugged as he closed the fridge and sat down in the recliner, unaware what just took place on that particular piece of furniture.
Knuckles was fuming inside. All this time and she still felt the same for him as he did for her. Maybe he really was a giant fool to not even given them a chance. He absent-mindedly touched his lips; they still tingled from her touch.
"…It's a good thing she finally gave Shadow a chance, the dudes finally happy for once."
Knuckles chose that moment to tune back into Silver's rambling. His heart began racing, but for a different reason this time.
"What do you mean?"
Silver sat up straight, "Um, her and Shadow have been together for the past five months, she's made a really positive impact on him. He's becoming less and less emo everyday…"
Knuckles closed his eyes and slowly exhaled, hoping Silver wasn't picking up on his suddenly morose mood.
How could she kiss me like that when she's in a relationship?
Silver, ever so oblivious, continued rambling, "I honestly think he's gonna ask her soon man."
Knuckles sharply looked at Silver. "Ask her what?"
Suddenly noticing that all the fury of hell seemed to be coming from Knuckles blazing violet eyes, Silver shut his mouth, unsure what was wrong, but somehow feeling as though he was contributing a great deal to the moody echidna's death stare.
"Um, to marry him?" Silver gulped as the fire turned up a notch in the red demons eyes. He clenched his fists ready to defend himself at any moment when suddenly the fire went out as Knuckles lowered his head.
What did I expect? I told her to move on…. but then what was all that about? I was wrong to not have even given us a chance…
Knuckles sharply looked at Silver, "You in the mood to spar? It's been awhile since I've actually had an opponent."
Silver gulped, "Not really…do you want me to call Sonic?"
An evil grin broke out on Knuckles face. "Now there's an idea!"
